Canva vs Adobe Express: The Short Answer

Canva and Adobe Express are both template editors that run in a browser and on a phone, and both have a free plan. As of October 2026, Canva Pro costs $18 a month or $144 a year for one person in the US, according to Canva's pricing page, and Adobe Express Premium costs $9.99 a month, according to Adobe's pricing page. Choose Canva for the larger library (over 1.6 million templates on the free plan), for documents, whiteboards, sheets, websites and email design in the same account, and for offline editing. Choose Adobe Express for the lower price, a scheduler that is part of the free plan, Firefly image generation that Adobe describes as commercially safe, and files that pass to and from Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Neither tool wins everywhere. The free plans differ mostly in what they hold back: Canva Free has no scheduling, no Magic Resize and no background remover, while Adobe Express Free has no brand kit, no resize to several formats and one account per social network in its scheduler. On paid plans Canva gives more room (100 GB of storage and 5 Brand Kits on Pro) and Adobe gives a lower bill.

The gap is widest for teams. Canva Business is $25 a month per person, or $250 a year, with no seat minimum. Adobe Express Teams is $7.99 a month per license on an annual plan, with a 2 seat minimum. For 10 people that is $2,500 a year on Canva (10 times 250) against $958.80 on Adobe (10 times 7.99 times 12). The pricing sections below show every sum.

A note on who is writing: we make Spreadcast, which is neither of these. It designs social posts for an app from its App Store listing and publishes them, and it gets one section near the end. Everything else on this page is about Canva and Adobe Express, taken from the two vendors' own pricing, help and policy pages on October 13 and 14, 2026.

Canva prices are from Canva's pricing page with the country set to the United States, read with the billing switch in both positions. Adobe's US dollar prices are the figures Adobe's pricing page loads for the United States. Opened from a browser in Europe on the same day, that page showed euros with VAT (12.29 euros a month for Premium), so expect local prices outside the US. Adobe also showed a first year offer of $4.99 per Teams license.

The AI Pass price is from Canva's AI Pass help page: 100 US dollars per person a month, as an add on for Pro, Teams, Business and Nonprofits plans. Three separate Canva Pro accounts would cost $432 a year (3 times 144), but Pro is for one person and has no shared workspace, so it is not a team plan.

Canva Pro vs Adobe Express Premium: The Rules Behind the Prices

Canva Pro is strictly a plan for one person. The FAQ on Canva's pricing page says only one person can use a Pro account and points anyone with a team to Canva Business. The older Canva Teams plan is closed to new sign ups and upgrades, and existing subscribers keep it until they switch or cancel. Paying yearly saves $72 on Pro (216 minus 144) and $50 per person on Business (300 minus 250).

Canva Business bills by the head but flexibly. Canva calls it pay as you grow: you pay only for members who accept an invitation, and the bill adjusts monthly, or quarterly on an annual subscription. During a Business trial you can invite team members without being charged. There is no trial of Enterprise.

Adobe Express Premium is month to month. The plan card on Adobe's pricing page reads no annual commitment, billed monthly, and the 30 day trial is not charged if you cancel before it ends. Teams is the opposite: an annual subscription paid monthly with at least 2 seats, so the lower price per license comes with a year of commitment.

Many people already have Adobe Express without knowing it. Adobe's help page for the Premium plan says Premium is included with Creative Cloud Standard, Creative Cloud Pro, most Creative Cloud Single App plans and every Acrobat Studio subscription. The help page for the Free plan adds that Acrobat Standard, Pro and Premium subscriptions come with Adobe Express Free. On the day we checked, Adobe's pricing page listed Creative Cloud Pro at $69.99 a month on an annual plan, with a student price of $19.99 a month for the first year.

Two warnings about the small print. Canva's AI allowance during a trial stays at the Free level until the paid plan starts. And Canva's FAQ mentions a Pro Lite plan that the US plan cards do not show, so the plans offered to you may differ by country or by where you subscribe.

Canva rows are from Canva's pricing page, its download help page and its Content License Agreement. Templates, Stock Photos, Video, Audio and Fonts

Canva states its library as two round figures on its pricing page: over 1.6 million templates and over 4.7 million stock photos, graphics, fonts, videos and audio files on Free, rising to over 3.6 million templates and over 141 million stock files on every paid plan. Sound effects are a paid feature. Paid plans can also upload their own fonts, and Canva's upload requirements page accepts OTF, TTF and WOFF files, up to 500 fonts per Brand Kit, provided the font's license allows embedding.

Adobe gives more detail and less consistency. The plan cards on Adobe's pricing page say over 100,000 templates on Free and over 200 million Adobe Stock assets on Premium. The comparison table further down the same page says over 268,000 templates on Free and over 519,000 on paid plans, and breaks the stock down: over 500,000 photos on Free against over 350 million on paid plans, about 90,000 against 100,000 stock videos, over 2,000 music tracks on every plan, 11,000 against 15,000 sound effects and over 305,000 icons. That table also notes it reflects information as of May 2026, which may explain the difference. Either way, Canva's template count is several times Adobe's.

Fonts are Adobe's clear advantage. Free includes over 4,000 fonts from the Adobe Fonts collection and paid plans include all of it, over 30,000 fonts. If typography matters to your brand, or your brand font is already an Adobe Font, that alone can decide it.

One caution applies to both libraries: free and paid items sit side by side in the same search results. Adobe's help page for the Free plan notes that Adobe Stock assets occasionally move from free to paid without notice, and suggests applying the Free filter when you search. In Canva, the Content License Agreement tells you to open an item's source information to see which license it carries.

Stronger on templates and stock: Canva. Stronger on fonts: Adobe Express.

How to Add an Adobe Font to Canva, and What the License Allows

Can you use Adobe Fonts on Canva? Not through your Adobe account. Fonts from Adobe Fonts are activated by Creative Cloud on your own computer, and Adobe's font licensing FAQ says the terms do not let you copy the font files into other systems or distribute them in a way that lets others use them, and that the licensing does not cover installing the fonts on a server. Canva only works with font files you upload, so an Adobe Fonts activation cannot be carried across.

There are three legal routes. Buy a desktop license: the same FAQ says desktop licenses for Adobe owned fonts are sold through Adobe's resellers, and for other families through the foundry named on the font's Adobe Fonts page. Look for an open source release: some Adobe families are published openly, such as Source Sans on Adobe's GitHub, released under the Open Font License 1.1 with OTF and TTF files to download. Or pick the closest match from Canva's own library.

Once you hold the file, the upload is short. Canva's font upload page has you open Brand in the side panel, choose a Brand Kit, go to Fonts, select Add to category and then Upload a font. It takes OTF, TTF and WOFF files licensed for embedding, up to 500 per Brand Kit, does not support variable fonts, and needs Pro, Teams, Business, Education or Nonprofits. Upload the bold and italic files as well, or the B and I buttons stay grey.

The reverse trip works the same way: a font file you own goes into an Adobe Express brand kit as OTF or TTF on Premium, per Adobe's brand kit tutorial. Finished work is safe either way. Adobe's FAQ says a PDF or image that embeds an Adobe Font keeps displaying correctly after you cancel Creative Cloud, while editable files that reference the font show a missing fonts warning.

Canva AI vs Adobe Firefly in Adobe Express: Credits, Limits and Training

Both editors now put AI in front of the templates. They meter it differently and make different promises about where the models came from.

Is Adobe Firefly Safer Than Canva AI for Commercial Work?

Adobe makes the stronger statement, and makes it in public. Adobe's page on its approach to Firefly says: "We do not and have never trained Adobe Firefly on customer content." The same page says Firefly models are trained on licensed content such as Adobe Stock and on public domain content whose copyright has expired, that Adobe does not mine the web for training data, and that partner models offered inside Adobe apps are not trained on user content either. Adobe's Firefly page adds that Firefly output carries Content Credentials, a record showing that AI was used.

Canva's position is a setting, not a promise about the training set. Canva's Trust Center says Canva improves its AI features with content from creators in its Creators program who have not opted out (and who are paid for it), with licensed and openly licensed content, and with user content only where that is consistent with your Privacy Settings. For Canva Business, Teams and Enterprise accounts that control is switched off, so their content is not used, and Canva Education content is not used either. On a personal account, open Privacy Settings and check what is switched on.

Indemnity is an enterprise feature on both sides. Canva Shield indemnifies eligible Canva Enterprise customers for AI output at no extra cost, and the pricing page sets a 100 seat minimum. Adobe's Firefly page for business says enterprise customers are indemnified only if the organization has bought the entitlement that carries it. A founder on Canva Pro or Adobe Express Premium has no indemnity from either company.

A separate Adobe setting is easy to miss. Adobe's content analysis FAQ says Adobe may analyze content stored on its servers to improve its products, that this is not used to train generative AI models, and that a personal account can switch it off in its privacy preferences. Business profiles are opted out automatically.

Stronger on stated AI safety: Adobe Express. On allowance for the money there is no clean answer: Adobe gives 250 credits for $9.99 and Canva gives up to 200 uses of its Premium AI tools for $18, but a credit and a use are different units, so neither number converts into the other.

Brand Kits, Brand Controls, Template Locking and Approvals

Canva gives every plan a place to store a brand, and scales it by plan: 1 Brand Kit on Free, 5 on Pro, 100 on Business and 1,000 on Enterprise. Canva's Brand Kit help page describes a kit as the logos, colors, fonts and assets of a team, with up to 2,000 assets in each category. Brand Templates and element locking start on Pro. Brand Controls, which restrict a team to the kit's colors and fonts, start on Business along with approvals, roles and usage reports.

Locks are the part a brand manager will care about. Canva's page on locking Brand Templates says admins and brand designers set locks before a template is published: a full lock stops any edit to an element, and a lighter lock fixes only its position. Locked elements also stay protected when Canva AI generates a new design from the template. One inconsistency to know: the pricing table marks approvals as part of Business, while Canva's approval settings page still describes them as available for Canva Teams and Canva Enterprise.

Adobe Express starts later and costs less. Brand kits (colors, fonts, logos and graphics) begin on Premium, and the free plan can only use branded templates shared with it. On Teams and Enterprise, Adobe's brand restrictions page describes a Lock and Restrictions setting that limits collaborators to the colors and fonts in the brands and libraries linked to a template. Adobe's review and approval page adds a simple review with up to three approvers, or an advanced review routed through Adobe Workfront. A brand check that scans a design for off brand logos, colors and fonts arrived as a beta in August 2026.

Teams on Adobe also get the administration that IT asks for: an Admin Console, the ability to reclaim files when someone leaves, and 180 days of version history against 30 on Premium. Single sign on is an Enterprise feature at both companies.

Stronger for brand control per dollar: Adobe Express, where template locking comes at $7.99 a license against $25 a person. Stronger for many brands in one account and for a single seat with no yearly contract: Canva. If you are still deciding what belongs in a kit, our guide to what a brand kit needs covers it, and the free brand kit generator pulls a palette, typefaces and a logo from any website.

Canva vs Adobe Express for Video Editing: Transitions, Timeline and Length

Is Canva good for video editing? For social clips, yes. Canva's video editing guide describes a timeline with a main track where clips play one after another with no gaps, upper tracks for text and graphics that sit over the video, and separate audio tracks for music, sound effects and voiceover. You trim, split and arrange clips on the timeline itself and zoom in for precise cuts. Adobe Express works in scenes: Adobe's video guide has you trim a scene by dragging its handles, reorder scenes by dragging them, and use an All layers view, still a beta on desktop, to trim and move layers inside a scene.

Does Canva have transitions? Yes, in two places. In a video design you select a clip on the main track, open its more menu and choose Add transition, and Canva notes that this does not work in page mode. In presentations and other designs, Canva's page transitions guide has you hover between page thumbnails, choose Add transition and set a duration from 0.1 to 2.5 seconds, and every design type except Docs can have them. In Adobe Express, Add transition sits in the menu of each scene, next to Split, Copy and Paste.

The free plans are closer on length than most comparisons say. Canva's video download page allows MP4 files up to 30 minutes at up to 1920 by 1080 on Canva Free, and up to 2 hours at up to 3840 by 2160 on paid plans. Adobe's pricing page gives the same 30 minutes on Free and 2 hours on paid plans, with 4K export paid. One Canva detail to know: its upload requirements say uploaded 4K video is stored at 1080p, so a 4K export of uploaded footage is built from the smaller copy.

For a 60 second Reel either editor is enough. Canva's tracks work like a classic video editor, and Adobe's scenes are a simpler model of clips in a row. Spreadcast, which we make, does not edit video at all, so keep one of these two for video whatever you use for still posts.

Adobe Express vs Canva for Social Media: Scheduler Against Content Planner

Both editors can publish what you design. Adobe's Content Scheduler is the more generous of the two, and it is where the free plans differ most.

Canva rows follow Canva's Content Planner help page and its Instagram scheduling guide. Adobe rows follow the Content Scheduler overview, its media specifications, its Instagram connection guide and its analytics page. The TikTok Ads app is from Canva's May 2026 update. Canva's planner page also prints a line saying free users can link one account per platform, which sits oddly beside its statement that scheduling needs a paid plan. Stronger for social media scheduling: Adobe Express.

Integrations, Desktop and Mobile Apps, and Working Offline

Adobe Express is built to sit beside the rest of Adobe. Adobe's overview of Photoshop and Illustrator files gives two routes: add a PSD or AI file as a linked image that updates when the original is edited, or convert it into a layered Express file. Conversion accepts Photoshop files up to 500 MB and Illustrator files up to 100 MB, on a canvas up to 8,000 pixels a side, in RGB only. Linked files are a paid feature and need a Photoshop or Illustrator membership. The pricing page also lists integration with Lightroom and Acrobat, and Creative Cloud Libraries carry shared assets across apps.

Work goes back out the same way. A design downloads as a layered PSD file, a beta feature limited to static visuals, or as an IDML file for InDesign, where supported text and shapes stay editable. A Figma add on imports pages, frames or layers from a Figma file, either as editable elements or as a flattened image.

Canva's ecosystem is wider and looser. The pricing page lists an Apps Marketplace of over 400 apps on every plan, with premium apps and connectors for Canva AI on paid plans and a REST API on Enterprise. Canva's May 2026 update added publishing connections to HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Constant Contact and Flodesk, and a TikTok Ads app. Canva also owns Affinity, the professional photo, vector and layout app. Canva's April 2026 launch post says more than 5 million people have adopted Affinity since it became free, and that designers can now publish brand assets from Affinity straight into a Canva Brand Kit.

On devices, Canva has real desktop apps. Canva's download page offers a Mac app for Intel and Apple chips and lists Windows, iOS, Android and Chromebook. Adobe Express has mobile apps for iOS and Android and an iPad version, but Adobe's install page says plainly that it is a web application with no companion desktop version. You can install it from the browser as a web app on Windows, macOS or a Chromebook, though not from Safari or Firefox.

Offline is Canva's alone. Canva's offline editing guide says you mark designs as available offline while connected, then edit them for up to 14 days without a connection, in desktop browsers, the desktop app and the Android app. The iOS and iPad apps are not supported, you cannot start a new design offline, and AI tools, library content and downloads need a connection.

Stronger inside an Adobe workflow: Adobe Express. Stronger on third party apps, desktop apps and offline work: Canva.

Export Formats Compared: PNG, SVG, PDF, Video, PowerPoint and PSD

What you can download, and on which plan. This matters most when a file has to go to a printer, a developer or a designer who works in other software.

Canva rows are from Canva's download help page. Adobe rows are from Adobe's pricing page, its CMYK download page, its PowerPoint export page and the PSD and InDesign pages linked above. For the pixel sizes each network expects, see our social media image sizes reference. Stronger on free exports and on files for other design software: Adobe Express. Stronger on office formats: Canva.

Does Canva Reduce Image Quality? Getting Sharp Downloads From Both

Canva does not shrink a design on purpose, but several things make a download look soft, and Canva's page on blurry downloads lists them: a design smaller than 500 by 500 pixels, low resolution uploads, a filter with a softening effect, the GIF format, which holds only 256 colors, and the file type. PDF Print is the only Canva format that saves at 300 DPI print quality.

The plan matters as well. On Pro, Business, Education and Nonprofits you can raise the size and quality settings for JPG and PNG, or double a design's dimensions with resize before you download. On Canva Free, changing an MP4 from the default 1080p brings up an upgrade prompt. Canva recommends PNG for social posts and for designs with thin fonts, because Facebook, Instagram and X compress uploads and limit them to 1080p, which softens even a 4K file.

Adobe Express offers fewer controls. Its download panel gives JPEG, PNG, PDF and the other formats in the table above, transparent PNG is on the free plan, and the pages we read describe no quality slider. The fixes are the same in both tools: start the design at the size the network expects, which our social media image sizes reference lists, and use the largest originals you have.

Can You Export Canva to InDesign? A Route Through Adobe Express

Not directly. Canva's download formats include PDF, PNG, SVG, PPTX, DOCX and MP4, and none of them is an InDesign file. If a designer needs to keep working on a Canva layout in InDesign, Adobe Express is the bridge, and every step is on a free Adobe page.

Download the Canva design as a PDF. In Adobe Express, choose the plus icon, then Import from other apps, and drop the file in. Adobe's import page names Canva among the apps it brings files from and converts the PDF into an editable Express file. Then Adobe's InDesign export page, updated on October 7, 2026, describes choosing IDML (Best for InDesign) in the Download panel and opening that file in InDesign, where supported text and shapes stay editable and charts arrive as editable shapes and text.

Three limits come with it. Text with AI effects, brush stroke borders and some filters become image renditions that look right but cannot be edited. The IDML option is not offered while the design holds video, GIFs or animated stickers. And an IDML file stores only font names, so Adobe Fonts have to be activated through Creative Cloud and any uploaded font installed on the computer before the file opens cleanly. Check a few pages after each step before you rely on the result.

Students, Teachers, Nonprofits and Commercial Licenses

For schools the two are level. Canva Education is free for primary and secondary school teachers, their students and qualified districts, includes most premium features, and requires students to be invited by their teacher. Canva states on that page that it never uses student data to train AI models. Colleges are served by a separate offer called Canva Campus. Adobe Express for Education is a free license for primary and secondary schools that gives access to Premium at no cost, with safe search, school owned accounts and single sign on. Adobe's Content Scheduler is not available to those school accounts.

College students fall outside both free programs. Adobe suggests signing in with a university email address to see whether the school already provides Premium, and its student price for the whole of Creative Cloud Pro was $19.99 a month for the first year when we checked. On Canva, a student without a campus license uses Canva Free or pays for Pro.

For nonprofits the two are level again. Canva Nonprofits gives registered nonprofits every Canva Pro premium feature plus team tools, free, for one team of up to 50 users, with extra seats at 50 percent off Canva Enterprise. Government bodies, political organizations and schools are not eligible. Adobe Express for Nonprofits gives the Premium plan free to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations, as a one year subscription for up to 50 people.

Licenses decide what you may do with the result. Canva's Content License Agreement permits advertising, social media posts, packaging and printed goods for resale with no limit on quantity. Pro content is licensed for use in one design at a time and may not be passed on as a standalone file, and unedited Pro content published online outside Canva is limited to 480,000 pixels in total, about 600 by 800. Content labelled as branded or as education content is not for commercial use.

Adobe's rule is similar in spirit. Adobe Stock's license page describes an Adobe Express Limited License: you may use the asset inside an Express design and publish or download that design, but you may not download the asset alone, use it in a new project after your paid plan ends, or put it on merchandise that people would buy for the image itself. Adobe Fonts are licensed for commercial work, including client work and merchandise, according to Adobe's font licensing FAQ.

Stronger for schools and nonprofits: neither, because both are free for them. Whichever you choose, read its license page before you sell anything printed with stock content on it.

What Canva and Adobe Express Do Not Do, and What Changed in the Last Year

Canva's limits, from its own pages. The Content Planner schedules a design to one platform at a time and lists no TikTok, YouTube, Threads or Bluesky. Pro cannot be shared. The AI allowance is given as ranges, and the add on that lifts it costs more than five times the plan itself (100 against 18 a month). Canva's pages also contradict each other in places: the pricing table lists Magic Resize among the tools that do not count toward the AI allowance, while Canva's resize help page says each use of Magic Resize counts against it.

Adobe Express limits, from its own pages. There is no desktop program, and its help pages describe no offline mode. Brand kits are missing from the free plan. Social connections expire every 60 days. TikTok and YouTube accept video only. Teams needs 2 seats and a yearly commitment. And the pricing page disagrees with itself on template counts, stock counts and Premium storage, as the tables above show, so check the figure that matters to you inside the product.

What changed at Canva. On April 16, 2026, at its Canva Create event, Canva announced Canva AI 2.0 as a research preview and launched Canva Offline, a rebuilt Print Shop and a brand connection between Affinity and Canva. In May 2026 it added color themes for Brand Kits and the publishing connections named earlier. Canva Teams stopped taking new sign ups, and Canva Business became the plan for teams.

What changed at Adobe Express. Adobe's list of new features shows YouTube publishing from the scheduler, layered PSD export, brand checks, generated webpages, embedded files and dark mode in the August 2026 release, then transparent video import, borders and emailed event invitations in September. The InDesign export page is dated October 7, 2026. The AI Assistant, which edits a design from prompts, is still a beta limited to personal accounts on desktop.

What we left out. Review sites such as Capterra refused our requests, so star ratings and user quotes are not on this page. Forum threads are not here either, because we could not verify who wrote them. Everything above can be checked on a page the vendor controls.

Who Each Tool Suits: Founders, Small Businesses, Social Media Managers, Students and Agencies

The same facts, sorted by the person choosing.

  • Solo Founders

Adobe Express if the budget is tight and you post to social networks: $9.99 a month, cancel any month, scheduler included. Canva if you also need a pitch deck, a one page website and a document in the same place, which Canva Free already covers.

  • Small Businesses

Count the seats. With 2 or more people who need brand controls, Adobe Express Teams costs $95.88 per license a year against $250 per person on Canva Business. With one person who may add a colleague later, Canva Business has no minimum and no yearly lock.

  • Social Media Managers

Adobe Express for scheduling: several channels in one pass, carousels on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube for video, and 3 accounts per network on Premium. Canva if you manage many accounts, since paid plans connect up to 80 per team. Our Instagram post generator page covers post formats for either.

  • Students and Teachers

In a primary or secondary school both are free, so use the one your school has set up. College students get Canva Free or Adobe Express Free at no cost, and should check whether the university provides Adobe Express Premium.

  • Teams Already on Creative Cloud

Adobe Express. Premium is included with Creative Cloud Standard and Pro, designers can hand over linked Photoshop and Illustrator files, and shared libraries keep assets in one place.

  • Agencies

Canva for volume: 100 Brand Kits on Business covers a client list, and its license lets you transfer a design to a client under a written agreement. Adobe Express when clients send PSD, AI or InDesign files and expect layered files back.

Choose Canva If

  • You Want the Largest Library

Over 1.6 million templates on the free plan and over 3.6 million on paid plans, several times what Adobe lists.

  • You Make More Than Graphics

Docs, Sheets, Whiteboards, Websites, Email and Presentations are part of every plan, so one account replaces several tools.

  • You Work Offline or on a Desktop App

Canva has Mac and Windows apps and offline editing for up to 14 days. Adobe Express needs a connection.

  • You Manage Many Brands

5 Brand Kits on Pro and 100 on Business, with up to 80 connected social accounts per team.

  • You Want One Paid Seat With Team Features

Canva Business sells a single seat with approvals and Brand Controls, billed monthly if you prefer.

Choose Adobe Express If

  • Price Comes First

Premium is $9.99 a month against $18 for Canva Pro, and Teams is $7.99 a license against $25 a person for Canva Business.

  • You Want Scheduling for Free

The free plan's scheduler lists seven networks with 1 account each and allows up to 1,000 posts a month.

  • You Already Use Adobe Software

Premium comes with most Creative Cloud plans, and files move to and from Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom and Acrobat.

  • You Need Clear Terms on AI

Adobe states what Firefly was trained on and that customer content was never used, and Firefly output carries Content Credentials.

  • Typography Matters

Over 30,000 Adobe Fonts on paid plans and over 4,000 on the free plan.

A Third Option If You Have an App: Spreadcast

Canva and Adobe Express share one trait that no table above shows: both are editors, so every post begins with you. You open the app, pick a template, place a screenshot, write the caption and schedule it. Neither tool knows that you shipped version 2.4 on Tuesday or that a 5 star review arrived on Thursday.

Spreadcast, which we make, works the other way round. You paste your App Store link once at the start page. Spreadcast checks the public listing every day, and when it finds a new version, a new 5 star review or a rating milestone, it designs a 1080 by 1350 post from your app icon, your screenshots and colors read from the icon, writes a caption for each network and publishes the post to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video posts. You approve each post with one tap, or switch on full autopilot.

The free plan drafts every post for one app, ready to download with a small Spreadcast mark, so you can judge the designs before paying. Pro is $29 a month flat, with design, captions and publishing to 8 networks included. Canva Pro at $18 a month and Adobe Express Premium at $9.99 buy an editor, and the post is still yours to make. Here is that work as a sum, with the assumption stated openly: if one post takes you 30 minutes and you publish 12 a month, that is 6 hours a month. Spreadcast Pro returns those hours for $4.83 each (29 divided by 6). Measured against Canva Pro the extra cost is $11 a month (29 minus 18), or $1.83 an hour. Measured against Adobe Express Premium it is $19.01 a month (29 minus 9.99), or $3.17 an hour. Change the minutes and the count to your own.

Reach differs too. Of the 8 networks Spreadcast publishes to, Canva's planner lists 4 (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest), and Adobe's scheduler reaches the same 4 with a still image, plus TikTok for video only. Threads, Bluesky and Telegram are on neither list. For a studio with several apps, Spreadcast Studio is $79 a month flat for 5 apps and 3 seats. Three Canva Business seats cost $75 a month (3 times 25) and three Adobe Express Teams licenses cost $23.97 (3 times 7.99), and in both cases a person still designs each post. Our pricing page has the plans, and our article on the real cost of designing social posts by hand goes through the time side in detail.

Spreadcast is not a general design editor. It is built for apps on the App Store (Google Play is next and is not available yet) and it makes still image posts. Stay with Canva or Adobe Express if you have no app on the App Store, if you need video, presentations or print, or if you post to X, which both of their schedulers list and Spreadcast does not. It has no inbox for replies, so pair it with a tool that has one if you answer comments at volume. Many app teams keep one of the editors for one off graphics and let Spreadcast run the recurring posts. Our pages on Spreadcast as a Canva alternative and as an Adobe Express alternative compare it with each in full.

Other Tools People Weigh in the Same Search

Canva vs Adobe Firefly. Firefly is Adobe's generative AI app and the family of models behind the image tools in Express, so this is a comparison of a design editor with an image and video generator. Adobe Firefly Pro at $19.99 a month includes every Express Premium feature except the 250 credits and adds 4,000 credits of its own, which makes it the Adobe plan to weigh against Canva Pro with heavy AI use.

Affinity. If templates feel limiting, Canva's own Affinity is a professional photo, vector and layout app that became free, and Affinity's site says it opens PSD, AI and IDML files with layers preserved. It does not publish to social networks.

Figma, VistaCreate, Kittl and Microsoft Designer are the other names that come up. Our roundup of the best Canva alternatives lists the free plan, the starting price and the limits of nine tools, with Adobe Express among them. For charts and infographics specifically, see the best Piktochart alternatives.

If what you want is for the post to be made for you from a prompt or a link, an editor is the wrong category. The tools in our roundup of AI social media post generators do that for general businesses, and Spreadcast does it for apps.

How to Switch From Canva to Adobe Express

Designs do not move between the two as native files, so a switch means exporting from one and importing into the other. These steps follow Adobe's import help page, which names Canva among the apps you can bring files from.

  1. Step 1

    Decide What Is Worth Moving

Move the templates you reuse, your logo files and your brand colors and fonts. Finished posts that already went out can stay behind as images.

  2. Step 2

Download From Canva as PDF or PPTX

A PDF keeps a design's layout, and a presentation downloads as PPTX. If you are leaving a paid Canva plan, download logos as transparent PNG or SVG first, because both formats need a paid plan.

  3. Step 3

    Import Into Adobe Express

On the Adobe Express home screen choose the plus icon, then Import from other apps, and drop the file in. Adobe accepts PPTX, PDF, PSD, INDD and AI files, one at a time, or up to 30 PDFs in a batch if each is under 100 MB and 100 pages. The file becomes an editable Express file.

  4. Step 4

    Rebuild the Brand Kit

Brand kits do not transfer. On Premium or above, create a brand and add logos, colors, fonts and graphics, or let Adobe extract them from an uploaded image.

  5. Step 5

    Reconnect Your Social Accounts

Scheduled posts stay in Canva's planner. Connect each network in Adobe's Content Scheduler and schedule from there, and cancel the Canva plan only after the last scheduled post has gone out.

How to Switch From Adobe Express to Canva

The same idea in the other direction. Canva's import hub lists PDFs, PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations, Figma files, and Illustrator and Photoshop files.

  1. Step 1

    Download From Adobe Express

Use PDF for most designs and PPTX for presentations. For a design you want to keep in layers, download a PSD, which works for static visuals only.

  2. Step 2

    Check the Size Limits

Canva's upload requirements allow a PDF of up to 300 MB and 500 pages, a PSD of up to 300 MB with no more than 300 image layers, and a PPTX of up to 300 MB.

  3. Step 3

    Upload to Canva

Drag the file onto the Canva home page or into the editor. Canva's page on importing Photoshop and Illustrator files calls that route a beta that works in a desktop browser only, and warns that some elements may be flattened and fonts may be swapped for the nearest match.

  4. Step 4

    Replace Adobe Fonts and Stock

Adobe Fonts and Adobe Stock assets are licensed through your Adobe plan. Pick replacements from Canva's library, or upload fonts you hold a license for, which needs a paid Canva plan.

  5. Step 5

Set Up the Brand Kit and the Planner

Canva Free holds 1 Brand Kit. To schedule from Canva you need Pro or Business, and if you relied on Adobe's free scheduler, compare that cost before you move.

How We Compared Canva and Adobe Express

Every figure here was read on October 13 and 14, 2026, on a page that Canva or Adobe publishes. Canva's pricing page and help center refuse automated requests, so we read them in a browser with the country set to the United States and the currency to US dollars, and switched the billing control to see both the monthly and the yearly price. Adobe's pricing page loads its prices by country: the US dollar figures are the ones it loads for the United States, and the same page opened from Europe showed euros with VAT.

We read the full plan comparison table on each pricing page, the 50 or so help, policy and newsroom pages listed under the sources below, and the license terms for stock content and fonts. Where a vendor's pages disagree, we report both statements and say so.

Some things could not be verified and are left out: the length of Canva's free trial, a yearly price for Adobe Express Premium, the number of free daily AI generations on Adobe Express, user ratings from review sites, and anything about speed or output quality, which needs testing and not reading. Prices and limits change often, and both companies ship monthly, so treat the dates as part of each fact.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Adobe Express better than Canva?

It is better on price and on scheduling, and Canva is better on range. Adobe Express Premium is $9.99 a month against $18 for Canva Pro, and its scheduler is on the free plan. Canva has several times as many templates, plus documents, whiteboards, websites and offline editing.

What is the difference between Canva and Adobe Express?

Both are template editors, so the difference is in the surroundings. Canva is a wider suite with a bigger library and its own apps marketplace. Adobe Express is cheaper, schedules posts for free, generates images with Firefly and exchanges files with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Which is cheaper, Canva Pro or Adobe Express Premium?

Adobe Express Premium. Twelve months cost $119.88 (12 times 9.99) against $144 for Canva Pro on yearly billing, or $216 on monthly billing, as of October 2026 in the US. Both prices are before tax, and both vendors charge different amounts in other countries.

Adobe Express vs Canva for social media: which one schedules posts?

Both do, on different terms. Adobe's Content Scheduler is on every plan and lists Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok. Canva's Content Planner needs a paid plan and lists Facebook Pages, Instagram Business accounts, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr.

Are Canva and Adobe Express free?

Yes, both have a free plan with no time limit. Canva Free includes over 1.6 million templates, 1 Brand Kit and 5 GB, without scheduling or the background remover. Adobe Express Free includes the scheduler with 1 account per network and 5 GB, without brand kits.

Can you use Adobe Fonts on Canva?

Not directly. Adobe Fonts are added through an Adobe account, and Adobe's font licensing FAQ says you may not package or share the fonts. Paid Canva plans let you upload OTF, TTF or WOFF files for fonts you hold a license to embed, so for a font you need in both, buy a desktop license from its foundry.

Is Adobe Express included in Creative Cloud?

Yes for most plans. Adobe's help page for the Premium plan says Premium is included with Creative Cloud Standard, Creative Cloud Pro, most Single App plans and Acrobat Studio. Sign in to Adobe Express and check the plan shown in the header.

Is there an option that makes the posts for me?

If you have an app on the App Store, yes. Spreadcast designs a post for each update, 5 star review and rating milestone from your listing and publishes it to 8 networks, with a free plan that drafts every post. Canva and Adobe Express remain the right tools for anything you want to design by hand.
