Publer vs Buffer: The Short Answer
Publer is the better pick if you want the lowest price per account and power tools for scheduling: bulk uploads of up to 500 posts, RSS automations, recycling, Telegram and WordPress. Its Professional plan starts at $5 a month for one account and its Business plan at $10, per Publer's plans and pricing article. Buffer is the better pick if you want analytics, an AI assistant, a comment inbox and an API without paying for a top plan, since Buffer's pricing page puts all four on its free plan and charges $6 per channel a month for Essentials. Both pages were read on October 19, 2026.
The gap in price depends on which features you count. For scheduling alone, Publer Professional is cheaper at every size up to 54 accounts: 6 accounts cost $24 a month against $36 on Buffer Essentials. Once you need analytics, the order flips, because Publer keeps them on Business at $7 an account while Buffer includes them on Essentials at $6, so 6 accounts cost $42 on Publer and $36 on Buffer. For a team that needs approvals the two land within a few dollars of each other around 30 accounts. The worked sums are below.
The free plans split on two points. Publer Free covers 3 accounts but cannot connect X, keeps published posts for 24 hours and leaves out analytics and AI unless you bring your own OpenAI key. Buffer Free covers 3 channels with X allowed, 30 days of analytics, an unlimited AI assistant and API access. Both cap you at 10 scheduled posts per account at a time.
A word on who is writing. We make Spreadcast, which designs and publishes social posts for apps on the App Store. Neither Publer nor Buffer works with us, both names are trademarks of their owners, and this page compares the two with each other using their own pages. Spreadcast gets one section near the end, for readers who have an app.
Key Takeaways
Publer Costs Less per Account
From the third account Publer Professional adds $4 a month per account and Business $7, and every 10th account is free, per Publer's pricing article. Buffer Essentials is $6 per channel and Team $12 for the first 10 channels, then $4.
Buffer Puts More on the Free Plan
Buffer Free includes X, an unlimited AI assistant, 30 days of analytics, a comment inbox and an API, per Buffer's pricing file. Publer Free excludes X and keeps analytics and AI for Business.
Analytics Change the Math
The cheapest plan with analytics is Buffer Essentials at $6 a channel. Publer's analytics start on Business at $7 an account, so Buffer wins this comparison at every account count.
Publer Has More Automation
Bulk uploads of 500 posts, unlimited RSS automations on Professional, and recycling, recurring posts and Spintax on Business. Buffer's recurring posts are still in Beta.
Buffer Opens Its API to Everyone
Buffer's API and MCP server work on every plan, Free included. Publer's API and MCP server are for Business customers in good standing and Enterprise, per Publer's Business plan article.
Neither Makes the Post for You
Both publish posts you bring. For an app on the App Store, Spreadcast designs the post from your listing and publishes it for you.

Is Publer Free and Is Buffer Free? The Limits That Push You to Pay
Yes, both are free for 3 accounts with no time limit, and for many solo creators that is enough. The reasons to pay are different on each side. On Publer the most common one is X: Publer's free plan article says X accounts can only be added after an upgrade, and Publer's list of supported networks puts that down to the cost of X's enterprise API. The second is history: on Publer Free a published post leaves Publer after 24 hours, so there is nothing to look back on. The third is volume, since a CSV on Free stops at 5 posts.
On Buffer the free plan is wider, and the push to pay comes from the queue and from team features. Ten scheduled posts per channel is about two weeks of daily posting, and analytics on Free show 30 days. Approvals, extra users, first comment scheduling, channel groups and reports all wait for a paid plan, per Buffer's machine readable pricing file.
One rule is the same on both sides and catches people out. When you upgrade, the 3 free accounts stop being free. Buffer's article on paying for channels after an upgrade says you pay for every connected channel, the first 3 included, and Publer's article on locked accounts says the free allowance no longer applies on a paid plan, so accounts beyond the slots you buy are locked until you add slots.
Publer vs Buffer Pricing: Every Plan, Monthly and Yearly
Publer has four plans and Buffer has three. Both paid lineups are priced by the account, so the starting prices below are for one account, and the next section shows how each bill grows.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | Users | Accounts | What the plan adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publer Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 3, no X | 10 scheduled posts per account, 25 drafts, 24 hour history, Linkie, Canva, photo editor, AutoSchedule, link shortening with UTM tags |
| Publer Professional | $5 for 1 account, $9 for 2, then $4 per account with every 10th free | 20% less: $4 a month for 1 account | Owner, plus members at $2 each | As many as you pay for | X, unlimited scheduling and drafts, unlimited workspaces, bulk scheduling of 500 posts, unlimited RSS automations, follow up comments and threads, permanent history |
| Publer Business | $10 for 1 account, $17 for 2, then $7 per account with every 10th free | 20% less: $8 a month for 1 account | Owner, plus members at $3 each | As many as you pay for | Unlimited AI Assist, analytics and downloadable reports, best times to post, competitor analysis, hashtag analytics, recycling, recurring posts, Spintax, roles and approvals, API and MCP for eligible customers |
| Publer Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom quote | Custom | Custom, with higher volume discounts | 1:1 onboarding, prioritized support, no daily post limits from Publer's side, white label reports, payment by purchase order or wire transfer |
| Buffer Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | Up to 3 | 10 scheduled posts per channel, 100 ideas, AI Assistant, 30 days of Insights, comment inbox, API with 3,000 requests per 30 days |
| Buffer Essentials | $6 per channel for 1 to 10, $4 for 11 to 25, $3 for 26 to 50, $1 after that | $5 per channel a month for the first 10 | 1 | As many as you pay for | Unlimited scheduling up to a fair use cap of 5,000 per channel, full analytics history, reports, custom UTM settings, first comment, hashtag manager, channel groups |
| Buffer Team | $12 per channel for 1 to 10, $4 for 11 to 25, $3 for 26 to 50, $2 after that | $10 per channel a month for the first 10 | Unlimited | As many as you pay for | Everything in Essentials plus approval workflows, access levels per channel, branded reports and 15,000 API requests per 30 days |
Publer plan contents come from Publer's Professional plan article, Publer's Business plan article and Publer's Enterprise plan article. Buffer's from Buffer's machine readable pricing file, which says its prices were last updated in November 2025. Read on October 19, 2026.
Per Account vs Per Channel: Where Publer's Rate Comes From and How Each Bill Grows
Publer prints only its starting prices. Publer's plans and pricing article, updated on September 15, 2026, says Professional starts at $5 a month and Business at $10 for one social account, one user and no extra members, that every 10th social account or extra member is free, and that yearly billing takes 20% off. For any other total it sends you to the price selector on its plans page. We read that selector on October 19, 2026. It charges $5 for one account and $9 for two on Professional, and $10 and $17 on Business. From the third account it is a flat $4 per account on Professional and $7 on Business, so 3 accounts cost $12 or $21, 9 accounts cost $36 or $63, and 10 accounts cost the same as 9 because the 10th is free. Extra team members cost $2 each on Professional and $3 on Business. The plans page redirects in a loop for automated link checkers, which is why the help center article is our cited source for these rules.
Publer counts each profile, Page, group or channel as one account, so 5 Facebook Pages, 2 LinkedIn Pages and 3 Instagram accounts make 10. The number of accounts is separate from the number of workspaces, which are unlimited on paid plans.
Buffer publishes every rate. Buffer's machine readable pricing file lists channels 1 to 10 at $6 on Essentials and $12 on Team, channels 11 to 25 at $4 on both, channels 26 to 50 at $3 on both, and channels from the 51st at $1 on Essentials and $2 on Team. The file says yearly billing saves about 2 months, which is how $6 becomes $5 and $12 becomes $10. Users cost nothing extra on Team. Buffer takes cards only, with no PayPal or bank transfer.
So the two models reward different shapes. Publer is cheaper per account at almost any size, and it charges for people. Buffer is dearer for the first 10 channels, gets cheaper in steps after that, and charges nothing for people on Team. A solo user with many accounts and a large team with few accounts end up on different sides, as the setups below show.
What Publer and Buffer Cost for Four Real Setups
Each cell shows the sum, in US dollars before tax. Publer totals use the selector rates described above, and Buffer totals use the tiers in its pricing file. Yearly figures are the price per month when you pay for 12 months at once.
| Setup | Publer | Buffer | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| A creator with 3 accounts: Instagram, TikTok and X | Free cannot connect X, so Professional: 3 × $4 = $12 a month, or $9.60 billed yearly ($115.20 a year) | Free: $0, X allowed, 10 scheduled posts per channel. Essentials for unlimited posts: 3 × $6 = $18, or 3 × $5 = $15 billed yearly ($180 a year) | Buffer Free is $12 a month less. With unlimited scheduling on both, Publer is $6 a month less ($18 minus $12) |
| A small business with 6 accounts that wants analytics | Business: 6 × $7 = $42 a month, or $33.60 billed yearly ($403.20 a year). Professional at 6 × $4 = $24 has no analytics | Essentials: 6 × $6 = $36 a month, or 6 × $5 = $30 billed yearly ($360 a year), with analytics and reports | Buffer is $6 a month less ($42 minus $36), or $43.20 a year less on yearly billing. Publer's $42 also includes AI Assist, recycling and competitor analysis |
| A freelancer working alone on 15 client accounts | Professional: 15 accounts with 1 free, so 14 × $4 = $56 a month, or $44.80 billed yearly ($537.60 a year) | Essentials: 10 × $6 + 5 × $4 = $60 + $20 = $80 a month, or $800 a year billed yearly | Publer is $24 a month less ($80 minus $56). If analytics matter, Publer Business at 14 × $7 = $98 costs $18 more than Buffer |
| An agency team of 4 people with 30 accounts and approvals | Business: 30 accounts with 3 free, so 27 × $7 = $189, plus 3 extra members × $3 = $9: $198 a month, or $158.40 billed yearly ($1,900.80 a year) | Team: 10 × $12 + 15 × $4 + 5 × $3 = $120 + $60 + $15 = $195 a month, or $162.50 billed yearly ($1,950 a year), any number of users | Buffer is $3 a month less on monthly billing. Publer is $49.20 a year less on yearly billing ($1,950 minus $1,900.80) |
Rates from Publer's plans and pricing article and its price selector, and from Buffer's pricing page, read on October 19, 2026. Publer's yearly discount is 20% and Buffer's works out to about 17%, which is why yearly billing moves the last row in Publer's favor.
Where Publer Is Cheaper, Where Buffer Is Cheaper and Where the Lines Cross
For scheduling alone, Publer Professional is the cheaper bill from 1 account to 54. One account costs $5 against $6, 10 accounts cost $36 against $60, and 50 accounts cost $180 against $195. The two meet at 55 accounts, where both come to $200 a month on monthly billing, and from 56 accounts Buffer Essentials is cheaper, because its rate drops to $1 per channel after the 50th. Very few one person accounts are that large, so in practice Publer wins this comparison.
For the cheapest plan with analytics, Buffer wins at every size. Buffer Essentials includes analytics at $6 a channel, and Publer's analytics start on Business at $7 an account. One account costs $6 against $10, 10 accounts cost $60 against $63, and 20 accounts cost $100 against $126. Buffer's step down to $4 after the 10th channel widens the gap from there.
For the plans with approvals, the answer turns on headcount. With only the owner, Publer Business is cheaper up to 31 accounts ($196 against $198 on Buffer Team) and Buffer Team is cheaper from 32 ($201 against $203). Each extra Publer member adds $3 a month, and Buffer Team adds nothing per user, so the crossing moves down as the team grows: with three extra members Buffer Team is already cheaper at 28 accounts ($189 against $191).
Read those crossings with the features in mind. Publer Business at $7 an account also buys unlimited AI, recycling, recurring posts, best times to post and competitor analysis, which Buffer does not sell. Buffer Essentials at $6 a channel also buys a comment inbox, an API and an MCP connection that Publer keeps for Business. The cheaper bill is only the better deal if you would use what it includes.

Composer Features: Bulk CSV, Recycling, Recurring Posts, Link in Bio and First Comments
This is where Publer is strongest. Both tools schedule the posts you bring, but Publer has more ways to fill and repeat a queue without touching each post.
| Feature | Publer | Buffer |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk scheduling | Up to 500 posts at once, in six ways: blank posts, bulk media upload, CSV, the Media Library, RSS and news articles. Recycling can be set in bulk, per Publer's bulk scheduling guide | CSV upload from each channel's settings: 100 posts per channel per file on paid plans, 10 on Free. Text and single image posts only, and not for YouTube, per Buffer's bulk upload guide |
| Recycling evergreen posts | Business plan. Posts recycle into your posting schedule weekly, monthly or yearly and can be paused. Not for YouTube, TikTok or WordPress, and X, Pinterest and Google Business need 10 or more Spintax variations, per Publer's recycling and recurring guide | Not offered. A sent post can be duplicated back into the queue by hand |
| Recurring posts | Business plan. Daily, weekly, monthly or yearly at a fixed time, with a start and end date. Repeating more often than weekly needs 10 other posts in between | In Beta: choose Make Recurring on a queued post and set the repeat count and cadence, per Buffer's recurring posts article. Buffer blocks the same post twice within 24 hours |
| RSS | Unlimited RSS automations from Professional, set to auto schedule or auto post new articles | Content feeds to browse and pick items, 3 feeds on Free and 50 on paid plans, per Buffer's content feeds guide. Automatic posting from RSS goes through Zapier, per Buffer's RSS automation article |
| First comment | Follow up comments from Professional, with text, links, hashtags or media, triggered by time, reach or engagement. Not for Pinterest, TikTok, Facebook personal profiles or Google Business, and they post as threads on X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads, per Publer's follow up comments guide | First comment on Instagram and LinkedIn posts from Essentials. Not available on Instagram notification posts |
| Threads | Threads for X, Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky from Professional | 1 threaded post on Free, unlimited on paid plans |
| Link in bio | Linkie, Publer's sister product, on every plan. Posts can be added to the Linkie page automatically, and Linkie insights inside Publer need a Linkie Plus plan, per Publer's Linkie article | Start Page, a microsite built from blocks. It counts as a channel, so on paid plans it adds a channel fee, and it is edited on desktop only, per Buffer's Start Page guide |
| Media editing | A photo editor on Free, and a video editor that crops, resizes, splits clips and adds text, filters and stickers, per Publer's video editor guide | An image editor that crops, rotates and adds alt text, added on September 15, 2026, per Buffer's changelog |
| Canva | Canva button on Free, and saving Canva designs straight into Publer from Professional | Canva on every plan |
Plan details from Publer's Professional plan article, Publer's Business plan article and Buffer's machine readable pricing file, read on October 19, 2026. Publer is stronger on volume and repetition. Buffer is stronger on what the free plan allows.
AI in Publer and Buffer: AI Assist vs AI Assistant
Buffer's AI Assistant is on every plan, Free included, with no usage limit, per Buffer's pricing page. It drafts, rephrases, shortens and expands text in the composer, adapts a post to each network's character limit, and generates post ideas from a description of your business and audience, per Buffer's AI Assistant guide. Alt text generation for images arrived on June 17, 2026, per Buffer's changelog. Its comment inbox suggests replies too, 5 a week on Free and without a cap on paid plans.
Publer's AI Assist does more, but costs more to reach. It is unlimited on Business and opens as a chat beside the composer for posts, comments, threads, alt text, signatures and whole WordPress articles, per Publer's AI Assist article. It also generates images, up to 10 variations per prompt, per Publer's AI image guide, and it can write in a brand voice built from your instructions, up to 5 uploaded files and your past posts, per Publer's brand voice guide. On Free and Professional you can still use it by connecting your own OpenAI account, and OpenAI bills you for each prompt.
So for text help at no cost, Buffer is stronger. For images, brand voices and an MCP connection that can read your analytics, Publer Business is stronger. Neither tool makes the finished post for you: both work from your prompt and leave the design and the decision to you.
Publer vs Buffer Analytics and Reports
Buffer gives every plan analytics. Its rebuilt Insights, launched on April 14, 2026, shows follower growth, engagement, impressions and results per post across all channels or one at a time, with AI Takeaways that suggest what to post next. Free keeps 30 days and offers last 7 days, last 30 days and month to date. Paid plans keep the full history and add custom date ranges, reports and exports as CSV, Markdown or PDF, and Team adds branded reports, per Buffer's Insights guide. Google Business Profiles, Facebook groups, Instagram personal profiles and Start Page are left out.
Publer keeps analytics for Business, and gives that plan more depth. Publer's analytics overview says it pulls data from each network twice a day, covers posts published outside Publer once they are synced, filters results by team member, suggests best times to post from last week's results and tracks hashtags. Reports export as PDF or Excel and CSV, and PDF reports can be emailed on a schedule, per Publer's reports guide. Competitor analysis compares up to 10 competitor pages per account on Facebook, Instagram and X, per Publer's competitor analysis guide. Enterprise adds white label reports.
Buffer is stronger if you want your own numbers on a small budget, since analytics start at $0 and full history at $6 a channel. Publer is stronger if you report to clients or watch competitors, since competitor analysis, best times and hashtag analytics have no Buffer equivalent, but you pay $7 an account for them.

Inbox and Comments: What Each Tool Lets You Answer
Buffer has a dedicated inbox called Community, on every plan. Buffer's Community guide lists comments from Facebook Pages, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn profiles and pages, X, Instagram professional accounts, Google Business Profiles, TikTok, YouTube and Mastodon, ten networks in one list sorted with unanswered comments first. It pulls in the last 30 days of comments when you connect a channel. Saved replies, comment likes and LinkedIn reactions work from there, and a Mentions tab for X is in Beta. Access to Community is set per person and per channel, separately from publishing.
Publer handles comments post by post. Publer's comment management guide says you open a published post from the calendar to view, add, delete or reply to its comments, on Facebook Pages, Instagram, X, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and YouTube, and that only Admins can manage comments. AI Assist can suggest a reply, per Publer's guide to replying with AI. There is no single list of all new comments, and in Publer's 2025 review its founder described a unified inbox as an upcoming separate product called Kibo.
Neither tool lists private messages. If your customers write to you in DMs, both leave that to each network's own app, and if they comment, Buffer's inbox is the faster place to work.
Video: Buffer's Community Inbox for Comments
Comments are the clearest gap between the two: one inbox on every Buffer plan against replies post by post in Publer.
Teams, Approvals, API, MCP, Mobile Apps and Browser Extensions
Six topics that matter once more than one person or more than one tool is involved. Each card ends with which of the two is stronger.
Users and Workspaces
Publer includes the owner and charges $2 or $3 a month for each extra member, with every 10th member free, and every paid plan has unlimited workspaces for separate brands or clients. Buffer Free and Essentials have one user, and Team has unlimited users at no extra charge. Buffer users who join your organization keep their own login, per Buffer's guide to adding users. Buffer is stronger for large teams, Publer for one person with many brands.
Approvals and Client Roles
Publer Business has Editors, Admins, Owners and Clients. A Client can be read only, post, or add their own accounts, and can be asked to approve posts, so a post can need an Admin, a Client or both, per Publer's guide to roles and Publer's guide to approving posts. On Buffer Team, a member with Needs Approval access sends drafts to an Approvals tab and an owner or Full Access user schedules them, per Buffer's approvals guide. Publer is stronger for client sign off.
API Access
Publer's API article says there is no public API for everyone. Business customers with no failed or locked subscription and Enterprise customers can create keys, with scopes for posts, media and analytics, per Publer's guide to API keys. Buffer's API guide opens the API on every plan, with 3,000 requests per 30 days on Free, and notes that it does not yet return full analytics or handle comments. Buffer is stronger for access, Publer for analytics data.
MCP Servers for Claude and ChatGPT
Publer's MCP server at mcp.publer.com works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Grok on Business and Enterprise, per Publer's MCP setup guide, and Publer's MCP announcement says an assistant can read your calendar, analytics and competitor data. Buffer's MCP page says MCP is on every plan, Free included, with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Perplexity, Notion and others. Buffer is stronger on price, Publer on depth.
Zapier, Make and n8n
Publer's Zapier integration is on every plan and has triggers for drafts, approvals, failed posts and performance thresholds, per Publer's Zapier guide. Buffer connects to Zapier, Make, IFTTT, n8n and Raycast, per Buffer's guide to automation tools and AI assistants. Buffer covers more automation tools, and Publer's Zapier triggers go deeper.
Mobile Apps and Browser Extensions
Both have iOS and Android apps. Publer's mobile app guide lists scheduling, drafts, AI text and images, members and the media library, and Publer has extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, per Publer's Chrome extension guide. Buffer's app needs iOS 17 or Android 7.1, per Buffer's mobile app guide, and its extension runs in Chrome, Safari, Opera and Edge, per Buffer's extension guide. This one is a draw.
Video: Publer's MCP Server With Claude
Publer's MCP server is a Business feature, and this recent video from Publer shows what that plan's AI connection can read.
What Publer and Buffer Do Not Do
Publer does not offer a single inbox for comments or any place for private messages, and it does not list Substack. Its free plan has no X, no analytics and a 24 hour history. Analytics, AI, recycling, approvals, the API and the MCP server all sit on Business. A downgrade costs data: Publer's guide to changing plans warns that moving from a paid plan to Free deletes all scheduled posts and moving from Business to Professional removes recycling and recurring posts. Mobile subscriptions bought through Apple or Google are fixed monthly plans that cannot be customized. Publer also applies its own daily post limits per account, which Enterprise removes, per Publer's comparison of its paid plans.
Buffer's pricing file lists no recycling, competitor analysis or best time to post suggestions, and Buffer has no Telegram or WordPress channel and no place for private messages. Its bulk upload skips video and carousels, Facebook groups and personal Instagram accounts publish by phone notification only, and recurring posts are still in Beta. Approvals need the Team plan at twice the Essentials rate for the first 10 channels, and Buffer accepts cards only, with no PayPal.
One more caution: Publer's own comparison is out of date. Publer's Buffer vs Publer post, dated January 12, 2026, says Buffer does not support YouTube and has an Agency plan with 10 networks for $120, and it lists Publer Professional from $12 for 3 networks. Today Buffer publishes YouTube Shorts, its plans are Free, Essentials and Team, and Publer's own pricing article starts Professional at $5 for one account. We found no Buffer page comparing itself with Publer. Check the plans pages, not a rival's summary.
What Changed at Publer and Buffer in the Last Year
Publer added features at a steady pace and changed how its prices are shown. Publer's 2025 review lists folders in the Media Library and threads that go to X, Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky at once at the end of 2025. In 2026 Publer launched Ideas, a Kanban style board for drafts, on March 18, per Publer's Ideas announcement, then Instagram Trial Reels and a Zapier integration, as Publer's product updates page lists, automatic posts to Linkie on June 17, per Publer's Linkie announcement, hashtag groups and reusable text in August, and its MCP server on September 28. Its pricing article, updated on September 15, now starts Professional at $5 and Business at $10 for one account.
Buffer's last price change was in November 2025, per Buffer's pricing file. Since then Buffer's changelog records more than 100 composer templates on March 19, 2026, four more networks in the Community inbox on April 7, the rebuilt Insights on April 14, MCP connections to Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity on June 10, AI alt text on June 17, a new Home page on June 24, X mentions in Community on July 13, custom post templates and new team permissions in July, a new image editor on September 15, Substack Notes as a channel on September 23, posts that mix images and video on September 28, and music and collaborators for Instagram posts on October 7.
The direction is clear on both sides. Publer is adding automation and AI to its Business plan, and Buffer is adding networks, analytics and AI connections to every plan at the same price.

Publer facts are from Publer's 2025 review, written by its founder, and Publer's plans and pricing article. Buffer facts are from Buffer's about page and Buffer's open dashboard. The user figures are not comparable: Publer counts registered users and Buffer counts people active in a month.
Choose Publer If
Publer fits when you want the most scheduling power per dollar and you either work alone or with clients who sign off on posts.
You Manage Many Accounts on Your Own
At $4 an account with every 10th free, 15 accounts cost $56 a month on Professional against $80 on Buffer Essentials. Unlimited workspaces keep each client separate at no extra cost.
You Run Your Queue in Bulk
CSV files of up to 500 posts, bulk media uploads and RSS automations are on Professional. Buffer takes 100 posts per channel per file and leaves out video and carousels.
You Repeat Evergreen Content
Recycling into a posting schedule, recurring posts on a fixed date and Spintax variations are all on Business. Buffer has only a Beta for recurring posts.
Your Clients Approve Their Own Posts
Client roles can be read only, approve posts or add their own accounts, and a post can need both an Admin and a Client before it goes out.
You Post to Telegram, WordPress or Facebook Profiles
All three are on Publer's list of supported accounts and none is a Buffer channel.
Choose Buffer If
Buffer fits when you want analytics, AI and an inbox without paying for a top plan, or when a team larger than the account list shares the work.
You Want a Free Plan With X
Three channels, X included, with analytics, the AI Assistant, the comment inbox and the API at $0. Publer's free plan has none of the four, and X needs Professional.
You Need Analytics on a Small Budget
Full analytics history, reports and exports come with Essentials at $6 a channel. On Publer the same need means Business at $7 an account.
You Answer Comments Every Day
Community gathers comments from 10 networks in one list with saved replies and AI suggestions on every plan. Publer has you open each post to reply.
Your Whole Team Posts
Buffer Team has unlimited users. Ten channels and the whole company cost $120 a month with approvals, and nobody is billed as a member.
You Build With AI Tools or Code
Buffer's API and MCP server are on every plan, with ready setups for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Notion, Perplexity and n8n. Publer opens both only on Business.
A Third Option for App Makers: Spreadcast
Publer and Buffer have one thing in common that none of the tables above shows: both start with an empty composer. You decide what to post, design the image, write a caption for each network and then schedule it. Their AI helps with the words once you have an idea. For someone who builds an app, that first step is usually why the feed goes quiet.
Spreadcast does that step. You paste your App Store link once at the Spreadcast start page. Spreadcast checks the listing every day. When a new version goes live, it becomes an update post: your own screenshot in an iPhone frame, a headline and two or three points from the release notes, written in the language of the release notes. When the app reaches a rating milestone, it becomes a thank you post. Every post is designed in your icon, screenshots and colors, with the logo and fonts from your website, and a caption is written for each network. Each post takes the next free slot on the calendar, and by default it waits for one tap of approval. On paid plans you can switch to full autopilot, which schedules posts for nine in the morning in your time zone.
Beyond the automatic posts, you can make review quote posts from a real 5 star review, carousels of 3 to 8 slides, and text or picture posts on demand in Create or from an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT. Spreadcast publishes to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky and Telegram. Analytics show interactions, new followers, taps on your App Store link and the best day and time to post.
Compare what the money buys. Those 8 networks cost $32 a month on Publer Professional (8 × $4) or $56 on Publer Business (8 × $7), and Buffer Essentials covers 7 of them for $42 (7 × $6), because Buffer has no Telegram. Each of those prices buys a queue for posts you still make. Free drafts your posts; Pro is $29 a month and includes design, captions and publishing to every network, for 1 app and up to 10 social accounts. Studio is $79 a month for 5 apps, each with its own brand and accounts, 50 social accounts and 3 seats. Plans are on Spreadcast pricing, with a full refund within 7 days.
Spreadcast works only for apps on the Apple App Store, and it does not post to X, Google Business or WordPress. It has no comment inbox, RSS automation, bulk CSV upload or recycling. If you need any of those, keep Publer or Buffer for that work and let Spreadcast run the posts about your app: new versions, rating milestones and the posts you make on demand.
Publer vs Buffer vs Later vs Meta Business Suite
People who compare Publer and Buffer often weigh Later and Meta Business Suite in the same search. Spreadcast, which we make, is in the first row because it is the only one here that makes the posts. Prices are from each vendor's own page, read on October 19, 2026.
| Tool | Starts at | Free plan | Networks | Look at it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spreadcast | Free drafts your posts; Pro is $29 a month and includes design, captions and publishing to every network | Yes: 1 app, 3 designed posts to download | Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video posts | You have an app on the App Store and want the posts designed and published for you |
| Publer | $5 a month for 1 account, then $4 per account on Professional | Yes: 3 accounts without X | 13, Telegram and WordPress included | You want the lowest price per account, bulk tools, RSS and recycling |
| Buffer | $6 per channel a month on Essentials | Yes: 3 channels with X, analytics and AI | 12 plus Start Page, Substack included | You want analytics, AI, an inbox and an API from the free plan up |
| Later | $18.75 a month billed yearly, about $25 billed monthly, per Later's pricing page | No, a 14 day trial | Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat | You plan an Instagram and TikTok feed by eye and one profile per network is enough |
| Meta Business Suite | Free, per Meta's help page on Business Suite | The whole product is free | Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp | Facebook and Instagram are your whole plan and you want their messages in one inbox |

Publer vs Later and Publer vs Meta Business Suite: Short Answers
Publer vs Later is a choice between price per account and price per set. Later's pricing page sells Starter at $18.75 a month billed yearly for one social set, which is one profile on each of 8 networks, with 30 posts per profile a month, 5 AI credits, 3 months of analytics and a link in bio page. Growth at $37.50 adds approvals, a social inbox and 180 posts per profile. On Publer, 8 accounts cost $32 a month on Professional with unlimited scheduling but no analytics. Later has no X, Bluesky, Telegram or Mastodon, which Publer covers. Pick Later for visual Instagram and TikTok planning with one profile per network, and Publer for more accounts, more networks and no post cap.
Publer vs Meta Business Suite turns on how many networks you use. Meta's overview of Business Suite says it is free on desktop and in its phone app, schedules Facebook and Instagram content, and puts messages and comments from a Facebook Page, Messenger, Instagram and a WhatsApp Business account in one inbox. Meta's cross posting guide adds Facebook Groups and Threads as destinations. Nothing outside Meta is covered. If Facebook and Instagram are your whole plan, start with Business Suite and pay nothing. Add Publer or Buffer once LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest or X matter.
The same rule answers Buffer vs Meta Business Suite. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels across any of its networks, so it is the free step up from Business Suite when you add a network outside Meta, and Business Suite stays the better place to answer Meta private messages, which neither Publer nor Buffer lists.
How to Switch From Buffer to Publer
People make this move to cut the per account bill or to get recycling and RSS automation. We found no import from Buffer in Publer's help center, so a CSV file is the bridge. Cancel Buffer last.
- Step 1
Export Buffer Insights While You Still Pay
Exports as CSV, Markdown or PDF are a paid feature, per Buffer's Insights guide, and after a downgrade the Sent tab shows only the last 30 days, per Buffer's downgrade guide. Export the date range you want first, because analytics history does not move between tools.
- Step 2
Count Accounts and Pick the Publer Plan
Count every profile, Page, group and channel you will connect. If you need only a queue, Professional costs $4 an account from the third. If you need analytics, AI or approvals, it is Business at $7, plus $3 for each extra member. The Business trial lasts 14 days and needs a card or PayPal.
- Step 3
Reconnect Each Network and Recreate Workspaces
Connections never transfer between tools, so sign in to each network again from Publer. Put each brand or client in its own workspace, set posting schedules, and add Telegram or WordPress if you skipped them on Buffer.
- Step 4
Rebuild the Queue From a CSV
Download Publer's CSV template and paste in the text, media links and times of your queued Buffer posts. A paid plan takes up to 500 posts at once, per Publer's bulk scheduling guide. Then mark evergreen posts for recycling on Business.
- Step 5
Cancel Buffer From the Billing Page
The account owner opens Billing, clicks the three dots and chooses Cancel Plan, per Buffer's cancellation guide. The plan runs to the end of the period and drops to Free, where you can keep 3 channels as a spare queue. Buffer's refund policy covers 7 days on monthly plans and 30 days on annual ones.
How to Switch From Publer to Buffer
People make this move for analytics without the Business plan, a comment inbox, an open API or a team with many users. Order matters, because a Publer downgrade deletes scheduled posts.
- Step 1
Copy the Publer Queue Before Anything Else
Moving from a paid Publer plan to Free deletes all scheduled posts, per Publer's guide to changing plans. Save the text and media of everything still scheduled, and if you are on Business, download your analytics as PDF or CSV.
- Step 2
Start Buffer on Free or the Trial
Connect up to 3 channels on Free, or start the one time 14 day trial of the paid plans, which drops to Free if you add no card, per Buffer's free trial article. Telegram, WordPress and Facebook personal profiles have no place in Buffer, so decide where those posts go.
- Step 3
Bulk Upload Text and Image Posts
Download Buffer's CSV template from each channel's settings and paste in your saved posts. Paid plans take 100 posts per channel per file, per Buffer's bulk upload guide. Video and carousel posts have to be added in the composer one by one.
- Step 4
Rebuild Recycling as Recurring Posts
Buffer has no recycling. For posts you repeated on Publer, use Make Recurring on a queued post if the Beta is on for your account, or duplicate sent posts by hand. Vary the text between repeats to stay clear of spam filters.
- Step 5
Cancel or Pause Publer
In Publer go to Settings, then Billing, then Cancel or pause subscription. A pause of 1, 2 or 3 months keeps posts, insights and account data, per Publer's cancellation guide, and Publer's refund policy gives a full refund within 14 days of each web payment.
How We Compared Publer and Buffer
Everything on this page was read on October 19, 2026. For Publer we used 35 help center articles and 6 posts from its own blog, all listed in the sources. Publer's plans page redirects in a loop for automated link checkers, so we read its price selector for the per account and per member rates and cite Publer's plans and pricing article for the rules behind them. For Buffer we used its pricing page, its machine readable pricing file, its changelog, its about page, its open dashboard, its MCP page and 23 help center articles. Publer's support article and Buffer's pricing file describe each support team.
Three things could not be verified and are left out: when Publer was founded, how many people work there, and Publer's daily post limits per network, which its help center describes without numbers. Buffer has no published comparison with Publer, so the only vendor comparison quoted is Publer's, and we flag where it is out of date. We did not run paid accounts on either tool for this page, so nothing here is a claim about speed or reliability.
We make Spreadcast, and it appears in one section and one table. If a price or limit here no longer matches a vendor's page, the vendor's page is right.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Publer better than Buffer?
For one person who schedules a lot of posts on many accounts, yes: Publer Professional costs $4 an account from the third and adds bulk uploads of 500 posts and RSS automations, per Publer's plans and pricing article. Buffer is better if you want analytics, AI, a comment inbox and an API without a top plan, since Buffer's pricing page includes them from the free plan.
Is Publer cheaper than Buffer?
For scheduling alone, yes, up to 54 accounts: 10 accounts cost $36 a month on Publer Professional and $60 on Buffer Essentials. With analytics in the requirement, Buffer is cheaper at every size, because Publer's analytics need Business at $7 an account against Buffer's $6. For teams with approvals the two are within a few dollars around 30 accounts.
Publer vs Buffer free plan: which is better?
Buffer's, for most people. Both cover 3 accounts with 10 scheduled posts each, but Buffer Free allows X and includes 30 days of analytics, an unlimited AI assistant, a comment inbox and API access. Publer Free excludes X, deletes published posts from its history after 24 hours and keeps analytics and AI for Business.
Why can't I add X to Publer's free plan?
Publer allows X accounts only on paid plans, and its supported networks article says that is because of the cost of X's enterprise API. The cheapest way to add X on Publer is Professional at $5 a month for one account. Buffer's free plan allows X, per Buffer's machine readable pricing file.
Which has better analytics, Publer or Buffer?
Publer Business has more: best times to post, hashtag analytics, competitor analysis for up to 10 pages per account and scheduled PDF reports. Buffer has analytics on every plan, with 30 days on Free and full history, reports and exports from $6 a channel, but no competitor tracking.
Can Buffer recycle posts like Publer?
Not in the same way. Publer Business recycles evergreen posts into your posting schedule and also repeats posts on fixed dates. Buffer offers recurring posts in Beta, where you set a repeat count and cadence on a queued post, per Buffer's recurring posts article, and you can duplicate a sent post by hand.
Do Publer and Buffer have an API and an MCP server?
Both do. Buffer's API and MCP server are on every plan, the free one included, with 3,000 API requests per 30 days on Free. Publer's API and MCP server are for Business customers in good standing and Enterprise, and its API keys can include analytics scopes.
Publer vs Later: which should I choose?
Choose Later if you plan an Instagram and TikTok feed visually and one profile on each of its 8 networks is enough: Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly with 30 posts per profile. Choose Publer for more accounts, unlimited scheduling and networks Later does not list, such as X, Bluesky and Telegram.
Do I need Publer or Buffer if I only use Facebook and Instagram?
Probably not. Meta's overview of Business Suite says it is free and schedules Facebook and Instagram content with an inbox for Page, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp messages. Add Publer or Buffer once a network outside Meta matters.
What should I check before trusting a Publer vs Buffer Reddit thread?
Check the date. Buffer changed its prices in November 2025 and Publer's pricing article was updated in September 2026, so older threads quote plans that no longer exist. Even Publer's own Buffer comparison from January 2026 lists a Buffer Agency plan and says Buffer has no YouTube, both out of date.
Do Publer and Buffer offer nonprofit discounts?
Both take 50% off. Publer's nonprofit article asks for a government issued document such as a 501(c)(3) letter, and Buffer's nonprofit discount applies to paid plans after a review that takes up to 48 hours.
Is there a Publer or Buffer alternative for an app on the App Store?
Spreadcast. It designs each post from your App Store listing, writes a caption for each network and publishes to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video posts. Free drafts your posts; Pro is $29 a month and includes design, captions and publishing to every network.
