Metricool Alternative That Makes Your App's Posts for You

Metricool schedules and measures the posts you make. Spreadcast is a Metricool alternative for app founders: it designs a post for every App Store update and review and publishes it to 8 networks for you.

Free to start · No credit card · No manual posting

Metricool Alternative: Who Needs One and Who Does Not

Metricool is a scheduler built around analytics: a planner, an inbox, competitor tracking and reports. Metricool's pricing page lists a free plan and a Starter plan from $25 a month that covers up to 5 brands, as of October 2026. It schedules and measures the content you bring, so somebody still has to fill the planner.

Spreadcast fills it for one kind of business: an app on the App Store. It checks your public listing every day, and when a new version, a 5 star review or a rating milestone appears, it designs the post, writes a caption for each network and publishes it to your accounts. If you opened an analytics tool and found you had nothing to schedule, this is the Metricool alternative you were looking for.

On price the two are close, and what the price includes is different. The free Spreadcast plan drafts every post for one app. Pro is $29 a month flat, with design, captions and publishing to 8 networks included, LinkedIn among them. Metricool Starter is $25 a month before anyone has made a post, and X is an add on there at $10 a month per account, per Metricool's guide to the X add on. Spreadcast does not post to X.

People look for an alternative to Metricool for three reasons. X costs extra on every paid plan and is missing from the free one. Team roles, post approval and the API sit on the Advanced plan. And some people find they opened an analytics tool when what they needed was something to post.

Keep Metricool if measurement is the reason you opened this page. Few tools give you as much analytics per dollar, and it works well beside Spreadcast: one designs and publishes the posts, the other measures them. The list of Metricool alternatives compares tools by reporting depth. To decide which numbers to watch in the first place, see our list of social media KPIs.

Metricool Pricing vs Spreadcast Pricing in October 2026

Metricool charges by the number of brands, and a brand is one business with one profile on each network. Spreadcast charges a flat price by the number of apps, with the posts designed and published for you. Metricool figures are the US dollar prices on Metricool's pricing page, before VAT.

Metricool prices checked on October 11, 2026. Two add ons are billed on top: X, per Metricool's guide to the X add on, and Advanced Analytics from $12 a month on Starter, per Metricool's plans and add ons article. Starter with one X account is $35 a month ($25 plus $10). Spreadcast does not post to X. Spreadcast plans are on the pricing page.

What the Metricool Free Plan Includes and Where It Stops

The Metricool free plan is permanent. It is not a trial, and it asks for no credit card. Metricool's article on free and paid plans sets out the limits: 1 brand, 20 published posts a month with a counter that resets on the 1st, 30 days of analytics history, and 5 competitor profiles that you cannot swap once chosen.

Two networks are missing. The free plan cannot connect LinkedIn or X. LinkedIn arrives with Starter. X needs Starter plus the add on, which went up to $10 a month per account on July 13, 2026. A founder who posts mainly on X and LinkedIn will not get far on the free plan.

Reports are the other wall. You can read your numbers on screen for free, but downloading a PDF or PPT report starts on Starter, and customizable templates, the Data Studio connector and the API start on Advanced.

For a single brand on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Pinterest, 20 posts a month is close to a post every weekday. That is a generous free plan for one brand, and plenty of small accounts never need more.

Metricool Starter vs Advanced, and What 8 Networks Cost

The step from Starter to Advanced is $42 a month on monthly billing ($67 minus $25). Metricool's pricing page says Advanced adds access for clients or team members, roles, post approval, custom report templates, the Data Studio connector and the API with Zapier. The analytics are the same on both plans. The table prices the setups an app team is likely to need on 8 of the networks Spreadcast publishes to. Spreadcast is ours and comes first.

Arithmetic from list prices on October 11, 2026, before VAT. Yearly Starter is $20 × 12 = $240, and the X add on is $10 × 12 = $120 for each account. Metricool Starter is $4 a month cheaper than Spreadcast Pro ($25 against $29), and that $25 buys a planner and analytics for posts you still design and caption yourself.

Metricool vs Spreadcast: Feature by Feature

Metricool schedules and measures what you make. Spreadcast designs the posts and publishes them. The rows about making the post come first, and the rows about measuring it come last.

What Metricool Is Used For, and What Spreadcast Does in Each Area

Metricool is used for six jobs. Each card says what it does there in specifics, from its own pricing page and help center in October 2026, and what an app founder gets from Spreadcast in the same area.

  • Planner and Scheduling

Metricool's content planning guide describes a calendar, autolists that publish recurring content, a CSV import for scheduling in bulk, and multiposting, which creates one calendar entry per network so you can adapt each version. It suggests a best time to post for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and YouTube. Paid plans have no monthly cap, within Metricool's fair use policy, which sets a base threshold of 600 posts per brand a month before a manual review. The planner holds what you put into it. Spreadcast fills its own calendar: each post it designs takes the next free slot.

  • AI Assistant

Metricool's assistant writes post text and runs on credits: 5 per brand a month on Free, 20 on Starter and 35 on Advanced, per the pricing page. The image stays your job, with Canva and Google Drive connected from Starter. Spreadcast writes a caption for each of the 8 networks and designs the image as part of every post. It starts from your release notes or a review, so there is nothing to prompt.

  • Analytics and History

This is Metricool's core. Free keeps 30 days, and paid plans keep your history without a limit. One catch is worth knowing early. Metricool's article on historical data says a first connection shows the previous 30 days, X only the last 5 days or 100 posts, and follower counts on Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads and Bluesky are recorded from the day you connect and cannot be recovered later. So connect before you need the chart. Spreadcast shows basic stats for each post it publishes, and Metricool can read the same accounts.

  • Reports

Metricool's guide to reports puts them on Starter and above: PDF or PPT files with your logo, a monthly report emailed to one or more recipients, a download manager that keeps your last 100 manual reports, and a share link that opens without signing in. Custom templates need Advanced, and the guide mentions no CSV download. Spreadcast has no report export, so a client report comes from Metricool.

  • Competitors, Inbox and Ads

Free tracks 5 competitor profiles that you cannot change, and paid plans track up to 100. The inbox covers Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile, with LinkedIn on paid plans and X through the add on. Facebook Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads report into the same dashboard. Spreadcast publishes organic posts. Replies stay in each network's own app, and ad numbers stay in Metricool.

  • MCP for Claude and ChatGPT, and the API

Metricool's article on its MCP says the connection works on any plan, Free included. An AI client such as Claude or ChatGPT can query your analytics, check best posting times and create scheduled posts, inside your plan's limits. It cannot handle inbox messages, comments or SmartLinks. The API is separate and needs Advanced. With an assistant you still write a prompt for every post. Spreadcast needs none, because a change on your App Store listing is the trigger. It also has its own MCP server: sign in with Spreadcast and Claude or ChatGPT can design posts and carousels in your app's brand, write captions, schedule and read analytics there, drafts only by default.

Does Metricool Post for You? How Auto Publishing Works

Yes, Metricool posts for you once the post exists. You build it in the Planner, pick a date and time, and save it, and Metricool's calendar guide describes that save as scheduling the post for the selected time. On Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads and Bluesky that is the whole job. Auto publishing is on the free plan too: the FAQ on Metricool's pricing page says Free can publish content automatically, inside its 20 posts a month.

Instagram and TikTok have a switch. With Autopublish on, the post goes out by itself. With it off, Metricool's manual publishing guide says you get a push notification on your phone or an email at the scheduled time, the media lands in your gallery, the caption is copied to your clipboard, and you finish the post in the Instagram or TikTok app. Some posts can only go this way: Instagram Stories with links, mentions or stickers, Reels with interactive stickers or audio outside Metricool's library, and TikTok videos with effects or music outside the Top 100 trending songs.

Two rules trip people up. Auto publishing on Instagram needs a business or creator profile, as Metricool's Instagram guide states, so a personal profile always gets the notification. And once a notification has gone out, the post cannot be switched to auto publishing afterwards. Metricool's troubleshooting article says to duplicate the post and schedule the copy instead.

So the honest answer to "does Metricool auto post" is yes for publishing and no for making. Metricool never decides what to post or designs the image. Spreadcast does those two steps for an app: it starts from a change on your App Store listing, designs the post and then publishes it, as the steps further down show.

What Metricool Can Post: TikTok, Stories, Facebook Groups, LinkedIn, YouTube and Threads

The questions people type most are whether Metricool can post to a given network or format. Each row comes from Metricool's own guide for that network, read on October 17, 2026, with what Spreadcast does in the same place.

What Metricool Can Post: TikTok, Stories, Facebook Groups, LinkedIn, YouTube and Threads

Metricool's guides are updated often and carry relative dates, so check the guide for your network before you plan around a limit.

Does Metricool Have Social Listening?

Not as a separate tool. The feature menu on Metricool's pricing page lists the Planner, Analytics, Reporting, Flows, the Inbox, SmartLinks, team features, add ons and a Hashtag Tracker, and nothing called listening. What it offers instead watches your own accounts and the competitors you name: up to 100 competitor profiles on paid plans, and an inbox for the comments and messages on your profiles.

The closest thing to listening is the Hashtag Tracker, which is bought by the day at $25 per day for each network. Metricool's Hashtag Tracker guide limits it to Instagram and X. On Instagram it follows one hashtag, only from the day the session starts, and only in feed posts and Reels. On X it can follow a hashtag, a keyword or an account up to 7 days back, and it needs the X add on. Data refreshes every 8 hours.

If you need to hear what people say about a brand when they do not tag it, that is a suite feature. Sprout Social's pricing page puts keyword and location monitoring on Standard at $199 per seat a month, and Social Champ's pricing page lists social listening on its Growth plan. The roundup of Metricool alternatives compares the suites.

Spreadcast does no listening either. For the posts it publishes it reads likes, comments and follower counts, which is enough to see which app updates people respond to.

Does Metricool Integrate With Canva?

Yes, on paid plans. Metricool's Canva guide has you connect Canva once from the multimedia icon in the Planner, after which your designs can be searched and dragged onto the calendar or attached while you write a post. Supported formats are JPG, PDF, PNG, PPTX, GIF and MP4. A design with several pages can go out as separate images or be joined into one MP4 or GIF. The route also runs the other way: in Canva, Share, then More options, sends a design straight to Metricool's Planner.

The free plan does not include Canva, and the pricing page lists Google Drive and Adobe Express as other sources for the Planner. The mobile app can open Canva too, according to Metricool's mobile app guide.

What the integration saves is the download and upload between two tabs. You still open Canva and design each post. For an app, Spreadcast skips that part: it builds the image from your icon, a real screenshot in an iPhone frame and your colors. If you want a design tool anyway, the Canva comparison covers what Canva is good at.

Metricool Mobile App: What Works on iOS and Android

Metricool has a mobile app for iOS and Android, and it is the part of Metricool that makes manual publishing work, because the notification with your media and caption arrives there. Metricool's mobile app guide lists what it can do: plan, edit and duplicate posts with files up to 500 MB, see a basic view of best times, write text with the AI assistant, pull files from the Post Library, Google Drive and Canva, read analytics, answer the inbox, generate reports and approve posts.

The same guide lists what stays on the web: editing a post separately for each network, scheduling threads, Adobe Express, social calendars, SmartLinks, ads, user management and report templates. Plans are bought, changed and cancelled on Metricool's website, except plans bought through an app store. Adding audio to a Reel is web only as well.

Spreadcast runs in the browser, so there is no app to install. In approve first mode the daily job is one tap per post, and on full autopilot there is nothing to do at all, except for posts that quote a reviewer's words, which always wait for you.

How Spreadcast Turns an App Store Listing Into Posts

This is the part Metricool does not do. It takes one link to set up.

  1. Step 1

Give It the Link to Your App

Paste your App Store link on the start page. Spreadcast reads the public listing and builds a brand kit from it: icon, screenshots and the colors in the icon. If the app has a website, the logo and fonts come from there too.

  2. Step 2

    Connect Your Social Accounts

Connect each network once. Posts go to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video posts, and every network gets a caption written for it.

  3. Step 3

    Ship Your App as Usual

When a new version reaches the store, Spreadcast writes an update announcement from your release notes, cut down to two or three points, with your own screenshot. Good release notes make better posts, and the app release notes examples show how to write them.

  4. Step 4

Reviews and Milestones Become Posts Too

A new 5 star review can become a post. If the post quotes the reviewer's words it waits for your approval, because Apple's ratings and reviews guidance permits customer reviews in marketing only when the reviewer agrees. A post that shows only the rating, or a thank you post at 1,000 ratings or a 4.8 average, can go out by itself.

  5. Step 5

Pick How Much Control You Keep

With approve first, each post waits for one tap. With full autopilot, posts take the next free calendar slot and are published within minutes of it. In a week with no update, Spreadcast drafts a post about one feature so the feed does not go quiet.

For an app founder the row that decides it is making posts. Metricool measures a feed well, and Spreadcast is what fills the feed: it designs each post and publishes it.

Metricool vs Buffer, Later, Hootsuite and Meta Business Suite

These are the comparisons people search most. Spreadcast is ours and comes first. In the other four, both sides schedule posts that you make, so they are compared on price and on what each plan includes, from each vendor's own pages in October 2026.

  • Metricool vs Spreadcast

Metricool gives you a planner and charts for posts you make, free for 1 brand and from $25 a month. Spreadcast designs the posts about your app and publishes them for $29 a month flat, and its free plan drafts every post. Pick Spreadcast when the planner is empty most weeks. Add Metricool's free plan beside it when you want to measure the result.

  • Metricool vs Buffer

Buffer charges per channel: $6 a month on Essentials billed monthly, or $5 billed yearly, per Buffer's pricing page, with a free plan for 3 channels. X is an ordinary channel there, with no add on. One brand on four channels costs $24 a month, a dollar under Metricool Starter. Five brands on four channels each would be 20 channels, and Metricool's $25 for 5 brands wins by a wide margin. Buffer's pricing page lists no competitor tracking. The Buffer comparison goes further.

  • Metricool vs Later

Later's pricing page lists Starter at $18.75 a month on yearly billing: 1 user, one profile on each of 8 networks, 30 posts per profile a month and 3 months of analytics. X is not among its networks. Metricool Starter has no monthly post cap, keeps the full history and reaches X through the add on. Choose Later for its Instagram and TikTok planning tools, which the Later comparison covers.

  • Metricool vs Hootsuite

Hootsuite's plans page starts at $99 per user a month on annual billing, with no free plan and a 14 day trial. That buys brand monitoring and an inbox with message routing for a team. Metricool Starter costs about a quarter of that on monthly billing and tracks up to 100 competitor profiles, where Hootsuite Standard benchmarks 5. One person who wants charts should stay on Metricool. The Hootsuite comparison has the four plans.

  • Metricool vs Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is free on desktop and in its mobile app. It schedules posts, stories and reels to Facebook and Instagram and has an inbox and insights for those two. If they are your only networks, it does the job at no cost. Metricool adds the other networks, competitor tracking and reports you can send to someone else.

Cheaper Alternative to Metricool and Open Source Options

Metricool is already one of the least expensive tools per brand, so a cheaper alternative to Metricool exists only in a few cases: you have an app and post to X, you post to one or two channels, you want X without an add on, or you are willing to run your own server. Spreadcast is ours and comes first.

When to Choose Metricool Instead of Spreadcast

Metricool is the right tool for the five jobs below. An app team can keep it for the first four and let Spreadcast design and publish the recurring posts.

  • You Want to Know What Works

Paid Metricool plans keep your full analytics history and compare you with up to 100 competitors. If you make decisions from numbers, such as which format to repeat and which network to drop, you need a tool that measures. Metricool can read the same accounts Spreadcast publishes to.

  • You Send Reports to a Client or a Boss

Starter exports PDF and PPT reports and can send them automatically every month. Advanced adds customizable templates and a Data Studio connector. Spreadcast shows basic stats for each post, so the report comes from Metricool.

  • You Manage Several Brands

Starter covers up to 5 brands for $25 a month, which is $5 a brand, and a brand can be any kind of business. For an agency whose clients mostly have no app, Metricool is the tool. Spreadcast Studio is $79 a month for 5 apps, with the posts for each app designed and published.

  • You Run Ads

Metricool pulls Google Ads, Facebook Ads and TikTok Ads into the same dashboard as your organic posts. Keep it for that: Spreadcast publishes organic posts and does not connect to ad platforms.

  • You Already Have Content

A creator, a shop with product photos or a team with a designer has plenty to schedule. Metricool's planner, best time suggestions and inbox are what that team needs. Spreadcast is built for apps on the App Store, with Google Play next on the list, so a shop or a creator should pick Metricool.

Can You Use Metricool and Spreadcast Together?

Yes. The two do different halves of the job, and an app team that cares about numbers can run both. Let Spreadcast produce and publish the app posts. Connect the same social accounts to Metricool and read its analytics to see how the accounts are growing and which networks deserve the effort.

If you prefer one planner for everything, use Spreadcast's free plan as a design source. It gives you each post as an image to download, and you can upload that image to Metricool's planner next to the rest of your content. On the free plan the image carries a small Spreadcast mark.

Running both makes less sense when the Metricool planner is empty most weeks. In that case the bottleneck is making posts, and a second dashboard will not change it. Start with Spreadcast and add Metricool's free plan when there is something to measure: it covers 1 brand with 30 days of analytics, without LinkedIn or X, so the pair costs $29 a month in total. The guide on how to promote an app on social media covers what an app account should post, and the page for indie developers shows how Spreadcast handles it.

If Buffer is the other name on your shortlist, Metricool vs Buffer puts the two free plans and every paid plan side by side.

How to Cancel Metricool or Downgrade to the Free Plan

Canceling a paid Metricool plan does not close the account. It drops to Free at the end of the billing period, and a few choices have to be made before that day.

  1. Step 1

Download Your Reports While Starter Is Active

PDF and PPT downloads stop on Free, and so does analytics history older than 30 days. Generate a report for each month or quarter you may want later. The download manager keeps your last 100 manual reports.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Which Brand Stays

Free allows 1 brand. Metricool's guide to managing a plan says it keeps the oldest brand by creation date, and that the choice cannot be changed once the cancellation completes. To keep a different one, delete the others in the Connections panel first. Brands you leave in place are hidden on Free, not deleted.

  3. Step 3

    Cancel on the Website

Open Plan and Billing, click the three dot menu next to your plan, select Cancel plan and confirm. The guide says this is done on the website and not in the mobile app. A plan bought through the App Store or Google Play is canceled in that store. Deleting your Metricool account does not cancel the subscription, so cancel the plan first.

  4. Step 4

    Know the Refund Window

Metricool's refund policy gives 15 calendar days from the first purchase of a paid plan to withdraw and get the payment back, on monthly and annual plans alike. Automatic renewals are not refunded. After the window, a canceled plan keeps running until the cycle you paid for ends.

  5. Step 5

Or Drop Only the X Add On

If X is the cost you object to, you can keep the plan and set the number of X add ons to 0 in Plan and Billing before the renewal. One warning from the add on guide: accounts that still pay the earlier $5 rate lose it for good once every add on is removed.

  6. Step 6

    Check Your SmartLinks

Link in bio pages made with SmartLinks stay public after the downgrade, and the guide says they cannot be edited or deleted on Free. Delete any page you want offline before the paid period ends.

  7. Step 7

Put Spreadcast in Front of the Free Plan

If you have an app, paste its App Store link at the start page and let Spreadcast design and publish the posts. Metricool Free keeps measuring one brand at no cost. The page for mobile apps shows what goes out after a release.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Metricool free or paid?

Both. Metricool has a permanent free plan for 1 brand with 20 scheduled posts a month and 30 days of analytics, and paid plans from $25 a month, per Metricool's pricing page as of October 2026. The free plan cannot connect LinkedIn or X.

How much does Metricool cost per month?

On monthly billing, Starter starts at $25 a month for up to 5 brands and Advanced at $67 a month for up to 15 brands. Annual billing lowers those to $20 and $53. Prices rise with the number of brands, and X costs another $10 a month for each connected account.

What is a cheaper alternative to Metricool?

If you have an app, Spreadcast. Pro is $29 a month flat with the posts designed, captioned and published to 8 networks, where Metricool Starter is $25 a month before anyone has made a post. For one or two channels of your own posts, Buffer is cheaper: Buffer's pricing page shows a free plan for up to 3 channels and from $5 a month per channel after that on yearly billing ($6 billed monthly). For five brands, Metricool Starter at $25 a month is hard to undercut.

Is there an open source alternative to Metricool?

Yes, two are worth a look. Postiz is open source under the AGPL 3.0 license and can be self hosted, according to the Postiz repository. Mixpost has a free Lite edition and paid self hosted licenses. Both are schedulers first, with lighter analytics than Metricool.

Does Metricool include X?

Only as a paid add on. Metricool's guide to the X add on puts it at $10 a month per connected X account on Starter or higher, a price that took effect on July 13, 2026. X is not available on the free plan.

Does Spreadcast have analytics like Metricool?

Not at Metricool's depth. Spreadcast shows basic stats for the posts it publishes. History charts, competitor tracking and report export are Metricool's job, so use Metricool for measurement and Spreadcast for designing and publishing the app posts. Metricool's free plan keeps 30 days of analytics for 1 brand.

Which is better for an app, Metricool or Spreadcast?

Spreadcast, if you ship updates regularly and post nothing because nobody has time to design the posts: it designs them, writes the captions and publishes them for you. Metricool, if you already produce posts every week and want to schedule and measure them. The two also work together, with Spreadcast publishing and Metricool measuring. The page for mobile apps walks through what Spreadcast publishes after a release.

How do I cancel my Metricool subscription?

On the Metricool website, open Plan and Billing, click the three dot menu next to your plan and select Cancel plan, as Metricool's guide to managing a plan describes. You keep the paid plan until the billing period ends, then the account moves to Free with 1 brand. Deleting the account does not stop the billing, so cancel first.
