What a LinkedIn MCP Server Does
A LinkedIn MCP server is a small program that gives an AI assistant tools for LinkedIn. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor speak the Model Context Protocol, so once a server is connected the assistant can call tools such as "create a post" or "upload an image". You ask in plain words, the assistant picks the tool, and the server talks to LinkedIn.
Most people who search for a LinkedIn MCP server want one of two things. The first group wants to post: turn a release note or a rough idea into a LinkedIn post, with a picture, without opening LinkedIn. The second wants to read: look up profiles, search jobs or pull messages. The two need very different servers, and the difference decides whether you use LinkedIn's own API or something that pretends to be you in a browser.
This page is about the first group: a LinkedIn MCP server for posting. It covers what LinkedIn lets a tool publish, what the popular GitHub projects risk, and how to set up a Claude LinkedIn post or a ChatGPT LinkedIn post step by step, with Spreadcast as the worked example.
If you want the wider field first, our roundup of the best social media MCP servers compares every scheduling vendor that runs one, and the Spreadcast social media MCP server page covers the server across all the networks it supports. This page stays on LinkedIn.
Is There an Official LinkedIn MCP Server?
No, not on October 16, 2026. LinkedIn publishes no MCP server, no MCP address to paste into Claude and no LinkedIn connector for posting in Claude's connector settings. A search of LinkedIn's developer documentation on Microsoft Learn for MCP and Model Context Protocol returns nothing about a server. Every LinkedIn MCP server you can install or connect today is built by someone other than LinkedIn.
LinkedIn does have a presence inside ChatGPT, and it is easy to mistake for one. LinkedIn's app in the ChatGPT plugin directory lists LinkedIn as its developer and describes itself as a way to look up professionals: a person's title, company, location and follower count, with a link through to their profile. It does not write or publish posts. So if you came here hoping for an official "post to LinkedIn" button inside ChatGPT, it does not exist yet.
What LinkedIn does offer officially is its API. The LinkedIn Posts API reference on Microsoft Learn documents how an approved tool creates text, image, video, document, article, poll and multi image posts on behalf of a member or a company page. Any MCP server that posts to LinkedIn within LinkedIn's rules is, underneath, a client of this API.
That gives you a first test for any LinkedIn MCP server: ask how it reaches LinkedIn. If the answer is "through LinkedIn's API, after you sign in on LinkedIn and approve a permission", it is working inside LinkedIn's rules. If the answer is "it uses your browser session" or "paste your li_at cookie here", it is not, and the section on account risk below explains what that means.
Does LinkedIn Have an Open API, and Is It Free?
Yes to both, with limits. LinkedIn has a public API, but only a small part of it is open. LinkedIn's getting access page says most permissions and partner programs need explicit approval, and open permissions are the only ones any developer gets without it. There are three: profile and email from Sign in with LinkedIn, and w_member_social from Share on LinkedIn, which posts, comments and likes for the member who signed in. So the open API for posting covers your own profile and nothing more.
Everything else sits behind an application. The Advertising API, the Community Management API for company pages, the Sales Navigator permissions and the hiring integrations each have their own review, per the same page. There is no open API for searching jobs or reading other people's profiles, which is why the GitHub servers that do those things drive a browser instead.
On price, LinkedIn's API Terms of Use, last revised December 13, 2022, say LinkedIn does not charge a fee for the APIs today but may choose to in the future. The same terms set a default ceiling of 100,000 calls a day, and among the things an app must not do they list using the APIs to automate posting on LinkedIn. That is one more reason a LinkedIn MCP server should put every post in front of a person before it goes out.
A free API does not make every LinkedIn MCP server free. Open source servers cost nothing but your time and a developer app of your own. Hosted servers charge for the service around the API: Spreadcast saves drafts on the Free plan and schedules and publishes on Pro, as the plans table at the end of this page shows.
Is There a LinkedIn Ads MCP Server?
Not from LinkedIn. A search of LinkedIn's developer documentation on October 16, 2026 found no MCP server for Campaign Manager, the ads side of LinkedIn. Servers that read or change LinkedIn ad campaigns from Claude are built by third parties on the Advertising API, which LinkedIn's getting access page says developers must be approved for before they can use it.
Spreadcast does not run ads. It makes organic posts. TikTok, by contrast, runs an official ads MCP server, covered on our TikTok MCP server page.
What LinkedIn's API Lets a Tool Post in October 2026
These are the limits any LinkedIn MCP server for posting has to live within, whoever built it. Each row comes from LinkedIn's own documentation, read on October 16, 2026.
| What | LinkedIn's rule |
|---|---|
| Posting as yourself | The w_member_social permission posts, comments and likes for the member who signed in. It is an open permission that any developer can add through the Share on LinkedIn product, per LinkedIn's getting access page. |
| Posting as a company page | The w_organization_social permission works only for members with the Administrator, Content Admin or Direct Sponsored Content Poster role on the page, per the Posts API reference. It comes with the Community Management API, which developers apply for. |
| Text | Up to 3,000 characters, per LinkedIn help on posting updates. The API calls the text commentary and reads it in its own little text format, where some characters have a special meaning. |
| One picture | JPG, GIF or PNG under 36,152,320 pixels, uploaded first to get an image ID, per the Images API reference. |
| Several pictures | At least 2 and at most 20 in a multi image post, created only as an organic post, per the MultiImage API reference. |
| Documents, the format people call a carousel | PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC or DOCX, at most 100 MB and 300 pages, per the Documents API reference. |
| Video | MP4 from three seconds to 30 minutes and from 75 KB to 500 MB, uploaded in parts of about 4 MB, per the Videos API reference. |
| Carousel content type | Sponsored only. The Posts API reference says an organic carousel is not supported. |
| How many calls | 150 requests a day per member and 100,000 a day per app, counted in UTC, per the Share on LinkedIn guide. |
| Reading your own posts back | The r_member_social permission is restricted to approved users only, so most tools can post but cannot read your posts or their likes. |
| How long a sign in lasts | Access tokens last 60 days, and programmatic refresh tokens go only to a limited set of partners, per LinkedIn's OAuth guide. |
LinkedIn changes these pages from time to time. If a number on LinkedIn's page differs when you read it, trust LinkedIn's page.
Member Profile or Company Page: Which Permission a Server Needs
The biggest difference between LinkedIn MCP servers is whose name the post goes out under. Posting as yourself and posting as a company page are separate permissions with very different paths to get them.
Posting as yourself is the easy one. LinkedIn's getting access page lists w_member_social under its open permissions, the only ones "available to all developers without special approval". That is why nearly every open source LinkedIn MCP server you find on GitHub posts to a personal profile and nothing else.
Posting as a company page is harder. The w_organization_social permission belongs to the Community Management API, and LinkedIn's page on access tiers says every app starts in a Development tier with a limit of 500 API calls per app and 100 per member in 24 hours, meant for building and testing within twelve months. Production use needs a separate Standard tier application, and LinkedIn says it may decline a partner even when the minimum requirements are met. On top of the app's permission, the person signing in must hold a page role such as Administrator or Content Admin, per the Posts API reference.
For a small app studio the founder's profile is often the better place anyway. The LinkedIn post generator page covers what to write for an app release on LinkedIn.
How to Get LinkedIn API Access to Post to a Company Page
Posting to a company page through the API always runs through the Community Management API. LinkedIn's Community Management app review page, read on October 16, 2026, sets out the path. It is built for businesses, not for a weekend project.
- Step 1
Check That You Qualify
LinkedIn offers the Community Management APIs only to registered legal organizations with a commercial use case. You need a business email address that LinkedIn verifies, plus your organization's legal name, registered address, website and privacy policy. Personal email addresses do not pass.
- Step 2
Create the App and Link It to Your Page
Create a new app in the developer portal and have a super admin of your organization's LinkedIn Page verify it. The app's name and logo must not use any part of the LinkedIn or Microsoft names or logos.
- Step 3
Ask for the Development Tier
Submit the access request form. LinkedIn checks the use case, the email, the organization, its website and domain, and the link to the Page. A rejected app cannot apply again: you create a new app and start over.
- Step 4
Build Within the Development Limits
Development tier apps get 500 calls per app and 100 per member in 24 hours, per the access tiers page. That is enough to build and test, not to serve customers.
- Step 5
Apply for the Standard Tier With a Screen Recording
The Standard tier form asks for a company and product overview, test logins for LinkedIn's reviewers and a downloadable, high resolution recording of each use case, such as a user approving access through the full sign in and then posting to their page. LinkedIn also reviews your privacy policy and how you store its data.
- Step 6
Give Page Roles to the People Who Post
Even with an approved app, the person who signs in must hold a role such as Administrator or Content Admin on the page, per the Posts API reference.
Why a LinkedIn Carousel From an API Is a Document Post
The swipeable slide posts people call LinkedIn carousels are, technically, documents. The LinkedIn Posts API reference has a content type named Carousels, but marks it as sponsored only and says plainly that an organic carousel is not supported. The organic version is a document post: a PDF, PowerPoint or Word file that LinkedIn shows page by page. The Documents API reference caps those files at 100 MB and 300 pages.
The API has a third option that is easy to confuse with both: the multi image post. The MultiImage API reference describes it as a post with 2 to 20 pictures, uploaded one by one as images. LinkedIn treats it as a separate content type from a document, so a set of slides posted as pictures is not the same post as the same slides exported to one PDF.
So when an assistant offers to post a carousel, ask which of the two it will make. A server that uploads documents can post a real document carousel if something produces the PDF. A server that only uploads images posts your slides as a multi image post.
The exact sizes for each, how to export a sharp PDF from Canva, PowerPoint, Keynote or Figma, and the safe zones that stop text from being cropped are on our LinkedIn carousel size guide. Slide by slide structures you can copy, including ones built around an app, are on our LinkedIn carousel examples page.
Three Kinds of LinkedIn MCP Server on GitHub and Beyond
Search GitHub for a LinkedIn MCP server and you will find dozens. They sort into three kinds by how they reach LinkedIn, and that decides most of what they can do and what they risk.
Browser Session Servers
These drive a real browser logged in to your LinkedIn account, or reuse cookies copied from your browser. The most popular one, stickerdaniel's LinkedIn MCP server on GitHub, had about 3,900 stars when we read it. Its README lists tools to read profiles, companies, jobs, the feed and your inbox, to send messages and to send connection requests, and no tool that publishes a post. Its own FAQ warns that accounts using automated tools can be restricted or banned.
OAuth Servers You Run Yourself
These use LinkedIn's official API. You create your own LinkedIn developer app and sign in once in a browser. souravdasbiswas's LinkedIn MCP server on GitHub is a typical example: it asks for openid, profile, email and w_member_social, runs on your machine, stores tokens in a local database, and offers tools for text, article and image posts, comments, reactions and events. These stay inside LinkedIn's rules and expect you to be comfortable with a terminal.
Hosted Services With a Server Address
These are companies that already hold a LinkedIn connection for you and offer an MCP address on top. You connect LinkedIn once in their app, then paste one address into Claude or ChatGPT. Nothing runs on your computer. Scheduling tools with MCP servers fall here, and so does Spreadcast. Check which content types it supports, whether company pages are included, and what decides when a post goes live.
The Account Risk of Cookie and Scraping Servers
LinkedIn is unusually clear about automation on its website. LinkedIn's help page on prohibited software and extensions says it does not permit third party software, including crawlers, bots and browser extensions, that scrape, modify the appearance of or automate activity on its website. It points to section 8.2 of its User Agreement and says members who use such tools risk having their accounts restricted or shut down.
A browser session MCP server is exactly that kind of tool, whatever its README calls it: it drives the LinkedIn website while signed in as you. If the account is restricted, the cost lands on you, not on the project. For a founder whose profile is their main sales channel, that is a high price for saving a few minutes a week.
There is a security side too. A cookie such as li_at is a full key to your LinkedIn session. Anything that can read the config file it sits in gets your access, messages included. The MCP security best practices warn that local servers run with the same privileges as the client, can have direct access to your system and can be reached by other processes on your machine. That is a poor place for a credential that cannot be limited to "post only".
Posting through the official API is not a promise of reach either. LinkedIn's help page on posting updates says it may limit the visibility of posts when it detects excessive post creation that points to inauthentic activity, or the use of an automation tool. So post at a human pace and read each post before it goes out. A server that saves drafts for you to approve fits that better than one that publishes the moment the assistant decides to.
How to Run an Open Source LinkedIn MCP Server From GitHub
If you would rather run your own server than use a hosted one, this is the safe path: the OAuth kind, not the cookie kind. The exact commands differ by project, so read its README, but the steps are the same everywhere.
- Step 1
Pick a Server That Uses LinkedIn's API
Read the README first. Look for OAuth, Share on LinkedIn and w_member_social. Walk away from anything that asks for your LinkedIn password, an li_at cookie or a browser profile, and check that the project is still maintained.
- Step 2
Create a LinkedIn Developer App
Sign in to LinkedIn's developer portal and create an app. On the Products tab, add Sign in with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect and Share on LinkedIn. LinkedIn's getting access page lists both as open products that any developer can add through self service.
- Step 3
Add the Redirect Address and Copy the Keys
On the app's Auth tab, add the redirect address the server's README gives you, often a localhost address. Copy the client ID and the client secret into the server's settings, not into a file you share or commit. LinkedIn's OAuth guide warns never to share the client secret or pass it in a URL.
- Step 4
Connect the Server to Your Assistant
Most open source servers run on your computer, so you add them to Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor through a config entry that starts the program. Claude and ChatGPT on the web cannot reach a program on your laptop. They need a public https address, which means hosting the server yourself.
- Step 5
Sign In and Plan for the 60 Day Expiry
The first tool call opens LinkedIn's consent screen, and the server stores a token. LinkedIn issues access tokens for 60 days, and LinkedIn's OAuth guide says programmatic refresh tokens are only for a limited set of partners, so expect to sign in again about every two months.
- Step 6
Keep an Eye on API Versions
LinkedIn's versioned API needs a version number on every call, and versions retire. When we read the Posts API reference, it carried a notice that the November 2025 version sunsets on November 16, 2026. A server pinned to a retired version fails until someone updates it, and with a self hosted server that is you.
Using a LinkedIn MCP Server in Claude Code, Cursor or Docker
Searches for a LinkedIn MCP for Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor, or for a Docker image, come from people who want the server next to their code. Open source LinkedIn servers fit there, because they run as a program on your machine or in a container you start. Claude Code's MCP documentation says a server you add stays private to one project by default, can be shared with a team through a .mcp.json file at the project's root, or can be added for all your projects. Keep a LinkedIn server out of the shared file if its settings hold your client secret or tokens.
A Docker image changes where the server runs, not how it reaches LinkedIn. A cookie based server in a container still drives LinkedIn as you, and a container that holds your tokens is still a key to your account.
Spreadcast needs no program on your machine in either tool. In Claude Code you add spreadcast.app/api/mcp as a remote server and sign in through /mcp, or use a key from Settings, AI Assistants, which saves drafts only unless you switch on Can Publish Posts. The exact commands for both editors are on the social media MCP server page.
How Spreadcast Posts to LinkedIn From Claude and ChatGPT
Spreadcast is a hosted LinkedIn MCP server for posting, built for people who make apps. You connect LinkedIn once in Spreadcast and Spreadcast once in your assistant. The difference from a plain posting server is that Spreadcast also makes the post: it designs the picture or the carousel in your app's brand, writes the LinkedIn caption in your brand's voice, and saves the result as a draft for you to approve.
On the LinkedIn side, Spreadcast signs in through LinkedIn's official OAuth flow and asks for three permissions: openid and profile to know who you are, and w_member_social to post for you. Posts go out from the personal profile you connected. It does not use cookies, a browser session or your LinkedIn password, and it does not post to company pages today.
A Spreadcast LinkedIn post can be text alone, text with one picture, text with 2 to 9 pictures, or text with one video of up to 10 minutes. Captions are checked against the 3,000 character limit before anything is saved, and the characters that mean something in LinkedIn's little text format, such as parentheses, are escaped so a caption with "(beta)" in it is not cut short.
The pictures come from the same design code as the Spreadcast app. A single post comes in one of 11 kinds, such as feature, launch, stat or tutorial, in your app's colors, fonts and logo, with a real screenshot of your app in an iPhone frame when your brand kit has one. A carousel is 3 to 8 slides at 1080 by 1350 pixels in one look: a cover, screens of the app and a last slide that sends people to it. On LinkedIn, Spreadcast publishes those slides as a multi image post. It does not export a PDF, so if you want the document carousel format, download the slides and build the PDF yourself.
The caption is written for LinkedIn rather than copied from Instagram. Spreadcast's instructions for LinkedIn ask for a first line that makes one specific statement, then the point in two or three short paragraphs or a short list, then one closing question, in the team's first person, under 1,300 characters and with three hashtags. It never invents numbers, quotes or features that are not in your notes or your app's listing.
Then it stops. Every new connection saves drafts. A draft waits on your Spreadcast calendar until you approve it, and only then does Spreadcast publish it at the planned time. If you choose to let the connection publish as well, the assistant is told to show you the post, the network and the time and ask before it schedules anything. Scheduling and publishing need the Pro plan.
LinkedIn is one of the networks Spreadcast posts to. The same draft can also go to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram and Discord, and YouTube and Mastodon connect too, each with a caption written for that network.
How to Post to LinkedIn From Claude, Step by Step
Claude can add a custom connector on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free is limited to one, according to Anthropic's guide to custom connectors, read on October 16, 2026. These steps set up Claude MCP LinkedIn posting through Spreadcast.
- Step 1
Connect LinkedIn in Spreadcast
In Spreadcast, open Accounts and connect LinkedIn. On LinkedIn's consent screen, sign in with the profile posts should come from and allow it.
- Step 2
Add Spreadcast as a Custom Connector in Claude
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Click the plus Add button and choose Add custom connector. Name it Spreadcast and paste the server address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants. Click Continue, keep Sign in now under Authentication, and click Add. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it once in Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then clicks Connect.
- Step 3
Choose Drafts on the Spreadcast Screen
Claude opens a Spreadcast page. Log in if asked, then pick Make Drafts, which saves posts for you to approve, or Make and Publish, which lets this connection schedule and publish too. Click Connect. Start with Make Drafts.
- Step 4
Switch the Connector On in a Chat
In a new chat, click the plus button at the lower left, open Connectors and switch Spreadcast on.
- Step 5
Ask for the Post
Try: "Read my Spreadcast brand kit, design a carousel about our new offline mode and write a LinkedIn caption for it." Claude may ask before it runs each tool. The slides appear in the chat, followed by the caption.
- Step 6
Approve the Draft in Spreadcast
Open Spreadcast, find the draft on the Dashboard or the calendar, change a word if it does not sound like you, and approve it. Spreadcast publishes it to your LinkedIn profile at the time on the post.
How to Make a ChatGPT LinkedIn Post Through MCP
ChatGPT is stricter. OpenAI's help article on custom MCP servers, read on October 16, 2026, says custom MCP connections with full support, including write actions, are available to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web only. Pro gets read and fetch permissions only, not enough to save a draft, and the article does not offer custom servers to Plus or Free.
- Step 1
Check Your Plan and Role
On a Business workspace, only admins and owners can create and publish a custom MCP server for the workspace. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also grant that permission to chosen members. If you are on Plus or Free, a ChatGPT LinkedIn post through a custom MCP server is not available today: copy the caption from ChatGPT and post by hand, or use Claude.
- Step 2
Add the Server in Plugins
In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server. Enter Spreadcast as the name, and under Connection paste the server address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants.
- Step 3
Pick OAuth and Accept the Warning
Set authentication to OAuth so you sign in with Spreadcast rather than pasting a key. Read the risk warning, tick I understand and want to continue, and select Create as a plugin. ChatGPT lists the tools it found. Sign in on the Spreadcast page that opens and choose Make Drafts.
- Step 4
Mention It in Each Message That Needs It
Start a chat, type @ and pick Spreadcast. OpenAI's article says the app choice applies to that one message, so mention it again when a later message needs Spreadcast. ChatGPT may ask you to confirm before a write action, such as saving the draft.
LinkedIn MCP Server URL for Claude: What to Paste
People search for "linkedin mcp server url for claude" because Claude's Add custom connector form asks for one address and nothing else. The honest answer is that there is no single LinkedIn MCP server URL. LinkedIn does not publish one, so any address you paste belongs to whoever runs that server, and that company or person will hold a working connection to your LinkedIn account.
For Spreadcast, the address is spreadcast.app/api/mcp, starting with https. You do not need to type it: Settings, AI Assistants in Spreadcast shows it with a copy button. When Claude first reaches it without a sign in, Spreadcast answers that a sign in is needed, and that answer is what makes Claude show the Connect step and open the Spreadcast consent page.
If you run an open source server from GitHub, there is usually no URL at all. Those servers run on your computer and talk to Claude Desktop or Claude Code through a config entry, not an address. Using one in Claude on the web means hosting it on a public https address and protecting it, because anyone who finds an open address can call its tools.
Be careful with addresses copied from forum posts, videos or AI answers. Anthropic's guide tells you to connect only to servers built and hosted by organizations you trust, to review the permissions asked for during sign in, and to watch for servers that change their tools after you connect. The URL decides who sits between your assistant and your LinkedIn account.
Why Is My LinkedIn MCP Server Not Posting?
Most failures come back from LinkedIn as a status number. These are the common ones for a posting server built on the official API, from LinkedIn's error handling guide and its versioning page, read on October 16, 2026.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 401, expired access token | LinkedIn sign ins last 60 days, and most apps cannot renew them on their own. | Sign in to LinkedIn again through the server. In Spreadcast, connect LinkedIn again in Accounts. |
| 401, token revoked | Someone removed the app in the privacy settings of your LinkedIn account. | Connect again. LinkedIn says the member has to sign in again to get a new token. |
| 403 Access Denied | The token lacks the permission for that call, such as w_organization_social for a company page post. | Check which products the developer app has and which permissions the sign in asked for. |
| 426, version deprecated | The server sends a LinkedIn API version that has been retired. LinkedIn releases a version each month and supports each for at least one year. | Update the server. For a hosted service that is their job. For a server from GitHub it is yours. |
| 429 Rate Limit | Too many calls, such as more than the 150 a day per member allowed under Share on LinkedIn. | Wait for the next UTC day and look for a loop that repeats the same call. |
| 400 Bad Request | Something in the request is malformed. LinkedIn names bad syntax in the address or body as the most common cause. | If the post text has parentheses, brackets or other symbols, check that the server escapes them for LinkedIn's text format. |
| 500 or 504 | A problem on LinkedIn's side, or a call that took too long to process. | Try again later. LinkedIn tells apps to expect these now and then and to retry. |
| The post is live but few people see it | Not an error. LinkedIn may limit the reach of posts it sees as excessive or automated. | Post at a human pace and edit each draft so it reads like you. |
If the assistant only says the tool failed, ask it to show the full error message. The status number usually points straight at one of these rows.
What to Check Before You Connect a LinkedIn MCP Server
Run through these before you give any server, ours included, a way to post under your name.
| Question | Good answer | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| How does it reach LinkedIn? | Through LinkedIn's API after you sign in on LinkedIn's own consent screen. | It asks for your LinkedIn password, an li_at cookie or a browser profile. |
| Which LinkedIn permissions does it ask for? | Only what posting needs, such as openid, profile and w_member_social for a personal profile. | Read and write access it cannot explain. The MCP security best practices list broad, bundled scopes as a common mistake. |
| Whose name do posts go out under? | It says clearly: your profile, or a company page you manage. | It promises company page posting with no mention of LinkedIn's Community Management review. |
| What happens when the assistant says "post this"? | It saves a draft, or asks you to confirm the exact post, network and time. | It publishes at once with no confirmation step. |
| Can you take access back? | One place lists each assistant connection and removes it at once. | The only way out is to change your LinkedIn password. |
| Is it maintained? | Recent releases, answered issues and a current LinkedIn API version. | No commits for months. LinkedIn retires API versions, and an old one fails on every call. |
Both Claude and ChatGPT add their own checks on top: tool approval prompts in Claude and confirmations for write actions in ChatGPT.
LinkedIn MCP Options Compared
A browser session server from GitHub against Spreadcast, the two ends of the field. The left column comes from the README of the most starred browser session server, read on October 16, 2026.
| Browser session server from GitHub | Spreadcast | |
|---|---|---|
| How it reaches LinkedIn | Drives a logged in browser, or cookies imported from your own browser. | LinkedIn's official API, after you allow Spreadcast on LinkedIn's consent screen. |
| Publishes posts | No posting tool is listed. It reads profiles, jobs, the feed and messages, and sends messages and connection requests. | Text, one picture, 2 to 9 pictures or one video, to your personal profile. |
| Makes the picture | No. | Designs posts in 12 kinds and carousels of 3 to 8 slides in your app's brand, with real app screenshots. |
| Before it goes live | Its README says the message tool sends only after confirmation. It has no drafts, because it does not post. | Saved as a draft. You approve in Spreadcast, or the assistant asks first if you allowed publishing. |
| Account risk | Its own FAQ says accounts using automated tools can be restricted or banned. | Uses the permission LinkedIn documents for tools that post on a member's behalf. |
| Where it runs | On your computer, for Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor. | A hosted address that works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile, ChatGPT on the web, Claude Code and Cursor. |
| Price | Free and open source. | Drafts on Free. Scheduling and publishing on Pro at $29 a month. |
Example Requests for a Claude LinkedIn Post
These use an invented habit tracker called Streakly and an invented founder called Alex. They show what the requests look like, not results from a real account.
| What Alex types | What happens in Spreadcast |
|---|---|
| Turn the 3.2 release notes into a LinkedIn post with a picture. | Reads the new version from the App Store listing, designs the version post with what changed and a Streakly screenshot, writes a LinkedIn caption and saves a draft. |
| Design a 5 slide carousel on how streak reminders work and post it to LinkedIn on Tuesday morning. | Designs 5 slides in Streakly's colors and fonts, writes the caption, and saves a draft planned for Tuesday. With drafts only, it waits for Alex to approve. |
| Write a LinkedIn post about why we cut the onboarding to three screens. No picture. | Writes a text post from Alex's notes, opening with one specific line and ending with a question, without inventing any numbers. |
| Check this caption before you save it. | Runs every check without saving, such as the 3,000 character limit and the 9 picture limit, and reports problems in plain words. |
You never need to name a tool. The assistant picks it from the request.
ChatGPT and Claude Prompts for Writing a LinkedIn Post
These work in ChatGPT or Claude with or without an MCP server. They use the invented app Streakly and its founder Alex. Swap in your own notes and facts.
| What you want | Prompt to paste |
|---|---|
| A post from release notes | Here are Streakly's 3.2 release notes. Write a LinkedIn post from Alex, the founder, about the one change users will notice most. Open with a plain statement of what changed, then two short paragraphs on why we built it, then one question. Under 1,300 characters, no emoji, three hashtags at the end. |
| A lesson post | Write a LinkedIn post about what we learned cutting Streakly's onboarding from five screens to three. Use only the facts in my notes below and add no numbers I did not give you. First person, short paragraphs, no list of tips. |
| Five opening lines | Give me five first lines for a LinkedIn post about our new home screen widget. Each under 120 characters, each a specific claim, none starting with "Excited to share" or "Big news". |
| Carousel slide text | Write the text for a 6 slide LinkedIn carousel on how Streakly's streak reminders work. Slide 1 is the promise in under 10 words, slides 2 to 5 hold one step each in under 25 words, slide 6 says where to download the app. |
| A draft in your own voice | Here are three LinkedIn posts I wrote myself. Describe my tone in five short points, then rewrite the draft below to match it. Keep every fact and cut anything that sounds like an advert. |
| A check before posting | Read this LinkedIn draft as a busy product manager would. Tell me the line where you would stop reading, what is unclear and which claim needs proof. Do not rewrite it yet. |
A request for a viral LinkedIn post returns the hooks everyone else already uses. Your own facts in the first person read better.
Claude LinkedIn Skill or Connector: Which One You Need
Searches for a Claude LinkedIn skill and a Claude LinkedIn connector often come from the same wish, but the two do different jobs. Anthropic's article on skills describes a skill as instructions for how to complete a task, written in Markdown, that Claude loads when the task comes up. Skills work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise with code execution switched on, and Team and Enterprise Owners can give one to the whole organization.
For LinkedIn, a skill is the place for your rules: how long your posts run, which words you never use, how you open and close, the three hashtags you always pick. It cannot post. Posting needs a connector, an MCP server with LinkedIn permission. The same article says the two work together: the connector gives Claude the tools and the skill tells it how to use them well.
With Spreadcast you may not need a skill for the basics. The server already offers Claude each network's writing rules and your brand kit as tools, so a skill is best kept for what only you know, such as topics you stay away from or the way you sign off.
What Spreadcast Does Not Do on LinkedIn
It does not post to company pages. Spreadcast asks LinkedIn only for permission to post as the member who connects, so posts go to a personal profile.
It does not post document carousels. Carousels go to LinkedIn as a multi image post, and there is no PDF export. If you want the document format, download the slides and assemble the PDF in the tool you use for slides.
It does not read LinkedIn numbers. Reading a member's posts and their likes needs a permission LinkedIn restricts to approved users, per the Posts API reference, and post and profile analytics belong to the Community Management API, per LinkedIn's access tiers page. So Spreadcast shows no LinkedIn likes, comments or follower counts, and LinkedIn results are best checked in LinkedIn itself.
It does not read profiles, send messages, send connection requests or reply to comments, the jobs browser session servers are built for.
Spreadcast Plans for LinkedIn Posting From an Assistant
The MCP server is part of every plan. What changes is whether posts can be scheduled and published.
| Plan | Price | What the assistant can do on LinkedIn |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Design posts and carousels, write LinkedIn captions, check them and save drafts. You publish the drafts yourself. |
| Pro | $29 a month | Everything in Free, plus scheduling and publishing to LinkedIn and every other network you connected, once you allow publishing. |
| Studio | $79 a month | Everything in Pro for up to 5 apps, each with its own brand kit, so the assistant designs each app's posts in that app's look. |
Current details are on the pricing page, and the setup for every assistant is on the MCP page. Your Claude or ChatGPT plan is separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official LinkedIn MCP server?
No. On October 16, 2026, LinkedIn publishes no MCP server and no posting connector for Claude or ChatGPT. LinkedIn's app in ChatGPT looks up professionals and does not publish posts. Every LinkedIn MCP server for posting is built by a third party on top of LinkedIn's API.
Can Claude post to LinkedIn?
Yes, through an MCP server that has LinkedIn permission. With Spreadcast connected as a custom connector, Claude can design the picture or a carousel, write the LinkedIn caption and save the post as a draft. You approve it in Spreadcast, and Spreadcast publishes it to your LinkedIn profile.
Can ChatGPT post to LinkedIn?
Only on plans that allow custom MCP servers with write actions. OpenAI's help article lists ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web, and says Pro users get read and fetch permissions only. On Plus or Free, copy the post from ChatGPT and publish it by hand.
What is the LinkedIn MCP server URL for Claude?
There is no official one, because LinkedIn does not run a server. The address you paste belongs to the service you choose. For Spreadcast it is spreadcast.app/api/mcp, starting with https, shown with a copy button in Settings, AI Assistants. Open source servers from GitHub usually run on your computer and have no URL.
Are LinkedIn MCP servers on GitHub safe to use?
It depends on how they reach LinkedIn. Servers that use LinkedIn's API with your own developer app stay inside LinkedIn's rules. Servers that drive a logged in browser or use your cookies are the kind of automation LinkedIn's prohibited software page says can get an account restricted or shut down.
Can a LinkedIn MCP server post to my company page?
Only if it has the w_organization_social permission and you hold a role such as Administrator or Content Admin on the page. That permission comes with LinkedIn's Community Management API, which developers apply for, per LinkedIn's access tiers page. Spreadcast posts to personal profiles today.
Can it post a LinkedIn carousel?
LinkedIn's organic carousel is a document post, usually a PDF. Spreadcast designs carousels of 3 to 8 slides in your brand and posts them to LinkedIn as a multi image post. It does not export a PDF, so for the document format, download the slides and build the PDF yourself.
How many LinkedIn posts can a server make in a day?
LinkedIn's Share on LinkedIn guide sets 150 requests a day per member and 100,000 per app. Uploading a picture and creating the post each count, so the real number of posts is lower. For reach, posting at a human pace matters far more than the limit.
