What a TikTok MCP Server Does
A TikTok MCP server is a small program that gives an AI assistant tools for TikTok. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor all speak the Model Context Protocol, so once a server is connected the assistant can call tools such as "upload a video", "post these pictures" or "check the status of my post". You ask in plain words, the assistant picks the tool, and the server does the talking to TikTok.
People who search for a TikTok MCP server usually want one of three things. Some want to publish: turn a finished clip or a set of slides into a TikTok post without opening the app on their phone. Some want to read: pull subtitles, view counts and hashtags from other people's videos to study what works. And a growing group wants to run TikTok ads from a chat. Those are three different jobs, served by three different kinds of server, and only one of them is made by TikTok.
This page is about the first job: posting to TikTok from an assistant. It covers what TikTok lets a tool publish, the audit every posting app must pass, what GitHub projects risk, and a Claude and ChatGPT setup with Spreadcast as the worked example, then prompts for captions and hashtags that work in any assistant.
If you want the whole field first, our roundup of the best social media MCP servers compares every scheduling vendor that runs one, and the Spreadcast social media MCP server page covers the server across all its networks. For what to post on TikTok in the first place, read our guide to promoting an app on TikTok. This page stays on the mechanics of posting.
Is There an Official TikTok MCP Server?
Yes, but not for posting. TikTok runs an official MCP server for advertisers. TikTok's help article on the TikTok for Business MCP Server, last updated in August 2026, describes it as a bridge that exposes campaign management, performance reporting, audience configuration and creative operations as tools, with two server addresses: one that loads about 400 tools at once and a lighter one that loads about 40 core tools and finds the rest when needed. It was announced at TikTok World in May 2026, as Digiday reported, as a way for marketers to plug their own AI agents into the ads platform.
That server is also the closest thing to an official Claude TikTok connector. The TikTok for Business listing in Claude's connector directory says it is made by TikTok and verified by Anthropic, and describes it as a way to create, manage and analyze advertising campaigns. Its tool list reads like the ads manager: advertiser info, catalogs, audiences, pixels, reports, ad creation. Nothing in it publishes an organic video or photo post to your own profile.
On the ChatGPT side we found no TikTok app for posting when we searched on October 16, 2026. So the honest answer to "is there an official TikTok MCP server I can use to post my videos" is no. Every TikTok MCP server that publishes to a creator account is built by someone other than TikTok, on top of TikTok's public posting API.
That API is the Content Posting API on TikTok for Developers. TikTok's getting started guide for Direct Post explains how an approved app publishes a video or photo post straight to a creator's profile, and a second path uploads content to the creator's TikTok inbox for them to finish. Any TikTok MCP server that posts within TikTok's rules is, underneath, a client of this API, and it inherits every limit described below.
Does TikTok Have an API for Posting and Uploading Videos?
Yes. TikTok for Developers lists the Content Posting API among its products and describes it as a way for people to post content, or upload drafts, from an app to their own TikTok profiles. It takes both videos and photo posts. It is the only TikTok API that publishes, so every TikTok MCP server for posting is built on it.
The other TikTok APIs are easy to mistake for it. Login Kit only signs people in. The Display API reads a creator's profile and their own public videos, with the user.info.basic and video.list scopes. The Research API is for non commercial research by eligible academic and not for profit bodies in places such as the US, the EEA and the UK, so it is closed to app makers who want to study their niche. Share Kit hands content from a mobile app over to the TikTok app, where the person finishes the post.
We found no price for these APIs on TikTok's developer pages. The real cost is the review: an app that wants to post publicly has to pass the audit described below, and that is the step most hobby projects never take.
What TikTok's Content Posting API Lets a Tool Post in October 2026
These are the rules any TikTok MCP server for posting has to live within, whoever built it. Each row comes from TikTok for Developers, read on October 16, 2026.
| What | TikTok's rule |
|---|---|
| Permission to publish | The video.publish scope, which the app must be approved for and the creator must grant, per the Direct Post getting started guide. Sending to the inbox instead needs video.upload, per the upload guide. |
| Who can see the post | Every Direct Post must carry a privacy level that matches one the account offers right now: everyone, mutual friends, followers or only me, per the Direct Post reference. A value the account does not offer is refused. |
| Caption on a video | Up to 2,200 characters, counted the way TikTok counts them, per the Direct Post reference. |
| Photo posts | Up to 35 pictures in one post, a title of up to 90 characters and a description of up to 4,000, per the photo post reference. |
| Video files | MP4, WebM or MOV, H.264 recommended, 23 to 60 frames a second, 360 to 4,096 pixels on each side, at most 4 GB, per the media transfer guide. |
| Video length | Up to 10 minutes through the API. Each account also has its own maximum, which the app reads before posting. |
| Picture files | JPEG or WebP, at most 1080p and 20 MB each, per the media transfer guide. Pictures can only be sent as links from a domain or address the app has verified it owns. |
| Uploading in parts | Parts of 5 MB to 64 MB, at most 1,000 of them, sent in order. Files under 5 MB go in one piece. |
| Requests | Each access token is limited to 6 requests a minute, per the Direct Post reference. |
| Posts a day | A posting cap per creator account, shared across every app, that TikTok says is typically around 15 posts a day, per TikTok's content sharing guidelines. |
| Inbox uploads waiting | At most 5 pending shares in any 24 hour window, per the upload reference. |
| Unaudited apps | Up to 5 users may post in a 24 hour window, their accounts must be private, and every post is limited to only me until the app passes TikTok's audit. |
| Sign in | Access tokens last 24 hours and refresh tokens 365 days, and a refresh can hand back a new refresh token, per TikTok's token management guide. |
TikTok changes these pages from time to time. If a number on TikTok's page differs when you read it, trust TikTok's page.
Direct Post or Upload to Inbox: Two Ways a Tool Sends a TikTok
TikTok gives a posting tool two very different ways in, and the one a TikTok MCP server uses decides how much of the post the assistant controls. The first is Direct Post. The app sends the file and every setting at once, and the post appears on the profile when TikTok has processed it. The Direct Post reference requires the privacy level on every request and offers switches for comments, Duets and Stitches, a cover frame for videos, and two disclosure flags for content that promotes a brand.
The second is the upload to inbox. The app sends the video or the pictures, and the creator gets a notification inside TikTok. TikTok's upload guide says apps should tell people they must open that inbox notification to continue editing in TikTok and complete the post. In other words, the upload lands as a draft inside the TikTok app, and the person adds the sound, effects and caption there before tapping Post. For photo posts the same choice is made with a post mode of DIRECT_POST or MEDIA_UPLOAD, and the photo post reference notes that the inbox mode needs TikTok app version 31.8 or later.
The inbox path is friendlier for a hand finished TikTok, because trending sounds and in app effects are only reachable inside TikTok. It also has a tight ceiling: the upload reference allows at most 5 pending shares in any 24 hour window, so a batch of ten clips stops halfway until you post some of them. Direct Post suits a post that is finished before it leaves your computer, such as designed slides or an edited clip with its own audio.
The TikTok App Audit and Why Unaudited Apps Post Privately
The rule that surprises most people who try a TikTok MCP server is about privacy. TikTok's Direct Post getting started guide says all content posted by unaudited clients is restricted to private viewing mode, and that the restriction lifts only after the app passes an audit that checks it follows TikTok's terms. TikTok's content sharing guidelines add the details: an unaudited app can let up to 5 users post in a 24 hour window, those accounts must be set to private at the time of posting, and posts go out as only me.
This catches people in a specific way. You find a promising server on GitHub, create your own TikTok developer app as its README asks, connect, ask Claude to post, and the call works. The video is on your profile. But nobody else can see it, and if your account is public the request fails outright with an error that says an unaudited client can only post to private accounts. Nothing is broken. The app simply has not been audited, and for a personal developer app it probably never will be.
The audit reviews the whole app, not a single post, against the screen rules in the next table. That is also why hosted posting tools have extra fields in their TikTok editors: they are TikTok's requirements, not design choices.
Audited or not, two more caps apply. The guidelines describe a 24 hour active creator cap for each app, set from the usage estimate in its audit application, and a posting cap per creator account of typically around 15 posts a day, shared by every app that posts for that account. If you post from your phone, a scheduler and an MCP server, all of it counts against the same limit, and the Direct Post reference answers with a too many posts error once it is reached.
How to Get TikTok Content Posting API Access and Pass the Audit
TikTok spreads this process across several pages. These steps follow its app review guidelines and content sharing guidelines, read on October 16, 2026.
- Step 1
Register an App With a Real Website
Create an app on TikTok for Developers. App review needs a fully built public website about your product, not a landing or login page, with links to a privacy policy and terms of service that are visible without opening a menu.
- Step 2
Add Only the Products and Scopes You Use
Add Login Kit and the Content Posting API, and ask for video.publish if you want Direct Post. Remove anything you do not use: unused products slow the review, and every product and scope you keep has to appear in your demo.
- Step 3
Record a Demo in the Sandbox
An app that has never been approved shows its integration in a sandbox. Upload at least one video, up to five of 50 MB each, that shows the whole flow to a finished post, on the same domain as your website.
- Step 4
Pass App Review
TikTok does not approve apps that are still in development or testing, or apps for private or personal use. App names that refer to social media companies are not allowed either.
- Step 5
Submit the Separate Content Posting Audit
Approval of the app is not the audit. The audit is its own application with usage estimates, which TikTok uses to set how many creators the app may post for each day. Until it passes, every post stays private.
- Step 6
Know What Will Not Pass
TikTok's guidelines name two kinds of app as not acceptable: one that copies content from other platforms to TikTok, and a utility tool for uploading to accounts you or your team manage. A personal server from GitHub is the second kind, which is why its posts stay private.
What TikTok Requires on Screen Before Every Post
TikTok's content sharing guidelines set out what an app must show and ask before it sends a Direct Post. These are the checks an audit looks for, read on October 16, 2026.
| Requirement | What TikTok asks for |
|---|---|
| Whose account | Show the creator's nickname, and read the creator's current info every time the posting screen opens. |
| Who can see it | A choice from the privacy options the account offers, picked by the person, with no default selected. |
| Comments, Duets and Stitches | Each one off until the person switches it on. If the account has turned one off in TikTok, it stays greyed out. Photo posts show only comments. |
| Promotional content | A content disclosure switch that starts off. When it is on, the person ticks Your brand, Branded content or both, and posting stays blocked until at least one is ticked. |
| Labels TikTok adds | Your brand alone is labeled Promotional content. Branded content, alone or with Your brand, is labeled Paid partnership. |
| Branded content privacy | Branded content cannot be only me. The app must either block that choice with a notice or switch the post to public and say so. |
| Consent | A line before the post button that points to TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation, plus the Branded Content Policy when branded content is ticked. |
| Preview and editing | A preview of the content, no added watermarks or logos, and any preset caption text or hashtags left editable. |
| Sending | Nothing goes to TikTok until the person has clearly agreed to the upload, and the app tells them processing can take a few minutes. |
An assistant in a chat cannot show these controls by itself, which is why a well built server keeps them in a screen you check before anything goes out.
Video: How an MCP Server Sits on Top of an API
A neutral explainer from IBM. It is not about TikTok, but it shows the layer a TikTok MCP server adds on top of the Content Posting API.
Four Kinds of TikTok MCP Server on GitHub and Beyond
Search GitHub for a TikTok MCP server and you will find dozens. They sort into four kinds by what they do and how they reach TikTok, and that decides most of what they risk.
Readers and Research Servers
Most projects named TikTok MCP do not post at all. Seym0n's TikTok MCP on GitHub, one of the most starred, lists tools to fetch a video's subtitles, read a post's details such as hashtags, likes and views, and search videos, through a third party service, TikNeuron, and its API key. Useful for studying what works in your niche, no help for publishing.
Browser and Cookie Uploaders
These log in to TikTok as you and upload through the website. wkaisertexas's TikTok uploader says it works by copying your browser's cookies, which tricks TikTok into believing you are logged in on a remote controlled browser. The autotok project in the TiktokAutoUploader repository had about 1,200 stars when we read it, ships an MCP server, and computes TikTok's anti bot signatures in a headless browser, with a proxy per account.
Official API Servers You Run Yourself
These use the Content Posting API with a TikTok developer app you register. aaronckj's tiktok studio MCP is a clear example: it uploads to your inbox by default, posts directly only with video.publish, checks the privacy level against what your account allows, and its README says plainly that everything an unaudited app posts is forced to private. Inside TikTok's rules, but limited by the audit.
Hosted Services With a Server Address
These are companies whose own TikTok app holds the connection for you and offers an MCP address on top. You connect TikTok once in their app, then paste one address into Claude or ChatGPT. Nothing runs on your computer. Scheduling tools with MCP servers fall here, and so does Spreadcast. Ask whether their TikTok app has passed the audit, which post types they send, and what decides when a post goes live.
TikTok Terms of Service and the Risk of Cookie Uploaders
Cookie and browser uploaders exist because the official path is narrow: an unaudited app posts privately, and an audit is out of reach for a hobby project. A cookie uploader skips both. The cost is that it works against what TikTok's US Terms of Service, last updated July 15, 2026, ask of you. The terms ask you to keep your password confidential and not give anyone else access to your account without TikTok's permission, and they bar scraping or extracting content with bots or other automated systems unless TikTok approves it in writing.
A session cookie is that access. Whoever holds the sessionid value can act as you, and a tool built around anti bot signatures and a proxy per account is, by its own description, designed to look like something it is not. If TikTok decides an upload pattern looks automated, the account it acts against is yours, not the project's. For an app maker whose TikTok account is a launch channel, that is a poor trade for skipping a few taps.
The wkaisertexas README itself notes that uploads start to fail after too many in a row and asks you to treat it as a scheduled uploader, not a spam bot. An assistant uploading on a loop hits that wall faster than a person would.
There is a security side too. A cookie in a config file is a full key to your TikTok session, messages and settings included. The MCP security best practices warn that local servers run with the same privileges as the client and can be reached by other processes on your machine. A token from TikTok's official sign in can be limited to posting and revoked from your TikTok settings. A copied cookie cannot be limited at all.
How Spreadcast's TikTok MCP Server Handles a Post
Spreadcast is a hosted TikTok MCP server for posting, built for people who make App Store apps. You connect TikTok once in Spreadcast and Spreadcast once in your assistant. The difference from a plain posting server is that Spreadcast also makes the post: it designs the pictures in your app's brand, writes the TikTok caption, and saves the result as a draft in Spreadcast for you to approve.
On the TikTok side, Spreadcast signs in through TikTok's Login Kit and asks for two permissions: user.info.basic to know which account it is, and video.publish to post. It does not ask for video.upload, so it does not drop files into your TikTok inbox. It uses Direct Post, and the draft and approval step happens in Spreadcast instead. It never asks for your TikTok password or a cookie, and because TikTok access tokens last a day, it renews the token before every post.
Before every TikTok post goes out, Spreadcast asks TikTok what the account allows right now: which privacy options it offers, whether comments, Duets or Stitches are switched off in the account's own settings, and how long a video it may post. If the privacy level on the post is no longer one the account offers, or the video is longer than the account's maximum, the post stops with a plain message instead of failing somewhere inside TikTok.
A Spreadcast TikTok post is either one video or a photo post of up to 10 pictures. That is fewer than the 35 TikTok accepts, because the same composer serves every network. Pictures go to TikTok as JPEG or WebP no larger than 1080 by 1920 pixels, and Spreadcast makes a copy that fits when the original does not. TikTok fetches them from Spreadcast's storage address, which has to be verified in TikTok's developer console. Videos are read from storage and sent to TikTok in parts. Captions are checked against TikTok's 2,200 character limit before anything is saved.
The pictures come from the same design code as the Spreadcast app. A single post comes in one of 11 kinds, such as feature, launch, stat or tutorial, in your app's colors, fonts and logo, with a real screenshot of your app in an iPhone frame when your brand kit has one. A carousel is 3 to 8 slides at 1080 by 1350 pixels in one look: a cover, screens of the app and a last slide that sends people to it. On TikTok that becomes a photo post people swipe through.
The caption is written for TikTok. Spreadcast's instructions for TikTok ask for one or two punchy lines under 150 characters, with three to five hashtags, and a first line that says something concrete, because TikTok shows only the start of a caption under the video. It never invents numbers, quotes or features that are not in your notes or your app's listing.
Then it stops. Every new connection saves drafts. A draft waits on your Spreadcast calendar until you approve it, and only then does Spreadcast publish it at the planned time. If you choose to let the connection publish as well, the assistant is told to show you the post, the network and the time and ask before it schedules anything. Scheduling and publishing need the Pro plan. The same draft can also go to Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram and Discord, and YouTube and Mastodon connect too, each with its own caption.
TikTok Settings: What the Assistant Sets and What You Set in Spreadcast
TikTok asks for more on each post than any other network. Some of it travels through the MCP server, and some only through Spreadcast's post editor. This is how it splits today.
| Setting | Through the assistant | In Spreadcast's post editor |
|---|---|---|
| Who can see the post | Yes. The assistant passes Everyone, Friends, Followers or Only Me. A TikTok post without one fails the check and cannot go out. | Yes, from the options your account offers, with nothing picked in advance. |
| Comments | No. Off unless you switch it on. | Yes, unless comments are off in your TikTok settings. |
| Duets and Stitches | No. Off unless you switch them on. | Yes, for videos, unless they are off in your TikTok settings. |
| Promotes your brand | No. | Yes. TikTok labels the post Promotional content. |
| Paid partnership | No. | Yes. TikTok labels it Paid partnership, and it cannot be Only Me. |
| Video cover | No. TikTok uses the first frame. | Yes, pick the frame TikTok uses as the cover. |
| Caption and hashtags | Yes, written per network, up to 2,200 characters. | Yes, edit before you approve. |
| Pictures or video | Yes. Designed slides, a picture from a public link, or a video of up to 100 MB. | Yes, upload or swap files. |
If your post promotes your own app, switch on the disclosure in the editor before you approve. The assistant cannot do it for you yet.
What Spreadcast Does Not Do on TikTok
It does not make TikTok videos. Spreadcast designs still pictures and carousels, and video editing through the MCP server is not built. You can post a finished video you made elsewhere, from a public link, but the assistant does not cut, caption or add music to it.
Public posting depends on TikTok's audit of Spreadcast's own app. Until TikTok has approved it, TikTok only lets Spreadcast post for accounts that are set to private, only as Only Me, and for up to five accounts a day across all of Spreadcast. When TikTok refuses a post for this reason, Spreadcast says so in plain words rather than reporting a vague failure.
It does not send to your TikTok inbox. There is no draft waiting in the TikTok app to add a trending sound to. If you want a TikTok sound on a slide post, download the slides from Spreadcast and post them from the TikTok app.
It does not read TikTok numbers. Spreadcast asks TikTok only for basic account info and permission to post, not for the statistics scopes, so it shows no TikTok views, likes or follower counts. Check TikTok results in TikTok Studio. It also does not reply to comments, read messages or run TikTok ads, and the photo posts it sends carry no music.
How to Post to TikTok From Claude, Step by Step
Claude can add a custom connector on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free is limited to one, according to Anthropic's guide to custom connectors, read on October 16, 2026. These steps set up a Claude TikTok MCP connection through Spreadcast.
- Step 1
Connect TikTok in Spreadcast
In Spreadcast, open Accounts and connect TikTok. On TikTok's consent screen, sign in with the account posts should go to and leave the posting permission switched on. If you switch it off, Spreadcast tells you and asks you to connect again.
- Step 2
Add Spreadcast as a Custom Connector in Claude
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Click the plus Add button and choose Add custom connector. Name it Spreadcast and paste the server address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants. Click Continue and then Add. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it once in Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then clicks Connect.
- Step 3
Choose Drafts on the Spreadcast Screen
Claude opens a Spreadcast page. Log in if asked, then pick Make Drafts, which saves posts for you to approve, or Make and Publish, which lets this connection schedule and publish too. Click Connect. Start with Make Drafts.
- Step 4
Switch the Connector On in a Chat
In a new chat, click the plus button at the lower left, open Connectors and switch Spreadcast on.
- Step 5
Ask for the Post and Say Who Should See It
Try: "Design a 5 slide carousel about our new widget, write a TikTok caption with 4 hashtags, and save it as a TikTok draft visible to Everyone." Name the privacy level yourself, since TikTok wants it chosen by you. The slides appear in the chat, followed by the caption.
- Step 6
Finish the TikTok Settings and Approve
Open the draft in Spreadcast, switch on comments if you want them, switch on the disclosure if the post promotes your app, check the caption, and approve. Spreadcast publishes it to TikTok at the time on the post, and TikTok may take a few minutes to show it.
Can ChatGPT Post on TikTok? How It Works Through MCP
Not on its own. ChatGPT has no built in way to post to TikTok, so it needs a custom MCP server with write actions. OpenAI's help article on custom MCP servers, read on October 16, 2026, says full support, including write actions, is available to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web only. Pro gets read and fetch permissions only, not enough to save a draft.
- Step 1
Check Your Plan and Role
On a Business workspace, only admins and owners can add a custom MCP server for the workspace. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also grant that to chosen members. On Plus or Free, ChatGPT cannot post on TikTok through MCP today: use it to write the caption and hashtags, then post by hand or through Claude.
- Step 2
Add the Server in Plugins
In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server. Enter Spreadcast as the name, and under Connection paste the server address from Spreadcast's Settings, AI Assistants.
- Step 3
Pick OAuth and Sign In
Set authentication to OAuth so you sign in with Spreadcast rather than pasting a key. Read the risk warning, confirm, and create the plugin. Sign in on the Spreadcast page that opens and choose Make Drafts.
- Step 4
Mention Spreadcast in Each Message That Needs It
Start a chat, type @ and pick Spreadcast, then ask for the TikTok post and name who should see it. The app choice applies to that one message, so mention it again later. ChatGPT may ask you to confirm before it saves the draft.
Can You Schedule a TikTok Post From Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes, but the schedule never lives in TikTok's API. The Direct Post request in TikTok's reference has fields for privacy, comments, Duets, Stitches, the cover frame, the two disclosure flags and a label for AI generated content, and no field for a publish time. A tool that offers TikTok scheduling holds the post itself and sends it when the time comes.
TikTok's own scheduler works another way. TikTok's announcement of its video scheduler says creators and Business Accounts can schedule a post from 15 minutes to 10 days ahead on the web upload page at tiktok.com, and scheduled posts then show in the app as well. That suits one video you upload by hand. An assistant cannot reach it.
With Spreadcast, the draft carries a planned time on your Spreadcast calendar, and after you approve it Spreadcast publishes it at that time. Ask Claude for "a TikTok photo post for Tuesday at 6 pm, visible to Everyone" and the draft lands on Tuesday. Scheduling needs the Pro plan, and TikTok's daily cap of around 15 posts per account still applies to whatever you plan.
Claude TikTok Skill, Connector or Automation: Which One You Need
Three words get mixed up in searches for Claude and TikTok. A skill is a folder of instructions, scripts and files that Claude loads when a task calls for it. Anthropic's article on skills says skills work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise with code execution switched on, and that MCP connects Claude to outside services while skills teach Claude how to use them. So a Claude TikTok skill can hold your caption rules, your hashtag list and your brand voice, but on its own it cannot post anything.
A connector is the MCP server itself, added in Claude's settings. It is what actually reaches TikTok or a service that holds your TikTok connection. The official TikTok for Business connector is one, for ads. Spreadcast is another, for posts. A skill and a connector work well together: the skill says how your TikTok captions should read, and the connector saves the post.
Claude TikTok automation is the whole loop: something happens, a post is drafted, you approve it. With Spreadcast the starting point can be your app itself. The server reads moments from your App Store listing, such as a new version or a rating milestone, and the assistant can turn each one into a designed post for TikTok and your other networks. Ask "post my moments" and it drafts them. Because every new connection saves drafts, the loop never publishes something you have not seen.
ChatGPT TikTok Prompts for Captions and Hashtags
These work in ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant, with or without a TikTok MCP server. They use an invented habit tracker called Streakly. Swap in your own app and facts.
| What you want | Prompt to paste |
|---|---|
| A caption for a slide post | Write a TikTok caption for a 5 slide photo post about how Streakly's streak freeze works. One or two short lines, under 150 characters, first line states the benefit plainly, no emoji, then 4 hashtags on their own line. |
| Three hooks to test | Give me 3 different first lines for a TikTok about Streakly's new home screen widget. Each under 80 characters, each a concrete statement or question, none starting with "POV" or "Did you know". |
| Hashtags that fit | Suggest 8 TikTok hashtags for a video showing a habit tracker app's daily check in. Mix 2 broad tags, 4 about habits and productivity, and 2 about iPhone apps. Explain in a few words why each fits. Do not invent view counts. |
| Search words in the caption | List the words someone would type into TikTok search to find a video about building a reading habit. Then rewrite this caption so it uses two of them naturally: "Our new reminder feature is here." |
| On screen text for slides | Write on screen text for 5 TikTok slides about 3 ways to keep a habit streak alive. Slide 1 is the hook, slides 2 to 4 are one tip each in under 12 words, slide 5 says Streakly is on the App Store. |
| A caption from release notes | Here are Streakly's version 3.2 release notes. Pick the one change a TikTok viewer would care about most and write a caption about only that, under 150 characters, with 3 hashtags. Do not add features that are not in the notes. |
Ask for the reason behind each hashtag. It keeps the assistant from padding the list with tags that have nothing to do with the post.
How to Get Useful TikTok Hashtags From ChatGPT or Claude
Hashtags on TikTok are a description, not a megaphone. TikTok's own explanation of how the For You feed works lists video information, which might include captions, sounds and hashtags, as one of the signals it uses to match videos with interested viewers, and says follower count is not a direct factor. So a hashtag helps when it describes the video accurately and matches what interested people watch, and does little when it is only popular.
That shapes how to ask an assistant. A request for "viral TikTok hashtags" gets you the same handful of huge tags every time. A request that describes the video, names the viewer and asks for a mix gets tags that do the describing job: two broad ones, a few about the topic, one or two about the format, such as app tips or iPhone apps. Three to five is plenty for most posts, which is also the range Spreadcast's TikTok caption writer uses.
Be careful with numbers. An assistant without live TikTok data cannot know how many views a hashtag has this week, and some will make a figure up if asked. Ask for reasons, not counts, and check a tag's current use in the TikTok app's search before you build a series around it.
Put the words that matter in the caption itself. People search TikTok with plain phrases such as "habit tracker app", and a caption that uses one naturally describes the video better than a row of tags. For captions on every network, see our social media caption generator.
What to Check Before You Connect a TikTok MCP Server
Run through these before you give any server, ours included, a way to post to your TikTok account.
| Question | Good answer | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| How does it reach TikTok? | Through the Content Posting API after you sign in on TikTok's own consent screen. | It asks for your TikTok password, a sessionid cookie or a browser profile. |
| Has its TikTok app passed the audit? | It says yes, or says plainly that posts are private until it does. | It promises public posts and never mentions the audit. |
| Who picks the privacy level? | You, for every post, from the options your account offers. | It always posts as public, or picks a level for you. |
| Does it handle disclosure? | It lets you mark a post that promotes your brand or a paid partner. | No disclosure setting at all, for an account that promotes a product. |
| What happens when the assistant says "post this"? | It saves a draft, or asks you to confirm the exact post, network and time. | It publishes at once. The MCP security best practices warn against broad permissions granted up front. |
| Can you take access back? | One place lists each assistant connection and removes it at once. | The only way out is to log out of TikTok everywhere. |
Claude asks before it runs a tool unless you allow it always, and ChatGPT asks before write actions. Keep both on for anything that posts.
Common TikTok Errors When an Assistant Posts
These come back from TikTok through any TikTok MCP server built on the official API. Codes are from the Direct Post reference and the upload reference.
| What TikTok says | What it means and what to do |

| unaudited_client_can_only_post_to_private_accounts | The app has not passed TikTok's audit. Set your account to private and choose only me, or use an app that has passed. |
| privacy_level_option_mismatch | The post asked for a privacy level the account does not offer, such as Everyone on a private account. Choose again from the account's options. |
| spam_risk_too_many_posts | The account reached its daily posting cap across all apps. Try again tomorrow, and spread posts out. |
| spam_risk_too_many_pending_share | Too many inbox uploads are waiting. Finish or delete some in the TikTok app first. |
| reached_active_user_cap | The app reached the number of accounts it may post for today. This is a limit on the app, not on you. |
| url_ownership_unverified | TikTok will only fetch pictures from an address the app has verified. A picture post cannot go out until the app's owner fixes it. |
| rate_limit_exceeded | More than 6 requests a minute on one token. Wait a minute and try again. |
Spreadcast turns each of these into a plain sentence on the post, so you see what to change rather than a code.
Spreadcast Plans for TikTok Posting From an Assistant
The MCP server is part of every plan. What changes is whether posts can be scheduled and published.
| Plan | Price | What the assistant can do on TikTok |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Design posts and carousels, write TikTok captions and hashtags, check them and save drafts. You download and post them yourself. |
| Pro | $29 a month | Everything in Free, plus scheduling and publishing to TikTok and every other network you connected, once you allow publishing. |
| Studio | $79 a month | Everything in Pro for up to 5 apps, each with its own brand kit, so each app's TikTok posts come out in that app's look. |
Current details are on the pricing page, and the setup for every assistant is on the MCP page. Your Claude or ChatGPT plan is separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official TikTok MCP server?
Yes, for ads only. TikTok's for Business MCP Server manages campaigns, audiences and reports, and it is listed in Claude's connector directory. It does not publish organic posts. Every TikTok MCP server that posts to your profile is built by a third party on TikTok's Content Posting API.
Can Claude post to TikTok?
Yes, through an MCP server with TikTok permission. With Spreadcast connected as a custom connector, Claude can design a photo post or carousel, write the TikTok caption and save it as a draft with the privacy level you name. You approve it in Spreadcast, and Spreadcast publishes it to TikTok.
Can ChatGPT post on TikTok?
Only on plans that allow custom MCP servers with write actions. OpenAI's help article lists ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web, and says Pro gets read and fetch only. On Plus or Free, use ChatGPT for the caption and hashtags and post the TikTok yourself.
Why did my TikTok post from an MCP server go out as private?
Because the app behind the server has not passed TikTok's audit. TikTok's guidelines say unaudited apps can post only for private accounts, only as only me, and for up to 5 users a day. Public posting needs an app TikTok has audited.
Can an AI assistant make the TikTok video for me?
Not through Spreadcast. It designs still posts and carousels of 3 to 8 slides, which go to TikTok as photo posts, and it can post a finished video from a link. Video editing through the MCP server is not built, so cut and score the video in your editing app first.
How many TikTok posts can an assistant make in a day?
TikTok sets a cap per creator account, typically around 15 posts a day and shared across every app, per its content sharing guidelines. Inbox uploads are capped at 5 pending in 24 hours. Posting from your phone counts against the same limit.
Are TikTok MCP servers on GitHub safe to use?
It depends on how they reach TikTok. Servers that use the Content Posting API with your own developer app stay inside TikTok's rules but post privately until audited. Cookie uploaders act as you in a browser, which sits badly with TikTok's terms on sharing account access and automated systems.
Is there a Claude TikTok skill?
You can write one: a skill is a set of instructions Claude loads for a task, such as your caption style and hashtag rules. A skill cannot post by itself. Pair it with a connector, such as Spreadcast, that can save and publish the post.
