App Store Campaign Link Generator: Make a Tracked Link for Every Channel

Enter your app ID, your provider token and a list of campaign names. The App Store campaign link generator below writes one link per name in Apple's format and checks each name against Apple's rules. It is free and needs no account.

The number after pt= in any campaign link App Store Connect has made for you. It is the same for all your campaigns.
Up to 30 characters each: letters, numbers, spaces and common punctuation.

Made in your browser. This tool does not connect to App Store Connect.

How to Use the App Store Campaign Link Generator Above

The tool at the top of this page turns a list of names into a list of links. It runs in your browser and takes about a minute.

  1. Step 1

Paste Your App Store Link or Type the App ID

The tool needs the app's numeric ID, and it accepts the whole App Store link as well. The ID is the number after the letters id in the product page address. Apple's reference for app information calls it the Apple ID, says it is generated when you add the app to your account and shows it in the App Information section of App Store Connect.

  2. Step 2

    Enter Your Provider Token

The provider token is the pt value in any campaign link App Store Connect has already generated for you. Copy the digits after pt= from one of those links. The field takes them with or without the pt= in front. According to Apple's help page on campaign links, the token identifies your developer account, you receive it the first time you create a campaign link, and it stays the same for every campaign.

  3. Step 3

Type One Campaign Name per Line

Each line becomes one link. If you do not have a list yet, the Add Starter Names button adds a set for common places: Instagram bio, TikTok bio, X post, LinkedIn post, newsletter, website and Product Hunt. Edit or delete any of them.

  4. Step 4

Fix the Names the Tool Marks

The tool checks each name against Apple's rules and marks one that breaks them: more than 30 characters, a space as the first or last character, or a character outside the letters, numbers, spaces and punctuation Apple lists. A marked name shows the reason in place of a link. Shorten or retype it and the link appears.

  5. Step 5

Copy One Link or Copy All

For each name the tool writes a campaign link in Apple's format: the App Store address for your app ID, followed by pt with your provider token, ct with the campaign name and mt=8. Each link has a Copy button. Copy All copies every valid name with its link, separated by a tab, so the list pastes into a spreadsheet as two columns.

  6. Step 6

    Take the Two Extra Links

Under the campaign links the tool writes two more for the same app: the plain product page link, and the write a review link, which is the product page link with Apple's review action added. Both are covered in their own section below.

  7. Step 7

Add the Same Campaigns in App Store Connect

The tool runs in your browser. It does not create anything in App Store Connect and cannot read your analytics. Apple's steps add each campaign under Analytics, Acquisition, Campaigns, so enter the same names there. The next section explains the split.

What the App Store Campaign Link Generator Does and What App Store Connect Does

An App Store campaign link is a normal link to your product page with two extra values on the end, so that App Store Connect can report what arrived through it. Apple's help page on campaign links describes the feature as a way to measure which marketing efforts drive the most app downloads, and says each link maps traffic back to a specific campaign in a privacy friendly way.

Apple's own process is to create each campaign in App Store Connect. You select the app, open the Analytics tab, click Campaigns in the Acquisition section, click the add button, type a campaign name and copy the link it gives you. The campaign name is the campaign token. The provider token comes with the first link and never changes.

That works well for one link and slowly for twenty, and it gives no warning before you paste a link with a typo into seven bios. The generator on this page prepares and checks the same links in bulk: one app ID, one provider token, a column of names, a column of finished links. It checks every name against the three naming rules from Apple's page.

Here is the limit of what anyone outside Apple can tell you. Apple's page says to reuse your provider token and to change only the campaign token to tell campaigns apart. It does not say whether a link whose campaign name was never added in App Store Connect is counted in the report. This page does not claim either way. Apple's steps add each campaign there, so do that with the names you used here, and the question never comes up.

One thing cannot be generated at all. On the provider token, Apple's page says: "You can't create one manually." If you have never made a campaign link, make one in App Store Connect first and copy the pt value from it. Apple adds that the Campaigns tab and its add button only appear once the app has analytics data, so a new app has to be live and downloaded before the first link exists.

Anatomy of an App Store Campaign Link: The URL Parameters pt, ct and mt

Apple prints a full example on its campaign links page: a link for app 123456789 that ends in ?pt=123456&ct=test1234&mt=8. The parts below are described from that page, checked on October 12, 2026.

Anatomy of an App Store Campaign Link: The URL Parameters pt, ct and mt
Part of the linkWhat it isWho decides its valueIn Apple's example
The addressThe host apps.apple.com, then /app/, then a fixed path segment that Apple's example spells as the words apple and store joined by a hyphen, then the letters id and the app's number.Apple assigns the number when you add the app to your account.id123456789
pt, the provider tokenIdentifies your developer account. Apple notes that it is not specific to a provider such as an ad network. One token serves all your campaigns.Apple, once, when you create your first campaign link in App Store Connect.pt=123456
ct, the campaign tokenThe campaign name. This is the part that tells one campaign from another, so it is the only value that changes between your links.You. Up to 30 characters.ct=test1234
mt, the media type tokenApple's page names the token and does not define its values. Every example on the page uses 8, and the tool writes the same.Fixed.mt=8
app=messages, optionalSends people to the product page on the App Store for iMessage. Apple says iMessage and sticker pack extensions share their product page with the iOS app.You add it only for an iMessage app. The tool does not add it.&app=messages at the end of the link
A region code such as /us/, optionalSome App Store links carry a storefront code after the host. Apple says it does not restrict where the link works: each person is sent to their own local storefront.Nobody needs to. The link works worldwide without it.Present in Apple's iMessage example, absent from its main one

The same two tokens work outside a link. Apple's page says to add the campaign token and provider token when you implement a Smart App Banner on your website, and to pass them as parameters when another app presents your product page through StoreKit.

Apple's Rules for a Campaign Name and What the Tool Checks

The campaign name is typed by a person, so it is where links go wrong. These are the rules on Apple's campaign links page, with what the generator does about each.

Apple's Rules for a Campaign Name and What the Tool Checks
RuleWhat Apple saysWhat the tool doesExample that breaks it
LengthUp to 30 characters.Marks a name with more than 30 characters.instagram_story_october_update_v2_4, which is 35 characters
Spaces at the endsA space cannot be the first or last character of the campaign token.Marks a name that starts or ends with a space. These are easy to pick up when you paste from a spreadsheet.A name pasted with a space after the last letter
Allowed charactersAlphanumeric characters and spaces, plus a listed set of punctuation: square brackets, slash, backslash, hyphen, tilde, plus, equals, angle brackets, colon, semicolon, comma, period, underscore, quotation marks, asterisk, ampersand, dollar sign, percent sign, number sign, at sign, question mark, exclamation mark, vertical bar, curly braces and parentheses.Marks a name with any character outside letters, numbers, spaces and that list.A name with an emoji in it

Allowed is not the same as wise. Several characters on Apple's list have a job inside a web address. MDN's explanation of what a URL is shows parameters as pairs of a key and a value joined by an equals sign and separated by ampersands, with a number sign starting the anchor at the end. MDN's reference for encodeURIComponent, the standard function for encoding a value inside a link, lists the characters it leaves as they are: the letters A to Z in both cases, the digits, and the hyphen, underscore, period, exclamation mark, tilde, asterisk, apostrophe and parentheses. A space is not among them. The generator encodes every name when it writes the link, so a space appears as %20 and an ampersand as %26, and the link stays valid. Names made of lowercase letters, digits and underscores skip the encoding altogether and read the same in the link, in the report and in a spreadsheet.

Where to Find Your App Store Provider Token and App ID

Both values are fixed for the life of the app, so look them up once and keep them with your launch notes.

  1. Step 1

Open a Campaign Link You Already Have

If you or a teammate ever created a campaign in App Store Connect, the link it produced contains your provider token. Find pt= in the link and copy the digits up to the next ampersand.

  2. Step 2

If You Have None, Create One Campaign in App Store Connect

Follow the steps on Apple's campaign links page: in Apps, select the app, click the Analytics tab, click Campaigns in the Acquisition section, click the add button next to Campaigns and enter a name. Copy the link. Its pt value is your token for every later campaign.

  3. Step 3

If the Campaigns Tab or the Add Button Is Missing

Apple's page explains that the feature becomes available only after the app has received analytics data. For a new app, it suggests checking again once the app has been live and generating downloads for at least 24 hours, and planning campaign links around that in your launch timeline.

  4. Step 4

Find the App ID in the Product Page Address

Apple's StoreKit article on requesting reviews notes that you can find the App Store ID in your app's product URL. It is the run of digits after id. Pasting the whole link into the tool saves you from copying the wrong part.

  5. Step 5

Or Read the App ID in App Store Connect

Apple's guide to Smart App Banners gives the other route: select the app in App Store Connect, open App Information under General and read the value listed as Apple ID.

A Naming Scheme for App Store Campaign Links, With Examples per Network

A good campaign name answers two questions when you read the report three months later: where was the link, and which post or release was it for. The names below are examples for an invented app on version 2.4. They are our suggestion, not Apple's, and each fits Apple's 30 character limit.

A Naming Scheme for App Store Campaign Links, With Examples per Network
Where the link goesExample campaign nameCharactersWhy it is named this way
Instagram profile linkig_bio6A permanent placement. Keep one name for good, so the numbers add up over the year.
Instagram Story with a Link stickerig_story_v2412A Story is short lived. Name it after the release so you can compare releases.
TikTok profile linktiktok_bio10Permanent, like the Instagram one.
X post about the updatex_post_v2410One name per announcement. Reuse it in replies under the same post.
LinkedIn postlinkedin_v2412Tells you whether the founder's network installs or only reads.
Threads postthreads_v2411Separate from Instagram, so you can see what Threads sends by itself.
Bluesky postbsky_v248Short names leave room for a date later.
Pinterest Pinpin_meal_plans14Pins live for months, so name the Pin by its topic, not by the release.
Email newsletternewsletter_oct2616One name per issue shows which subject line worked.
Website button or bannerweb_banner10Permanent. Use a second name for a second button on another page.
Product Hunt launchph_launch9For the links you share around launch day, so the spike shows apart from everything else.

Three habits keep the report readable. Start every name with the place, so related campaigns sort together. Use one spelling: the campaign token is what identifies a campaign, so ig_bio and insta_bio are two campaigns. And write the list down next to the links, because a name like x_post_v24 means nothing a year later without the date beside it.

Where Each Social Network Lets You Place an App Store Campaign Link

A campaign link only counts taps if people can tap it. Each row comes from the network's own help page or documentation, opened on October 12, 2026.

InstagramThe links on your profile, and a Link sticker in a Story.Instagram's Help Center says you can add up to 5 websites to your profile, from the mobile app. Instagram opened the Link sticker in Stories to all accounts in October 2021.
TikTokThe website link on your profile.TikTok's page on account types says General TikTok Accounts with at least 1,000 followers can post a website link on their profile, and Verified Business Accounts can post one too.
XIn the text of a post.A campaign link is long, and on X that costs nothing extra. X's documentation on counting characters says every URL counts as 23 characters, whatever its real length.
LinkedInIn the text of a post.LinkedIn's help page on posts allows up to 3,000 characters, so there is room for the link and the reason to tap it.
ThreadsIn the text of a post.Meta's Threads documentation restricts a post to 5 links or fewer. One campaign link per post is the sensible number anyway.
BlueskyIn the text of a post.Bluesky's documentation on posts describes website card embeds, the preview that shows up when you post a URL.
PinterestThe Link field of a Pin.Pinterest's help page on creating a Pin lists Link among the fields, as a place for people to learn more. More on this in Pinterest for app founders.
YouTubeChannel profile links.YouTube's help page on sharing links says URLs in Shorts descriptions and Shorts comments are not clickable, and that a channel can show up to 14 profile links.
Product HuntThe optional Links field of a launch.Product Hunt's launch guide says the main URL field does not accept shortened links or tracking links. Put the plain product page link there. The guide lists a separate optional field for links such as the App Store and does not repeat the rule for it, so try a campaign link in that field and fall back to the plain link if it is refused.
Your own websiteA download button, or a Smart App Banner in Safari.Apple's campaign links page says to add your campaign token and provider token when you implement a Smart App Banner. The banner itself is set up with a meta tag, described in Apple's guide to Smart App Banners.

For what to post around the link on each network, see how to promote an app on social media.

How to Read the Campaigns Report: Metrics, Thresholds and Delays

To see the numbers, Apple's campaign links page says to open the Analytics tab, click Metrics in the sidebar, click Add Filter, choose Campaign and pick a campaign from the menu. Analytics records the impressions, product page views, downloads, usage, sales and subscriptions tied to each campaign token, and you can break them down by territory, device or page type. The rules below explain why a number is often missing.

How to Read the Campaigns Report: Metrics, Thresholds and Delays
What you seeThe rule on Apple's pageWhat to do
No Campaigns tab, or no add buttonThe feature becomes available only after the app has received analytics data.Wait until the app has been live and downloaded for at least 24 hours, then look again.
A new campaign is not in the listCampaigns appear in Analytics only after a minimum of 24 hours since their launch.Check the next day. Apple also says to make sure the link includes both a provider token and a campaign token.
The campaign is listed with no dataData for a campaign appears once it has generated first time downloads from at least five individual users.A link in a quiet bio can take weeks to reach five. Put it where more people will tap it, or wait.
One metric is blankEach metric appears only if it meets a minimum threshold of 5 in the selected date range.Widen the date range. Apple gives this exact advice.
Fewer downloads than tapsA person counts as a first time download when they download the app for the first time within 24 hours of using the link.Expect a gap. Someone who taps today and installs next week is not counted for the campaign.
Two campaigns, one customerIf a person clicks more than one campaign link, only the most recent link receives credit for later sales.Read campaigns as last touch. A newsletter that reminds people will take credit from the post that first reached them.
An export with missing rowsBulk export goes through Apple's Analytics reports API. Individual campaigns appear only in the detailed reports, where rows for very small groups may be withheld or combined.Treat it as expected behavior, which is how Apple describes it.

A worked example with invented numbers: over 30 days ig_bio shows 240 product page views and 31 first time downloads, while x_post_v24 shows 60 views and a blank where downloads should be. The blank does not mean zero. It means fewer than 5. Without any campaign link, the same traffic would sit in the Sources report under the app referrer and web referrer source types that Apple's acquisition help page defines, with no way to tell one post from another.

App Store Connect Analytics Access, Reports and the Analytics API

Two questions come up once the links are live: who on the team can see the numbers, and how to get them out of App Store Connect into a spreadsheet. The answers below come from Apple's pages on the Analytics dashboard and downloading Analytics reports, checked on October 17, 2026.

App Store Connect Analytics Access, Reports and the Analytics API
QuestionWhat Apple saysWhat it means for campaign links
Who can see the Analytics dashboardAccount Holder, Admin, Finance or Sales role.A teammate who posts on social media but has another role cannot read the campaign numbers. Give them the Sales role, or send them the figures.
Who can request a report through the APIAn Admin role is required to request a report type for the first time. After that, API keys with the Sales and Reports or Finance role can download the generated reports. An Admin makes the first request once. A script with a Sales and Reports key can then collect the files.
Ongoing or one timeAn ONGOING request produces reports daily, weekly and monthly. A ONE_TIME_SNAPSHOT collects all available historical data.Use ongoing for a weekly campaign sheet, and a snapshot once to fill in the past.
When does App Store Connect Analytics updateThe first ongoing report arrives about 24 to 48 hours after the request. Data for a given day is considered complete two days after that day.Read a campaign from launch day on the third day at the earliest, and on top of that allow the 24 hours Apple gives for a new campaign to appear.
File formatCompressed, tab delimited text files. They open in any spreadsheet once unzipped.
Small numbersThresholding omits rows with data from fewer than five users or five unique devices, and a small amount of statistical noise is added to metrics.A campaign with three downloads will not show up as a row. Totals can differ slightly from what you count elsewhere.
Whose usage is countedUsage data comes from users who agreed to share their data, on iOS 8 and later and other listed systems. watchOS is not included.Sessions and other usage numbers describe the people who opted in, not every person who downloaded.

Campaign links get their own section in the dashboard, described by Apple as attribution and performance for marketing links and campaigns, with an overview widget for total downloads by campaign.

Campaign Links vs Custom Product Pages vs Apple Ads Attribution

Apple offers several ways to learn where downloads come from. They answer different questions, and a campaign link is the only one built for free posts and bios. Each row is from Apple's own page on the feature.

Custom product pageA different version of your product page for a specific audience. Apple's page on custom product pages allows up to 70, each with a unique URL that adds a product page ID parameter to the default link. App Store UTM Parameters: What Happens to UTM Tags on an App Store Link

Marketers who tag every web link with UTM parameters often add utm_source and utm_campaign to App Store links too. Apple's campaign links page describes only the provider token and the campaign token, and App Store Connect builds its campaign reports from those. Nothing on Apple's pages says it reads UTM values, so a link tagged only with utm_source has no report to land in. Use ct for the campaign name on any App Store link.

UTM tracking still has a job: on links to your own website. A post that sends people to a landing page can carry UTM parameters, built with the tools on Google's Analytics Help page on URL builders, so your web analytics shows which post brought the visit. The download button on that page then carries a campaign link, and a Smart App Banner carries the two tokens, as described above. The web visit shows up in your analytics, and the download shows up in App Store Connect.

Expect the two to disagree on source. In Apple's tech talk on acquisition with App Store Connect Analytics, Apple explains that a web referrer is counted when someone taps a link on a website in Safari and downloads the app, and that a link opened in another browser counts as an app referrer for that browser. Without a campaign token, the same visit could land in either bucket. With one, it is credited to the campaign you named.

The App Store Write a Review Link, the Product Page Link and Short Links

The tool also works as a plain App Store link generator: it writes two links that carry no campaign. The first is the product page link: the App Store address with your app ID and nothing after it. Use it where a tracking link is unwelcome or where you will never read a report, such as the main URL of a Product Hunt launch, a press kit or your email signature.

The second is the App Store write a review link. Apple's StoreKit article on requesting reviews describes it as a deep link to the app's App Store page with one query parameter appended. The parameter is named action, and its value is the words write and review joined by a hyphen. The article presents it as the way to let a person start a review from an action in your interface, such as a Rate This App row in settings.

That makes it different from the review prompt. The same article says the system shows the prompt at most three times within a 365 day period and advises against calling it from a button. The link has no such cap, because the person chose to tap it. Put it in a settings screen, a thank you email or a reply to a happy support ticket. More ways to earn reviews are in how to get App Store reviews.

People also look for an App Store short link, because a campaign link is long. Apple's App Store marketing guidelines point to its marketing tools, which generate short links and embeddable code that lead to your product page and display your app icon, a QR code or an App Store badge. Neither that page nor the campaign links page says whether those short links can carry a campaign token, so do not assume they do.

In most places the length does not matter. X counts every URL as 23 characters, and a link in a profile is tapped, not typed. If you put a campaign link behind a link shortener of your own, tap it on a phone before you publish and confirm that the App Store opens on your app. Keep in mind that Product Hunt's guide refuses shortened links in its main URL field.

How to Track Google Play Installs With Google's Own URL Builder

The generator on this page writes App Store links only. Google Play has its own scheme, built on UTM parameters, and Google provides the tools for it.

In Play Console, the store listing reports can be filtered by UTM source and UTM campaign. Google's Play Console Help page on growing your user base defines those two dimensions as the values of the utm_source and utm_campaign parameters in deep links to your store listing, shown on the conversion analysis page under Store performance. The page adds that the UTM source dimension is available only when the traffic source is filtered by ads and referrals, and that values without enough visitors are grouped under Other.

To build the link, Google points Android developers to a separate tool. Google's Analytics Help page on URL builders says that if you are advertising an Android app you should use the Play Campaign URL Builder, and that it needs the Google Analytics for Firebase SDK in the app. The builder asks for an ad network, the application ID and a campaign source, with medium, term, content and campaign name as optional fields.

The two stores therefore need two links for the same post. Keep the names parallel, for example ig_bio as the campaign token on the App Store and as the campaign name on Google Play, and one row of your spreadsheet can hold both.

Nine Mistakes With App Store Connect Campaign Links

Most of these produce a link that opens the App Store correctly and reports nothing useful.

  • Making up a Provider Token

The token is issued by Apple and tied to your developer account. A link with an invented number still opens your product page, which is why the mistake goes unnoticed. Copy the pt value from a link App Store Connect generated.

  • One Campaign Name for Every Channel

If every link says ct=launch, the report has one row and you learn nothing about channels. The campaign token is the only part that should differ, so give each placement its own.

  • Two Spellings of the Same Campaign

Retyping a name from memory gives you ig_bio in one place and igbio in another. Those are two campaign tokens. Copy links from the tool or from your saved list and never retype them.

  • Names That Break Apple's Rules

Over 30 characters, a space at either end or a character outside Apple's list. The tool marks all three before you copy anything.

  • Punctuation That Means Something in a Link

An ampersand or a number sign inside a name ends the campaign token early when a link is not encoded. The tool encodes them for you, but a link that someone retypes or edits by hand loses that protection. Apple allows these characters in a campaign name. Leave them out anyway.

  • Checking the Report the Same Evening

A campaign needs at least 24 hours to appear and first time downloads from five people to show data. Look after a week, and widen the date range before you conclude that a channel is dead.

  • Expecting to See Who Installed

Campaign reports are totals. Apple withholds a metric under 5 and may hold back or combine rows for very small groups in exports. You will know that Instagram sent 31 downloads, never which 31 people.

  • A Link Nobody Can Tap

A campaign link pasted into a YouTube Shorts description is plain text, because YouTube does not make those URLs clickable. Check the table of placements before you spend a campaign name on one.

  • Skipping App Store Connect

The tool prepares links. Apple's process creates campaigns in App Store Connect, and that is also where the results are read. Add each name there on the same day you publish the links.

A Launch Week Routine to Track App Store Downloads From Social Media

Campaign links pay off when they are part of the release routine and not a separate chore. The day a version is approved, open your saved list, change the release part of each name, paste the list into the generator and copy the links into the posts you are about to publish. Permanent placements such as profile links keep their names and need no change.

Add the new names in App Store Connect before the posts go out. A week later, filter the Metrics view by each campaign and write the first time downloads next to the name in your list. After three releases the list shows which channels are worth the effort, which is the question most small teams never get to answer.

The links belong with the rest of the release kit. The app release notes generator drafts the What's New text, the App Store character counter checks the listing fields against Apple's limits, and the App Store screenshot size checker checks the new screenshots before you upload them. The app launch checklist puts all of it in order, and how to promote an app for free covers the channels that cost nothing but time.

What Spreadcast Does Once Your Links Are Ready

The generator on this page is a free tool and stands alone. Spreadcast, the product behind it, makes the posts those links go into. You paste your App Store link once on the start page, and Spreadcast checks your App Store listing every day.

Each new version and rating milestone becomes a designed post, built from your icon and screenshots and published for you on the networks you connect. The Free plan drafts the posts for you to download, and the plans are on the pricing page. For posters, flyers and slides, the App Store QR code generator puts the same campaign link into a QR code.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an App Store campaign link?

It is a link to your App Store product page that carries a provider token (pt) and a campaign token (ct), so App Store Connect can report the downloads that came through it. Apple's help page on campaign links describes creating one under Analytics, Acquisition, Campaigns.

Where do I find my App Store provider token?

It is the number after pt= in any campaign link that App Store Connect has generated for your account. Apple issues it with your first campaign link and it stays the same for all later campaigns. It cannot be created by hand.

What do pt, ct and mt mean in an App Store link?

pt is the provider token, which identifies your developer account. ct is the campaign token, which is the campaign name of up to 30 characters. mt is the media type token, and Apple's examples set it to 8.

Can I track App Store downloads from social media?

Yes, as totals per campaign. Give each network or post its own campaign link, and App Store Connect shows impressions, product page views and first time downloads for each one once a metric reaches 5. It never shows individual people.

Why is my campaign not showing in App Store Connect?

Apple says campaigns appear only after a minimum of 24 hours, and data appears once a campaign has first time downloads from at least five people. Check that the link has both a provider token and a campaign token, then widen the date range.

Is the App Store campaign link generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and runs in your browser. It does not connect to App Store Connect, so it cannot create campaigns there or read your analytics.

How do I get a link that opens the App Store review form?

Add Apple's review action to your product page link. Apple's StoreKit article on requesting reviews documents the parameter, and the tool above writes the finished link for your app ID.

Can I use UTM parameters on an App Store link?

Apple's campaign feature reads its own pt and ct values, and its help page does not mention UTM parameters. UTM source and UTM campaign are what Google Play Console reports for links to a Google Play listing.
