Hootsuite Alternative for App Founders With Nothing to Schedule

Hootsuite is a social media suite sold per user from $99 a month, and you still make every post. Spreadcast is a Hootsuite alternative for app founders: it designs your app's posts and publishes them for $29 a month flat.

Free to start · No credit card · No manual posting

Hootsuite Alternative: The Short Answer

Hootsuite is a full social media management suite: a publishing calendar, an inbox, listening, analytics and team approvals in one product. Hootsuite's plans page lists Standard at $99 per user per month on annual billing, as of October 2026. Whichever plan you buy, the calendar starts empty, and someone on your side still creates every post in the composer.

Spreadcast is the Hootsuite alternative for an app founder or indie developer whose feed is empty because nobody makes the posts. It checks your public App Store listing every day. When a new version, a new 5 star review or a rating milestone appears, Spreadcast designs the post, writes a caption for each network and publishes it to the accounts you connected.

The price gap is easy to check. One Standard seat is $99 a month, or $1,188 a year, before a single post exists. Spreadcast Pro is $29 a month, or $290 a year on yearly billing, with design, captions and publishing to 8 networks included. That is $70 a month less, and the free plan drafts every post for one app, so you can judge the designs before you pay.

Keep Hootsuite if you answer customer messages in a shared inbox, track what people say about your brand, or run a team that needs approvals. Few cheaper tools match its inbox and its listening, and an app team can run it beside Spreadcast for exactly that. If you pay for the suite and open only the calendar, or you have no app on the App Store, a plain scheduler covers the calendar for a fraction of the price. The best Hootsuite alternatives roundup compares nine options with current prices.

Hootsuite Pricing vs Spreadcast Pricing in October 2026

Hootsuite sells seats in four plans, so every person who logs in needs one, and each post is still yours to make. Spreadcast charges a flat price per plan, based on how many apps you have, with the posts designed and published for you. The Hootsuite figures come from Hootsuite's plans page and assume annual billing in US dollars before tax.

Spreadcast Studio$79 a month flat: $948 a year5 apps, each with its own brand, and 3 seats. Design, captions and publishing includedFive apps

Hootsuite prices checked on October 11, 2026. Yearly figures are the monthly price times 12. Standard, Professional and Advanced can also be billed monthly at a higher rate per user, which the plans page does not show. Three Standard seats cost $297 a month (3 times $99), and Spreadcast Studio includes 3 seats for $79. Spreadcast plans are on the pricing page.

Is Hootsuite Free? What the Trial and the Discounts Cover

No. Hootsuite has no free plan. It closed the free tier on March 31, 2023, according to BetaKit's report on the end of Hootsuite's free plan, and the plans page lists only paid plans as of October 2026.

What you get is a 14 day free trial of Standard, Professional or Advanced. Hootsuite says you need no credit card to start and you are not charged when the trial ends. Trial accounts can publish 10 to 20 posts a day per organization, depending on the plan, and bulk scheduling is switched off until you pay.

Registered nonprofits can apply for Hootsuite's nonprofit discount, which lists Standard at $39, Professional at $79 and Advanced at $159 per user per month on annual billing.

Is Hootsuite Worth It? What 8 Networks Cost for One App

Hootsuite is expensive for a small team because it is priced per person, and each seat carries the inbox, the monitoring and the analytics whether or not that person opens them. One Standard seat holds 10 social accounts, so a founder who posts to 8 networks fits in one seat. Here is that seat next to the other ways to cover 8 networks. Spreadcast is ours and comes first, because its rows are the only ones where the posts are made for you.

Is Hootsuite Worth It? What 8 Networks Cost for One App
SetupPer monthPer yearWho makes the posts
Spreadcast Pro, 1 app on 8 networks$29$290Spreadcast designs each post, writes a caption for each network and publishes it
Spreadcast Studio, 5 apps and 3 seats$79$948Spreadcast, for each of the 5 apps in its own brand
Hootsuite Standard, 1 seat$99$1,188You, in the composer
Hootsuite Standard, 2 seats for a founder and a cofounder$198$2,376The two of you
Buffer Essentials, 8 channels$48$576You, in an editor of your choice
Metricool Starter with one X account$35$420You, in an editor of your choice

The arithmetic, from list prices on October 11, 2026, before tax. Spreadcast Pro on yearly billing is $290, ten months at $29, and Studio is $79 × 12 = $948. Hootsuite on annual billing: $99 × 12 = $1,188, and 2 seats × $99 × 12 = $2,376. Buffer on monthly billing, from Buffer's pricing page: 8 channels × $6 = $48, and $48 × 12 = $576. Metricool on monthly billing, from Metricool's pricing page and Metricool's guide to the X add on: $25 + $10 = $35, and $35 × 12 = $420. Hootsuite is worth the money when you use the inbox and the monitoring every week. If you would open only the calendar, one seat costs $898 a year more than Spreadcast Pro ($1,188 minus $290) and every post is still yours to make.

Hootsuite vs Spreadcast: Feature by Feature

Both products publish posts to social networks on a schedule. The difference is who makes the post and what you pay before one exists, so those rows come first.

Hootsuite Features by Area, and What Spreadcast Does in Each

Hootsuite's product pages describe six areas. Each card says what Hootsuite does there in specifics, as of October 2026, and what an app founder gets from Spreadcast in the same area.

  • Publishing and the Calendar

Hootsuite's publishing page describes a calendar or list view of organic, paid, published and scheduled content, bulk scheduling of up to 350 posts at once, and recommended times shown as a heat map and inside the calendar. Canva and Adobe Express templates open from the Composer. Every one of those posts starts with you. Spreadcast has a calendar as well, and it fills it: each post it designs takes the next free slot, and you drag a post to another day when the timing is wrong.

  • Wisdom, the AI Assistant on Every Plan

Every Hootsuite plan runs on Wisdom. The publishing page says it generates posts and images for any network, remixes past posts and suggests captions and hashtags. You still open it, prompt it and decide what the post is about, because it has no way to know that version 2.4 went live this morning. Spreadcast starts from that event. It reads the release notes on your listing, cuts them to two or three points and builds the image from your own screenshot and the colors in your icon.

  • The Inbox

Hootsuite's inbox page covers comments and private messages from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X and TikTok in one view, with saved replies and the option to tag a teammate and assign a message so two people do not answer the same customer. A generative AI chatbot and the Advanced Inbox are Enterprise add ons. Spreadcast publishes posts and leaves the replies in each network's own app. If messages arrive all day, this is the part of Hootsuite to keep.

  • Social Listening

Every plan monitors Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora, plus podcasts, news sites, blogs and forums, according to Hootsuite's listening page. The deeper product runs on Talkwalker, which Hootsuite acquired in April 2024. It is Enterprise only and adds Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, Pinterest and Twitch. That page gives its history as 13 months in one place and over 2 years in another, so ask sales which figure applies to your quote. Spreadcast watches one source, your own App Store listing, and turns a new 5 star review or a rating milestone there into a post.

  • Analytics and Reports

Hootsuite's analytics page lists Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube and Threads, a best time to post for each network, and benchmarking against up to 20 competitors depending on the plan. Facebook data refreshes once a day and Instagram every 48 hours. Every plan exports overview reports as PDF or PPTX, and CSV and XLSX exports start on Advanced, per Hootsuite's guide to exporting an Analytics report. Spreadcast shows basic stats for each post it publishes. For charts and client reports, keep Hootsuite or a lower cost analytics tool such as Metricool.

  • Networks and Integrations

Hootsuite's integrations page lists 10 networks and over 100 apps and integrations, with Salesforce reserved for Enterprise customers. TikTok needs a TikTok Business account there. Spreadcast asks for one thing, the link to your App Store listing, and publishes to 8 of those 10 networks.

Can Hootsuite Post to TikTok, Bluesky, Stories and Facebook Groups?

These are the questions people ask before they pay for a seat. Each row comes from Hootsuite's own help center and product pages, read on October 17, 2026. Where two Hootsuite pages disagree, the row says so.

Can Hootsuite Post to TikTok, Bluesky, Stories and Facebook Groups?
Network or formatWhat Hootsuite publishesLimits to know
Instagram posts, stories and reelsPosts, stories and reels, and a single video in a post publishes as a reel. With direct publishing you can add a first comment, a location, tagged users and collaborators, per Hootsuite's guide to Instagram postsLink stickers, other stickers and trending audio cannot be added from Hootsuite. For those, Hootsuite sends the post to your phone and you finish it in Instagram
Facebook PagesPosts, stories and reels to Pages, per Hootsuite's guide to Facebook postsA story takes one image or one video of 60 seconds or less, and a reel one video of 90 seconds or less. Event posts and polls are not supported, and Facebook does not allow publishing to personal profiles
Facebook groupsHootsuite's integrations page still says you can schedule to groups you admin, and to profilesIts Facebook guide, updated on September 28, 2026, describes Pages only and rules out profiles, and Buffer's group guide says Meta changed its Groups API in April 2024. Test a group post during the trial before you rely on it
TikTokVideos with captions of up to 2,200 characters, scheduled as far ahead as you like, per Hootsuite's guide to TikTok videosNeeds a TikTok Business account. TikTok Stories are not supported, captions take no links or line breaks, and TikTok allows 15 posts per account every 24 hours
BlueskyScheduled posts with up to four images, one GIF or one video, per Hootsuite's publishing pageCaptions stop at 300 characters, hashtags and links included
YouTubeScheduled videos that go public at the time you set, with results tracked next to your other networksListed on the integrations page, which also mentions an approval workflow for videos
Google Business ProfileUpdates and replies to reviews through Hootsuite's Google My Business appIt is an app from the directory rather than a built in network
Threads, LinkedIn and PinterestThreads posts on every plan, LinkedIn profiles and Pages, and Pins to public, private and shared boardsA LinkedIn Page has to be connected by its Super Admin, as the section on connection problems below explains

Spreadcast publishes still image posts, with a caption written for each network, to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook Pages, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, and posts that carry a video to YouTube.

How Spreadcast Works for an App Founder

Setup takes one link and a few account connections. After that the work is checking a post now and then, or nothing.

  1. Step 1

    Paste Your App Store Link

Go to the start page and paste the link to your app. Spreadcast reads the public listing: the icon, the screenshots and the colors in the icon. There is no SDK to install and it never asks for your developer account.

  2. Step 2

Connect the Networks You Post To

Connect each account once. You can pick any of the eight networks, and each one gets its own caption written for that network.

  3. Step 3

Spreadcast Checks the Listing Every Day

A new version becomes an update announcement with the release notes cut down to two or three points and your own screenshot. A new 5 star review becomes a review post. Reaching 1,000 ratings or a 4.8 average becomes a thank you post. In a week with no update it drafts a post about one feature. The app update announcement examples show what a good one looks like.

  4. Step 4

Approve Each Post or Turn On Autopilot

Choose approve first, where every post waits for one tap, or full autopilot. One kind of post always waits: a post that quotes a reviewer's words. Apple's ratings and reviews guidance allows customer reviews in marketing only with the reviewer's permission, so Spreadcast holds those until you say yes. A post that shows only your rating can go out by itself.

  5. Step 5

The Post Goes Out in Its Slot

Each post takes the next free slot in the calendar and is published within minutes of that time. Drag it to another day if the timing is wrong.

A Worked Week: Your App Ships Version 2.4 on Tuesday

Take an invented app. Streakly, a habit tracker, ships version 2.4 on Tuesday with a new home screen widget. The Hootsuite column follows Hootsuite's product pages, and the Spreadcast column follows the Pro plan with approve first switched on.

Then you open Canva inside the Composer, place a screenshot of the widget and export the imageSpreadcast cuts the release notes to two or three points and sets them on your own screenshot, in the colors of your icon, as a 1080 by 1350 image

Then you pick one of the recommended times or schedule by handA caption for each of the 8 networks is already written. You approve with one tap, and the post takes the next free slot
Thursday, a new 5 star review arrivesYou see it only if you check your reviews. Turning it into a post is another round in the Composer and CanvaSpreadcast drafts a review post. It quotes the reviewer, so it waits for your approval. A post that shows only the rating can go out by itself
Friday, comments on the announcementThis is where Hootsuite earns its seat: comments and messages from six networks sit in one inbox, and a teammate can be assigned to answerYou answer in each network's own app, or in Hootsuite's inbox if you keep a seat for support
The week after, no releaseThe calendar is empty again until you plan and make the next postSpreadcast drafts a post about one of Streakly's features, so the feed keeps moving

Streakly and its release are invented for the example. The 300 character figure for Bluesky is from Hootsuite's publishing page. Review posts follow Apple's ratings and reviews guidance, which allows a customer's review in marketing only with that customer's permission. Good release notes make a better announcement, and the app release notes examples show how to write them.

Hootsuite Pros and Cons in 2026

Every point below comes from Hootsuite's own plans, product and help pages as read in October 2026, so each advantage and disadvantage can be checked.

Hootsuite Pros and Cons in 2026

For an app founder, the advantages that count sit in the inbox and listening rows. The disadvantage that counts is making posts, and Spreadcast exists for that row: it designs the post and publishes it when your listing changes.

How to Use Hootsuite: A First Week for Beginners

Hootsuite moved to a new layout called Social OS on June 24, 2026, and Hootsuite's Social OS notice explains that the old Plan, Create and Ads areas now live in an app called Perch. Older tutorials show menus that no longer exist, so this is the order we would follow on a trial, with the names Hootsuite uses now. Perch, Nest and Lumen also connect to AI assistants, which our Hootsuite MCP server guide explains.

  1. Step 1

    Start the 14 Day Trial

Hootsuite's plans page offers 14 days of Standard, Professional or Advanced with no card and no automatic charge at the end. Trial accounts can post 10 to 20 times a day per organization and cannot bulk schedule, so keep large uploads for after you subscribe.

  2. Step 2

    Connect Your Social Accounts

Go to Account, then Social accounts and teams. To add a Facebook Page you need an Admin or Editor role on it, and a LinkedIn Page needs its Super Admin, per Hootsuite's guide to why accounts disconnect. TikTok needs a Business account. Standard holds up to 10 social accounts, so count yours before you pick a plan.

  3. Step 3

Create Your First Post in Perch

Open Calendar or select Create a post, choose the accounts, write the caption and add media from your computer, Canva, Adobe Express or Google Drive. Wisdom, the AI assistant, can enhance, shorten or lengthen the caption and check spelling. Then choose Post now or Schedule, per Hootsuite's guide to Facebook posts.

  4. Step 4

Answer Comments and Messages in Nest

Nest is the new name for the inbox. Hootsuite's inbox page says it gathers comments and private messages from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X and TikTok, with saved replies and automated replies to cut repeat typing.

  5. Step 5

    Watch Your Brand in Lumen

Lumen is the listening app. Every plan monitors your brand and your competitors, and Professional adds trend forecasts up to 90 days ahead. Set up searches for your app's name and your two closest competitors on day one, so the trial shows you real mentions.

  6. Step 6

Read Analytics and Export a Report

Open Analytics, pick a report and a date range, and select Export. Every plan exports overview reports as PDF or PPTX, and CSV and XLSX exports start on Advanced, per Hootsuite's guide to exporting an Analytics report. Export one before the trial ends, so you have a baseline whichever tool you keep.

Hootsuite Not Working? Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn Disconnections

Most reports of Hootsuite not working turn out to be a disconnected social account. Hootsuite's guide to reconnecting an account says that while an account is disconnected, its scheduled posts do not publish, its streams do not load and its analytics stop collecting. Check Hootsuite's status page first to rule out an outage, then go to Account, Social accounts and teams, open the Disconnected tab and select Reconnect. Log out of every social network in your browser first, so you reconnect the right account.

The cause depends on the network. Hootsuite's guide to why accounts disconnect lists a changed password, Hootsuite being removed from the account's list of connected apps, and the person who connected the account losing their admin role. Facebook also cuts off third party tools after a login it does not recognize or a security check, and that disconnects every Page and every linked Instagram Business account at the same moment. Sharing one login between several people or devices is a common trigger.

When Hootsuite is not connecting to Instagram, the usual reason is that the account was switched from Business to personal, or that the person reconnecting has no Admin or Editor role on the linked Facebook Page. Hootsuite's guide to Facebook and Instagram errors adds two checks: the user who added the Page needs two factor authentication on Facebook, and every Page has to be selected for Hootsuite in Facebook's business integrations settings.

When Hootsuite is not connecting to LinkedIn, look at the calendar. LinkedIn tokens expire every 365 days, and LinkedIn also expires a token when nobody has used LinkedIn inside Hootsuite for 60 days. A Page disconnects when the person who added it stops being its Super Admin, and the reconnect guide says Hootsuite does not support an emoji in a LinkedIn Page name, so remove it before you try again. Every tool that publishes through these networks, Spreadcast included, depends on the same kind of token, so an occasional reconnect is normal.

Is Hootsuite Safe and Legit?

Yes. Hootsuite has run since 2008, says on its about page that it has customers in more than 200 countries, and documents its security program in public. Hootsuite's Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type II audits, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 27701 certificates, FedRAMP authorization, UK Cyber Essentials, GDPR and CCPA, along with yearly third party penetration tests and a way to report vulnerabilities.

The same page posts security notices, which is a good sign in itself. In November 2025 Hootsuite reported that a breach at its vendor Gainsight exposed one integration token, and that its review found no customer data accessed or taken. In September 2025 it warned about fake GitHub repositories that used the Hootsuite name to push malware to Mac users, and advised against downloads from unverified links.

That warning matters for anyone searching for a free Hootsuite download for PC: get Hootsuite only from hootsuite.com or the official app stores. On October 17, 2026 Hootsuite's App Store listing showed 4.7 stars from about 34,300 ratings in the United States. Legit is a separate question from good value, and our Buffer vs Hootsuite comparison has the review site scores and the most common complaints.

Hootsuite vs Buffer, Sprout Social, Metricool, Later and Meta Business Suite

These are the comparisons people search most. Spreadcast is ours and comes first. In the other five, both sides are tools where you make every post, so they are compared on price and on what each plan includes, from each vendor's own pages in October 2026.

  • Hootsuite vs Spreadcast

Hootsuite gives a team a calendar, an inbox and listening for posts the team makes, from $99 per user a month. Spreadcast designs the posts about your app and publishes them for $29 a month flat, and its free plan drafts every post. Pick Spreadcast when the feed is empty because nobody makes posts. Add a Hootsuite seat beside it when a team answers customers on social networks.

  • Hootsuite vs Buffer

Buffer charges per channel. Buffer's pricing page lists Essentials at $6 a month per channel billed monthly, or $5 billed yearly, and a free plan for 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Eight channels cost $48 a month against $99 for one Hootsuite seat. Buffer lets you reply to comments, and its pricing page lists no social listening and no competitor benchmarking. Choose Buffer for a simple queue on a small budget and Hootsuite for monitoring. The Buffer comparison has the detail.

  • Hootsuite vs Sprout Social

Both are sold per seat. Sprout Social's pricing page starts with Essentials at $79 per seat a month on annual billing, or $99 billed monthly, with 5 profiles. Its inbox begins on Standard at $199, and listening is a paid add on. Hootsuite Standard includes an inbox, monitoring and 10 social accounts at $99. Sprout's trial runs 30 days against Hootsuite's 14. On price, Hootsuite is the cheaper route to an inbox. Choose Sprout for its reporting when the budget allows.

  • Hootsuite vs Metricool

Metricool's pricing page has a free plan for 1 brand and Starter from $25 a month for up to 5 brands, with unlimited analytics history and PDF and PPT reports. It tracks up to 100 competitor profiles on paid plans, where Hootsuite Standard benchmarks 5. X costs an extra $10 a month per account. Hootsuite answers with listening, message routing and approvals for a team. One person who wants charts should choose Metricool. See the Metricool comparison.

  • Hootsuite vs Later

Later's pricing page lists Starter at $18.75 a month on yearly billing: 1 user, one profile on each of 8 networks and 30 posts per profile a month. Those networks are Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat, so X is missing. Later suits a creator who plans Instagram and TikTok first. Choose Hootsuite if you post to X or need monitoring. The Later comparison covers its planning tools.

  • Hootsuite vs Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is free on desktop and in its mobile app. It schedules posts, stories and reels to Facebook and Instagram and has an inbox and insights for those two. If Facebook and Instagram are your whole plan, it replaces a paid scheduler. Hootsuite adds the other eight networks, monitoring and competitor benchmarking, and that is what the $99 buys.

Cheaper and Free Hootsuite Alternatives by Need

The best Hootsuite alternative depends on which part of Hootsuite you used. If you have an app and the missing part was the posts themselves, start with the first card. Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026.

  • Posts About Your App, Designed and Published for You: Spreadcast

If the problem was never the calendar, a cheaper calendar changes nothing. Spreadcast designs the posts and publishes them: an update announcement when a version goes live, a review or milestone post when your rating moves, and a feature post in a week with no release. The free plan drafts every post for one app. Pro is $29 a month flat, with design, captions and publishing to 8 networks included. One Hootsuite Standard seat is $99 a month, and 8 channels on Buffer Essentials are $48 (8 times $6 on Buffer's pricing page), both before anyone has made a post.

  • A Cheaper Hootsuite Alternative for Scheduling: Buffer or Metricool

For posts you make yourself, these two cover the calendar for less. Buffer is free for up to 3 channels and then $6 a month per channel billed monthly, so ten channels cost $60 a month. Metricool is free for 1 brand with 20 posts a month, and Starter, from $25 a month, adds full analytics history and PDF or PowerPoint reports. Both are compared with Hootsuite in the section above.

  • Another Full Suite

If you still need an inbox and reporting for a team, compare Sprout Social and Agorapulse in the roundup of Hootsuite alternatives. Both are priced per user, and both have their own trade offs.

When to Choose Hootsuite Instead of Spreadcast

Hootsuite earns its price in the five situations below. In the first four, an app team can keep Hootsuite for that job and let Spreadcast design and publish the recurring app posts.

  • You Answer Customers on Social Networks

Hootsuite collects comments and private messages from your accounts into one inbox. Professional adds automated replies, and Advanced lets you assign a message to a teammate and route it by skill. A support team needs that, and the inbox reads the same accounts Spreadcast publishes to.

  • You Need Social Listening

Every Hootsuite plan monitors your brand and your competitors. Professional adds 30 days of conversation search and trend forecasts up to 90 days ahead, and Enterprise keeps 13 months of history. If knowing what people say about you is part of the job, a listening tool is the purchase.

  • Several People Publish and One Has to Approve

Advanced has approval workflows, internal comments on drafts and reports on how the team performs. A marketing department needs that. For a founder and a cofounder, one tap approval in Spreadcast and the 3 seats on Studio are enough.

  • You Report on Many Accounts

Professional removes the cap on social accounts, builds custom reports, sends them on a schedule and benchmarks you against up to 20 competitors. An agency reporting to clients needs that. Spreadcast shows basic stats for each post, so the client reports come from Hootsuite.

  • Your Product Is Not an iOS App

Spreadcast is built for apps on the App Store, and Google Play is next on the list. A shop, a clinic or a web product should choose a scheduler and a design tool.

Can You Use Hootsuite and Spreadcast Together?

Yes, and for an app company with a support team it makes sense. Spreadcast publishes straight to your social accounts. Hootsuite connects to the same accounts, and its inbox is built to collect the comments and private messages that arrive there, so your support team keeps answering in the tool it already knows. Nothing needs to be integrated.

You can also run it the other way. On the free plan Spreadcast hands you each post as an image to download. Upload it to Hootsuite's planner and schedule it there if you want every post, yours and Spreadcast's, in one calendar with one approval flow.

Using both is not worth it for a solo founder with no message volume. In that case Hootsuite's seat is paying for an inbox nobody opens, and the gap is the posts themselves. Spreadcast Pro alone is $29 a month against $99 for the seat. The article on why a scheduler does not fix an empty feed explains the difference, and the guide to promoting an app on social media covers what to post.

How to Cancel a Hootsuite Subscription and Switch

Cancel last. Hootsuite keeps your data when you cancel and deletes it when you remove a social account or delete the Hootsuite account, so the order of the steps matters.

  1. Step 1

Export the Calendar and a Report Before Anything Else

Open Calendar and select Export. Hootsuite's guide to exporting the content calendar says a CSV file reaches up to 365 days back or forward and carries each post's author, media type and links to its media, and a PDF covers 1 week. The media links and the download link expire one week after the export, so save the images right away. Export an overview report as PDF or PPTX too, because follower and engagement history does not move to another tool.

  2. Step 2

Start the Replacement While Hootsuite Still Runs

If you have an app, paste its link at the start page. The free Spreadcast plan drafts the next posts, so you can put them next to the ones you were making by hand. For a plain scheduler, Buffer and Metricool both have free plans. Connections do not transfer between tools, so sign in to each network again from the new one.

  3. Step 3

    Cancel From Plan and Billing

Hootsuite's guide to managing a plan and account gives the path: Account, then Plan and billing, then Update subscription. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid or trial period, and in an organization only a Super Admin can do it. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel there at least 24 hours before the next billing date.

  4. Step 4

Cancel the Plan, Keep the Account

Canceling keeps your account information and data, and Hootsuite restores them if you restart. Deleting the account is immediate and cannot be undone: scheduled content is gone and that email address cannot be used for a new Hootsuite account. Removing a single social account deletes its scheduled content, streams and analytics data, per Hootsuite's article on removing a social account.

  5. Step 5

    Watch the Plan Change Trap

A downgrade starts at the end of the paid period: the same guide, updated October 14, 2026, says a change to a plan with fewer features takes effect when your current paid period ends. Moving from a legacy plan to one of the current Suite plans is different, because the guide says you need to create a new account on the Suite plan. Export your scheduled messages and reports first if that is your route to a lower bill.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hootsuite free?

No. Hootsuite ended its free plan on March 31, 2023, as BetaKit reported at the time. As of October 2026 you can try Standard, Professional or Advanced free for 14 days without a credit card, and then you need a paid plan to keep using it.

How much does Hootsuite cost per month?

Hootsuite's plans page lists Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user per month, all on annual billing, as of October 2026. Enterprise is a custom quote. Every extra person needs another seat, and paying month by month costs more per user.

What is a cheaper alternative to Hootsuite?

If you have an app on the App Store, Spreadcast. Pro is $29 a month flat with the posts designed, captioned and published to 8 networks, against $99 for one Hootsuite Standard seat on annual billing. That is $70 a month less. For scheduling posts you make yourself, Buffer and Metricool are the usual picks. Buffer's pricing page shows Essentials at $6 a month per channel billed monthly ($5 billed yearly), so 8 channels cost $48 a month, and Metricool's pricing page shows Starter from $25 a month for up to 5 brands. Neither has listening as deep as Hootsuite's.

Is there a free Hootsuite alternative?

Yes. If you have an app, the free Spreadcast plan designs a post for every update, 5 star review and rating milestone, ready to download. For scheduling posts you make yourself, Buffer has a free plan for up to 3 channels and Metricool has a free plan for 1 brand, both with limits on how many posts you can schedule. The list of Hootsuite alternatives has a table of free plans.

What is the best Hootsuite alternative for an app developer?

Spreadcast, if your feed is empty because nobody has time to make posts. It designs a post for every App Store update, 5 star review and rating milestone, writes a caption for each network and publishes it, for $29 a month flat. If a designer already hands you finished posts every week, a low cost scheduler is enough. The page for mobile apps shows the whole flow.

Does Spreadcast have a social inbox or social listening like Hootsuite?

Those are jobs for Hootsuite. Spreadcast designs and publishes your app's posts and shows basic stats for each one. It does not include an inbox, social listening or competitor benchmarking. If you need those, keep Hootsuite or another suite beside it, and let Spreadcast produce and publish the app posts.

Is Hootsuite worth it for one person?

It can be, if that one person handles customer messages, monitors the brand and reports on results every week. One Standard seat is $1,188 a year at the listed annual rate. If you would use only the calendar, a scheduler with a free plan does that job. If what you lack is the posts themselves, Spreadcast Pro is $290 a year on yearly billing with every post designed and published.

How do I cancel my Hootsuite subscription?

Go to Account, then Plan and billing, then Update subscription, as Hootsuite's guide to managing a plan and account describes. You keep the plan until the paid or trial period ends. Export your calendar first, and cancel the plan instead of deleting the account, because deletion cannot be undone.

Can Hootsuite post to Facebook groups?

Hootsuite's integrations page says it can, but its own Facebook guide, updated in September 2026, describes publishing to Pages only, and Meta changed its Groups API for outside tools in April 2024. Test a group post during the free trial. Meta Business Suite, Meta's free tool, still lists Facebook groups as a destination in Meta's cross posting guide.

Why is Hootsuite not connecting to LinkedIn?

LinkedIn tokens expire every 365 days, and after 60 days without LinkedIn activity inside Hootsuite. A Page also needs its Super Admin to connect it and cannot have an emoji in its name, per Hootsuite's guide to why accounts disconnect.
