Pinterest MCP Server for Posting Pins From Claude and ChatGPT

A Pinterest MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT make a Pin and put it on a board for you. Pinterest's own MCP is an advertiser alpha, so this page covers what the Pinterest API allows, what GitHub servers risk, and how Spreadcast designs Pins in your app's brand and saves them as drafts.

What a Pinterest MCP Server Does

A Pinterest MCP server is a program that hands an AI assistant a set of Pinterest tools. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor all speak the Model Context Protocol, so once a server is connected the assistant can call tools such as "list my boards" or "create a Pin". You describe the Pin in plain words, the assistant picks the tool, and the server makes the request to Pinterest.

People who search for a Pinterest MCP want one of three things: to publish Pins without opening Pinterest, to research images and trending keywords, or, for advertisers, to ask about campaigns. Each needs a different server. This page is about publishing.

A Pin is stricter than a post on most networks. It always lives on a board, it carries a title next to the description, and the link is the point of it, because people tap a Pin to reach the page behind it. A good Pinterest MCP server handles all three.

For the wider field, our roundup of the best social media MCP servers compares every scheduling vendor with a server, and the Spreadcast social media MCP server page covers every network it posts to. The same questions for other networks are on the Instagram MCP server page and the LinkedIn MCP server page. This page stays on Pinterest.

What MCP Is, in Four Minutes

If the protocol itself is new to you, this short explainer from IBM covers the parts that matter here: the host, the client and the server that holds the tools.

Roy Derks of IBM shows how an assistant reaches outside tools through an MCP server. A Pinterest server is one of those tools, with boards and Pins in place of a database. Video by IBM Technology on YouTube

Is There an Official Pinterest MCP Server?

Yes and no, on October 16, 2026. Pinterest does run something called Pinterest MCP, but it is not a way to post Pins. Pinterest's newsroom post from June 17, 2026 describes it as infrastructure that connects Pinterest to the copilots and agent tools advertisers use, with access to campaign, analytics and keyword insights. Pinterest says it is developing it with alpha partners and names PMG, Pacvue, Dentsu, Havas, Innovid by Mediaocean and Omnicom's Jump450. The post does not mention organic Pins and does not name Claude or ChatGPT.

Pinterest's own blog post on AI for marketers, from June 29, 2026, calls it an open source MCP server but links no code repository and no developer documentation. Advertisers who want in are told to contact their Pinterest team. So for a founder who wants to put a Pin on a board from a chat, there is no official server to connect today, and no public address to paste into an assistant.

Claude's side is just as empty. A search for Pinterest in Claude's connector directory returned no connectors when we checked. Every Pinterest MCP server that publishes Pins is built by someone other than Pinterest, on top of Pinterest's public API.

So the first test for any server is how it reaches Pinterest: through the API after you approve access on Pinterest's own screen, or through a hidden browser or your password. Only the first stays within Pinterest's rules.

Pinterest and ChatGPT: Is There an Official Integration or Plugin?

Not from Pinterest. A search for Pinterest in ChatGPT's plugin directory on October 16, 2026 returned one result, and it was Tailwind, a Pinterest scheduling company, not Pinterest. Tailwind's listing in the directory names Tailwind App as the developer and describes drafting Pins from webpages, managing boards and board sections, reviewing recommended posting times and scheduling Pins. If you already pay for Tailwind and want a ChatGPT Pinterest integration that schedules, it is the most direct option in the directory.

Without any app, ChatGPT can still write a Pin title and description, suggest board names and brainstorm Pin ideas. It cannot see your boards or publish, so you copy the words and make the Pin in Pinterest by hand.

A custom MCP server closes that gap, with a catch on the ChatGPT side. OpenAI's help article on custom MCP servers gives full support, including write actions, only to Business and Enterprise or Edu on the web. Pro users get read and fetch permissions, which cannot save a Pin.

Does Pinterest Have an API, and Is the Pinterest API Free?

Yes, Pinterest has a public API, now on version 5, and anyone with a business account can register a developer app for it. The permissions it hands out cover user accounts, boards, Pins, ads, catalogs and billing, each as a read or a write scope, per Pinterest's authentication guide. Posting needs only a small part of that: Pinterest's guide to creating boards and Pins shows a POST to the v5 pins endpoint with an image link as the media source and the board the Pin should sit on.

On price, we found no fee anywhere in Pinterest's developer pages. Pinterest's access tiers page describes Trial and Standard access with no charge attached, and nothing in the documentation mentions a paid plan or a bill. The cost is time: a review for each tier, the daily caps on Trial access, and a token that has to be refreshed before it lapses, all covered below.

A hosted Pinterest MCP server skips that work, because its own app already went through review.

What Pinterest API v5 Lets a Tool Post in October 2026

Any Pinterest MCP server that publishes, whoever built it, ends up calling the Create Pin endpoint. These rows come from Pinterest's developer documentation and from Pinterest's published API description on GitHub, version 5.28.0, read on October 16, 2026.

What Pinterest API v5 Lets a Tool Post in October 2026
WhatPinterest's rule
The callA POST to the v5 pins endpoint creates a Pin on a board or board section owned by the account that signed in. The reference says it is meant for publishing new content made by the user, not for saving other people's content.
PermissionsThe call needs boards:read, boards:write, pins:read and pins:write, the same four scopes Pinterest's guide to creating boards and Pins lists before you begin.
BoardEach Pin belongs to one board or one board section. A tool has to know the board's id before it can publish, so listing boards is step one for any server.
TitleUp to 100 characters.
DescriptionUp to 800 characters.
LinkUp to 2,048 characters. This is where a tap on the Pin leads.
Alt textUp to 500 characters, read by screen readers.
ImageFrom a public image link or as base64 data. The link must be reachable by Pinterest, because Pinterest fetches the file itself.
VideoThree steps: register an upload, post the file, wait until Pinterest reports it processed, then create the Pin with a cover image. The guide warns that a missing or invalid cover image gets a 400 error. Video Pins cannot be made in the sandbox, per Pinterest's sandbox page.
Several imagesThe API description still lists a source with 2 to 5 image links, but Pinterest's guide says organic Pin formats are now simplified to image or video, so treat multi image Pins as an ad format.
AI disclosureAn optional field where the creator declares AI_MODIFIED or SYNTHETIC_PERFORMER content.
Account limitsUp to 2,000 boards and up to 200,000 Pins per account, per the same guide.

Trial Access vs Standard Access: Why Your Own App's Pins Stay Hidden

This is the part most GitHub READMEs leave out. When you register a Pinterest developer app, it starts on Trial access. Pinterest's page on access tiers says Trial access can create Pins and boards, but marks both as visible only to the creator. All Pins and boards made with Trial access are sandbox entities, which you can see on your own profile and nobody else can.

So a self hosted Pinterest MCP server on a fresh app looks like it works. The assistant reports success, the Pin shows up when you open Pinterest, and no follower ever sees it.

Getting Pins in front of people needs Standard access, and Standard needs a review. The same page asks for a screen recording of your app completing an action through the API, including the OAuth sign in, even if you are the only person who will ever use it. Pinterest lists the reasons it turns requests down. One of them matters for MCP servers in particular: an app that collects login credentials or Pinterest session cookies instead of using an OAuth token may be denied.

There is a newer wrinkle as well. Pinterest's developer changelog says apps registered on or after September 14, 2026 may get a 403 error named PINNER_DATA_ACCESS_DENIED when they read a board or a Pin of a non business user without Pinterest's approval. The affected calls include getting a board, listing Pins on a board and getting a Pin. Pinterest says not to retry the call in a loop and to ask your Pinterest account manager for access. Apps registered before that date are not affected.

None of this applies to a hosted service whose own app already holds Standard access. Its Pins go out as normal public Pins.

Pinterest API Trial Access Denied: Why Requests Get Rejected

Requests fail at both tiers, and Pinterest's access tiers page names the usual causes. A Trial request is turned down when the privacy policy is inaccurate, does not load in full, is not public, or sits on a domain that has nothing to do with your company or app. It is also turned down when the app description is incomplete or unclear.

A Standard request usually fails on the demo video. Pinterest rejects videos that skip the sign in step, that show a sign in flow other than Pinterest's own authorization screen, and that show wireframes or a general tour of your product instead of a live connection to Pinterest. It accepts a recording made in a terminal or in Postman, and the recording should make clear that no sensitive information is stored.

For a self hosted MCP server with no screens of its own, a terminal recording is the simplest route: start the server's sign in, approve access on Pinterest's page, create one Pin and open it. Put your privacy policy on a page of your own domain before you apply, even if you will be the only user. Pinterest emails its decision, and the same page suggests allowing a few days before you follow up on an appeal.

Pinterest API Access Token: How Long It Lasts and How to Refresh It

A Pinterest MCP server that worked last month and fails today has usually lost its token. These lifetimes come from Pinterest's authentication guide, read on October 16, 2026. An expired or invalid token answers with HTTP 401 and API error code 2.

Pinterest API Access Token: How Long It Lasts and How to Refresh It
TokenHow long it lastsWhat to do
Access token from the authorization code flow30 daysExchange the refresh token for a new access token before the 30 days run out.
Continuous refresh token60 days, and it can be renewed without endRefresh at least once every 60 days and the server never needs a new sign in. Apps made on or after September 25, 2025 get this kind automatically.
Legacy refresh token365 days, then it stops for goodNo longer supported. Apps made before September 25, 2025 have to ask for continuous refresh to switch.
Client credentials token30 days, with no refresh tokenWorks only for the app owner's own account, needs two factor authentication on that account, and cannot reach some sensitive endpoints. Request a new one when it expires.

Pinterest also lists a changed username or password, and a token revoked after it leaked on GitHub, as reasons a token stops working. In each case the fix is to sign in again through the authorization flow.

Pinterest API Rate Limits for Pins and Boards

Rate limits come in two layers, per Pinterest's rate limits page: one universal limit for every call, and a limit per category of call. Creating a Pin falls in the org_write category.

Pinterest API Rate Limits for Pins and Boards
CategoryTrial accessStandard access
Every call, universal1,000 requests a day100 requests a second per user per app
org_write: creating, editing or deleting boards, board sections and Pins300 requests a day per app100 requests a minute per user per app
org_read: reading accounts, boards, sections and Pins1,000 a day per app1,000 a minute per user per app
org_analytics: account data and top Pins1,000 a day per app60 a minute per user per app
trends_read: trending keywords1,000 a day per app60 a minute per user per app

Pinterest says all rate limits are subject to change without notice. Each response carries headers with the limit and what remains, and you can ask Pinterest support for a change.

Pinterest Pin Limit per Day: What Pinterest Actually States

People search for a Pinterest pin limit per day because they fear an automated tool will get them flagged. The answer has three parts.

First, Pinterest publishes no daily cap on how many Pins a person may create. We found none in its help center, its developer documentation or its developer guidelines. The daily figures that circulate online, such as 15, 25 or 50 Pins a day, come from bloggers and tool vendors, not from Pinterest.

Second, the API has caps, and they apply to the tool rather than to you. Under Trial access, creating Pins shares 300 requests a day across the whole app. Under Standard access it is 100 a minute for each user of each app. Be wary of numbers in READMEs that Pinterest does not publish: one popular Python Pinterest MCP server states 10 Pins a minute and 250 a day as Pinterest's limits for organic posting, and neither figure appears on Pinterest's rate limits page.

Third, Pinterest's own tools have limits of their own. Pinterest's page on scheduling Pins lets a business account schedule a Pin up to 30 days ahead and hold up to 10 scheduled Pins at a time. And every account has lifetime limits of 2,000 boards and 200,000 Pins.

What Pinterest does say plainly is how a tool should behave. Pinterest's developer guidelines say that when an app lets people schedule Pins, the person must choose each Pin to be published. The same guidelines rule out features that let people start actions automatically without considering each one, and features that make it easier to spam Pinterest. For an AI assistant, the safe reading is simple: an assistant can propose a week of Pins, and a person should look at each one before it goes out.

Image and Video Specs a Pin Has to Meet

The API takes the file, but Pinterest's feed decides how it looks. These come from Pinterest's product specs, read on October 16, 2026. Every size and format for Pins, with examples, is on the Pinterest Pin generator page.

Three Kinds of Pinterest MCP Server on GitHub and Beyond

Search GitHub for a Pinterest MCP server and the results sort into three kinds by how they reach Pinterest. That decides what they can do and what they put at risk. Star counts and dates below were read on October 16, 2026.

  • Browser and Scraping Servers

The most starred project named for Pinterest MCP, terryso's mcp pinterest on GitHub with about 40 stars, does not post at all. Its README lists tools to search Pinterest images by keyword, read an image's details and download results, using a headless browser. That is research, not publishing, and it is the kind of access Pinterest's developer guidelines rule out when they ban any automated means or form of scraping to take information from Pinterest.

  • API Servers You Run Yourself

These use the official API with a developer app you register. collactivelabs' Pinterest MCP server lists tools to get the user, list and create boards, and list and create Pins, and asks for a localhost redirect address. Its README says it speaks MCP over Socket.IO, and it had no commits since May 2025. clugtu's pinterest mcp is a Python server with create, update and delete tools, analytics and a bulk create tool, and asks for a Pinterest business account. Both start on Trial access.

  • Hosted Services With an Address

Companies whose own Pinterest app already has access offer an MCP address or an assistant app on top. You approve them on Pinterest once, and nothing runs on your computer. Tailwind's ChatGPT app and Spreadcast sit here. Check whether it shows you each Pin before it goes out and how it picks the board.

The Risks of Unofficial Pinterest MCP Servers

The first risk is quiet failure. A server built on your own Trial app publishes Pins nobody else can see, and nothing in the assistant's reply tells you so. Check one Pin from a second account, or from a browser where you are signed out, before you trust a week of them.

The second is your account. Scraping servers drive Pinterest's website, which is what Pinterest's developer guidelines forbid when they rule out automated scraping and soliciting login credentials. A server that asks for your Pinterest password or a session cookie is the same pattern Pinterest names as a reason to deny Standard access. Bulk tools carry their own risk, because the guidelines expect a person to choose each Pin that is published.

The third is where the keys live. Self hosted servers keep your app secret and your access token in a local file or a config entry. The MCP security best practices warn that local servers may have direct access to your system, can be reached by other processes on the same machine, and run with the same privileges as the client. Anyone who can read that file can create and delete Pins on your account.

The fourth is upkeep. Pinterest keeps changing its API, as the September 14, 2026 change to reading Pins shows, and with a self hosted server every fix is your job.

Why Is My Pinterest MCP Server Not Posting?

Most failures come from the developer app or its token, not from the assistant. These are the cases Pinterest's documentation describes, matched to what you see in the chat.

How to Run an Open Source Pinterest MCP Server From GitHub

If you would rather run your own server than use a hosted one, this is the safe path through the official API. Commands differ by project, so read its README, but these steps are the same for every server.

  1. Step 1

Pick a Server That Uses the Pinterest API

Look for OAuth, API v5 and the pins:write scope in the README. Walk away from anything that searches Pinterest with a headless browser, asks for your Pinterest password, or has gone a year without a commit.

  2. Step 2

Set Up a Business Account and Accept the Developer Terms

Pinterest's connect app guide asks you to log in or create a business account, verify its email address, and accept the Developer Terms of Service on the My apps page. Pinterest's page on business accounts says the account is free and that you can convert a personal account and switch back at any time.

  3. Step 3

Register the App and Wait for Trial Access

Select Connect app and fill in the form. The name must include at least 3 Latin letters or numbers and cannot contain the word Pinterest. Pinterest reviews requests each business day and emails you the result, then shows the app ID and secret on My apps.

  4. Step 4

Add the Redirect Address and Scopes

Add the redirect address from the server's README, often a localhost one, and request boards:read, boards:write, pins:read and pins:write. Pinterest's authentication guide says apps created on or after September 25, 2025 get a continuous refresh token that lasts 60 days and can be refreshed indefinitely.

  5. Step 5

Connect It to Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor

Most open source servers run on your computer and join your assistant through a config entry. Claude and ChatGPT on the web need a public https address instead, which means hosting the server and protecting it.

  6. Step 6

Apply for Standard Access Before You Rely on It

Until Standard access is approved, every Pin stays visible only to you. Record your app signing in through OAuth and creating a Pin, then choose Upgrade on the app card in My apps and upload the video.

How Spreadcast Posts Pins From Claude and ChatGPT

Spreadcast is a hosted Pinterest MCP server for people who make App Store apps. You connect Pinterest once in Spreadcast and Spreadcast once in your assistant. What sets it apart from a plain posting server is that it also makes the Pin: it designs the picture in your app's brand, writes the Pinterest title and description, and saves the result as a draft for you to approve.

On the Pinterest side, Spreadcast signs in through Pinterest's OAuth screen and asks for five permissions: user_accounts:read to know which account it is, boards:read and boards:write for boards, and pins:read and pins:write for Pins. It never sees your Pinterest password and does not use a browser session.

The picture comes from the same design code as the Spreadcast app. A single post comes in one of 11 kinds, such as feature, launch, tutorial or stat, in your app's colors, fonts and logo, with a real screenshot of your app in an iPhone frame when your brand kit has one. Designs are 1080 by 1350 pixels, a 4:5 shape. That is shorter than Pinterest's recommended 2:3, so the whole picture shows in the feed, though it stands a little less tall than a 2:3 Pin would.

The words are written for Pinterest rather than copied from Instagram: two or three sentences full of the words people search for, under 450 characters, no hashtags, plus a separate title. When the assistant works from your App Store news, the moment it reads includes the store address, so the Pin can link to your App Store page.

Then it stops. Every new connection saves drafts, and a draft waits on your Spreadcast calendar until you approve it. If you choose Make and Publish when you connect, the assistant is told to show you the Pin, the network and the time and ask before it schedules or publishes. Scheduling and publishing need the Pro plan.

The same draft can also go to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, Telegram and Discord, and YouTube and Mastodon connect too, each with text written for that network.

How to Post a Pin From Claude, Step by Step

Claude can add a custom connector on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free is limited to one, per Anthropic's guide to custom connectors, read on October 16, 2026. These steps set up Pinterest MCP in Claude through Spreadcast.

  1. Step 1

    Connect Pinterest in Spreadcast

In Spreadcast, open Accounts and connect Pinterest. On Pinterest's consent screen, sign in with the account the Pins should go to and allow access.

  2. Step 2

Add Spreadcast as a Custom Connector

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Click the plus Add button and choose Add custom connector. Name it Spreadcast, paste the address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants, and click Continue. Keep Sign in now under Authentication and click Add. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it in Organization settings and each member then connects.

  3. Step 3

Pick Make Drafts on the Spreadcast Screen

Claude opens a Spreadcast page. Log in if asked, then choose Make Drafts, which saves Pins for you to approve, or Make and Publish, which also lets this connection schedule and publish. Start with Make Drafts and click Connect.

  4. Step 4

Switch the Connector On in a Chat

In a new chat, click the plus button at the lower left, open Connectors and switch Spreadcast on.

  5. Step 5

    Ask for the Pin

Try: "Read my Spreadcast brand kit, design a tutorial post on setting a daily reminder, and write a Pinterest title and description that use the words people search for. Link it to my App Store page." Claude may ask before it runs each tool. The picture appears in the chat, then the title and description.

  6. Step 6

    Choose the Board and Approve

Open the draft in Spreadcast. Pick the board in the Pinterest settings, since the assistant cannot see your board list, change a word if needed, and approve. Spreadcast publishes the Pin at the time on the post.

How to Make a ChatGPT Pinterest Pin Through MCP

Writing Pins through a custom server needs a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace on the web, per OpenAI's help article. On Plus or Free, ask ChatGPT for the title and description and make the Pin in Pinterest by hand, or use Claude.

  1. Step 1

    Check Your Role

On a Business workspace, only admins and owners can create and publish a plugin for a custom MCP server. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also grant that permission to chosen members.

  2. Step 2

    Add the Server in Plugins

In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server. Name it Spreadcast and, under Connection, paste the address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants.

  3. Step 3

Pick OAuth and Accept the Warning

Set authentication to OAuth so you sign in with Spreadcast rather than pasting a key. Tick I understand and want to continue, select Create as a plugin, and review the tools ChatGPT found. Sign in on the Spreadcast page that opens and choose Make Drafts.

  4. Step 4

    Mention It in the Message

Type @ and pick Spreadcast. OpenAI's article says the choice applies to that one message, so mention it again when a later message needs a new action. ChatGPT may ask you to confirm before it saves the draft.

How to Add a Pinterest MCP Server to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor

Coding assistants read a config entry instead of a connector screen. Each one below takes the Spreadcast address, spreadcast.app/api/mcp with https in front, plus either a browser sign in or a key. A key saves drafts only until you switch on Can Publish Posts for it.

  1. Step 1

    Make a Key in Spreadcast

Open Settings, AI Assistants and create a key. Leave Can Publish Posts off while you test.

  2. Step 2

    Add It to Claude Code

Run claude mcp add with the http transport, a name such as spreadcast, the address, and a header that reads Authorization: Bearer followed by your key. Claude Code's MCP guide says a server is saved for the current project unless you pick the user scope, which makes it available in every project. To sign in with Spreadcast in the browser instead, leave the header out and run /mcp inside Claude Code.

  3. Step 3

    Add It to Codex

OpenAI's Codex MCP guide keeps servers in config.toml inside the .codex folder of your home directory. Add a table named mcp_servers.spreadcast with url set to the address and bearer_token_env_var naming an environment variable that holds your key. For a browser sign in, leave the key out and run codex mcp login spreadcast.

  4. Step 4

    Add It to Cursor

Cursor's MCP guide reads mcp.json from the .cursor folder in your project, or from the one in your home folder for every project. Add a server with url set to the address and an Authorization header holding Bearer and your key. Cursor can fill the key in from an environment variable, so it never has to sit in the file.

  5. Step 5

Ask for a Pin and Approve It

Try: "Design a Pin about Streakly's streak calendar, write the Pinterest title and description, and save it as a draft." Then open the draft in Spreadcast, pick the board and approve it.

Find the Words People Search Before You Prompt

A Pin is found through search, so the best prompt starts with the words people already type. Pinterest's own tutorial on its Trends tool shows how to find them.

A replay of Pinterest's live demo of the revamped Trends tool in the US and Canada. Note two or three rising phrases near your app's topic and paste them into your prompt. Video by Pinterest Business on YouTube

ChatGPT Pinterest Prompts and Claude Prompts That Work

These use an invented habit tracker called Streakly and an invented founder called Alex. They show how a request should look, not results from a real account. The same prompts work in ChatGPT without a server if you only want the words.

ChatGPT Pinterest Prompts and Claude Prompts That Work
What Alex typesWhy it works
Write a Pinterest title under 100 characters and a description under 450 for a Pin about building a morning routine with a habit tracker. Use these phrases from Pinterest Trends: morning routine ideas, habit tracker printable. It gives the limits and the real search phrases, so the words match what people type instead of what sounds clever.
Design a tutorial post showing how to set a daily reminder in Streakly, then write the Pin title and description. Link it to our App Store page. One clear topic, a real screen of the app, and a link. A Pin with nowhere to go wastes the tap.
Give me ten Pin ideas around "habit tracker ideas" that a person would save, each with a one line title.Pinterest is a place people plan, so ideas worth saving beat announcements. Pick the best three and design those.
Suggest five board names for a habit tracker account, each named the way people search.Boards are found through search too. A board called Habit Tracker Ideas is easier to find than one called Our Stuff.
Check this Pin before you save it.Runs every Spreadcast check without saving: the title length, one picture per Pin, a cover for video and a working link.

You never need to name a tool. The assistant picks it from the request.

ChatGPT Pinterest Boards: What an Assistant Can Do With Boards

Every Pin needs a board, so boards come up in almost every Pinterest chat. Pinterest's page on entities explains the shape: boards hold Pins on a common theme, boards can have sections, and each Pin belongs to one board or one section. A Pin can still appear on more boards later through saving, which Pinterest recommends for curating so accounts do not hit their limits.

An assistant is good at the thinking part: planning boards around the phrases your audience searches and sorting Pin ideas into them. For an app, a few boards built around the jobs it does, such as morning routines, beat one board named after the app.

Doing it is where servers differ. Open source API servers usually include tools to list and create boards, and Tailwind's ChatGPT app lists and creates boards and sections. In Spreadcast you pick the board in the editor when you approve the Pin. Left empty, it goes to the account's first board.

For the strategy behind boards and Pins for an app, our guide to Pinterest for app founders covers what to pin and how often, and our comparison of Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn helps decide whether Pinterest deserves your time at all.

How does it reach Pinterest?Through API v5, after you approve access on Pinterest's own consent screen.A headless browser, your password or a session cookie.
Will other people see its Pins? The service's app has Standard access, so Pins are public.A self hosted app still on Trial access, where Pins are visible only to you.
Which scopes does it ask for?Only what posting needs, such as boards and pins read and write.Ads, catalogs or other scopes it cannot explain. The MCP security best practices list broad, bundled scopes as a common mistake.
What happens when the assistant says pin this?It saves a draft, or asks you to confirm the Pin, board and time.It publishes at once, or offers to bulk create dozens of Pins in one go.
Can you take access back? One place lists each assistant connection and removes it at once. The only way out is deleting the developer app or changing your password.

Claude and ChatGPT add checks of their own: tool approval prompts in Claude and confirmations for write actions in ChatGPT.

What Spreadcast Does Not Do on Pinterest

It does not post several pictures in one Pin. A Pinterest post in Spreadcast is one picture or one video, so a carousel designed for Instagram cannot go to Pinterest as it is. Use one slide, or design a single post for the Pin.

It does not list or create boards from the chat. The board is picked in the Spreadcast editor, and the assistant leaves it to the account's first board.

It does not fill alt text or Pinterest's AI disclosure field. Spreadcast designs are built from your real screenshots, fonts and colors. If you attach a picture made with an AI image tool, know that TechCrunch reported Pinterest reads image metadata and runs its own classifiers to put an AI modified label on such images, whatever fields the posting tool sends.

It does not read each Pin's numbers. Spreadcast records your Pinterest followers, following and Pin count every day, but not impressions, saves or clicks per Pin. Check those in Pinterest Analytics, which comes with a free business account.

It does not search Pinterest, read other people's Pins or create ads. Spreadcast is built for publishing your own Pins.

What the AI Modified Label on Pinterest Means for Your Pins

Pinterest puts an AI modified label on image Pins it thinks were made or edited with generative AI. In its April 30, 2025 post on the Pinterest Business Community, Pinterest said the label appears at the bottom left when someone opens an image Pin up close, that it comes from reading the image's metadata plus classifiers that look for AI content without obvious markers, and that those classifiers are not always right. Creators who think a Pin was labeled by mistake can appeal through Pinterest's Help Center.

Viewers can act on the label as well. A later Pinterest post on the same forum, dated October 22, 2025, describes a choice under refine your recommendations in settings that lets people see fewer generative AI Pins in each supported category. It reached Android and desktop first and iOS over the following weeks.

For an app maker this is a reach question. People who chose to see fewer AI Pins will see fewer of the Pins that carry the label, so a Pin built from real app screenshots and your own fonts and colors is the safer bet than one made with an image generator.

How to Schedule Pinterest Posts for Free

Pinterest's own scheduler costs nothing. With a free business account, Pinterest's scheduling page lets you choose Publish at a later date when you make a Pin on the website, or set a date in the app, up to 30 days ahead. You schedule one Pin at a time and can keep up to 10 waiting. Once a Pin is scheduled you can still change its date, title, board, description and link, but not the picture or the video.

That covers a few hand made Pins a week, but not designed Pins, more than 10 in the queue, or the same post on other networks.

On Spreadcast's Free plan the assistant designs Pins, writes their titles and descriptions and saves drafts, all without charge. Scheduling and publishing from Spreadcast need Pro. Spreadcast publishes each Pin through the API at the time set on the post, so the 10 Pin queue of Pinterest's own scheduler does not apply.

Spreadcast Plans for Posting Pins From an Assistant

The MCP server is part of every plan. What changes is whether Pins can be scheduled and published.

Spreadcast Plans for Posting Pins From an Assistant
PlanPriceWhat the assistant can do on Pinterest
Free$0Design Pins, write Pinterest titles and descriptions, check them and save drafts. You publish the drafts yourself.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an official Pinterest MCP server?

Not for posting Pins. Pinterest MCP is an advertiser tool in alpha with named agency partners, built around campaign, analytics and keyword insights. Every Pinterest MCP server that publishes Pins is built by a third party on Pinterest's API v5.

Is there a Pinterest ChatGPT plugin?

Not from Pinterest. On October 16, 2026, a search for Pinterest in ChatGPT's plugin directory showed Tailwind's app, which drafts and schedules Pins, and no app from Pinterest itself. A custom MCP server such as Spreadcast works on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web.

Can Claude post Pins to Pinterest?

Yes, through an MCP server with Pinterest access. With Spreadcast connected as a custom connector, Claude can design the Pin, write its title and description and save it as a draft. You pick the board and approve it in Spreadcast, and Spreadcast publishes it.

How many Pins can I post per day?

Pinterest publishes no daily limit for people. Its API limits apply to tools: under Trial access, creating Pins shares 300 requests a day per app, and under Standard access it is 100 a minute per user, per Pinterest's rate limits page. Accounts can hold up to 200,000 Pins and 2,000 boards.

Why can only I see the Pins my own Pinterest app created?

Because new developer apps get Trial access, and Pinterest's access tiers page says Pins and boards created with Trial access are visible only to their creator. Public Pins need Standard access, which Pinterest reviews from a video of your app's sign in flow.

Do I need a Pinterest business account?

To register a developer app, yes, per Pinterest's connect app guide. To post through a hosted service, the API also works for personal accounts. A business account is free and adds Pinterest Analytics and scheduling inside Pinterest.

Can an MCP server post a carousel Pin?

Pinterest's guide says organic Pins are now image or video. Spreadcast posts one picture or one video per Pin, so for a carousel designed for Instagram, use one slide or design a single post for Pinterest.

What is the Pinterest MCP server URL for Claude?

There is no official one, because Pinterest runs no public posting server. The address you paste belongs to the service you pick. For Spreadcast it is spreadcast.app/api/mcp, starting with https, shown with a copy button in Settings, AI Assistants.
