Later vs Planoly: The Short Answer

Later and Planoly are both visual planners built around the Instagram grid, and both now schedule to eight networks from one calendar. Planoly is the cheaper of the two and puts no cap on posts: Planoly's pricing page lists Starter at $16 a month billed monthly, or $14 billed annually. Later Starter is $25 a month, or $18.75 billed yearly, on Later's pricing page, and it stops at 30 scheduled posts per profile a month.

Later earns the higher price in three places. It publishes to Snapchat, it keeps up to 2 years of analytics with hashtag and competitor data on the higher plans, and from Growth it has an inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok plus an approval workflow. Planoly answers with a storefront in your link in bio, grid placeholders, six users on its top plan and an Instagram inbox on every paid plan.

So pick Planoly if you are one person or a small team that arranges a grid by eye, posts a lot and wants to sell from the bio link. Pick Later if reports, approvals, a Facebook and TikTok inbox or Snapchat are part of the job. The table below sorts the common cases.

One note on who is writing: we make Spreadcast, which does a different job from both. It designs each post from an app's App Store listing and publishes it. It has its own section further down, and it stays out of the head to head tables. Every fact about Later and Planoly on this page comes from their own pages, opened on October 13 and 14, 2026.

Later vs Planoly Pricing: Every Plan, Monthly and Yearly

Both pricing pages open on the yearly price, so the first number you see is the lower one. On Later's page the switch reads Bill Monthly and Bill Yearly, and yearly billing takes 25 percent off. On Planoly's page it reads Pay Monthly and Pay Annually, with savings of up to 15 percent. We clicked both switches and list both prices for each plan.

Yearly totals are the yearly rate times 12. Planoly's help center calls the top plan Professional and a social set a workspace. Planoly's homepage carried two figures that did not match its pricing page when we read it: a Starter card with up to 60 uploads a month, and a Pro card billed at $444 a year, where 12 times $47 is $564. We use the pricing page and the help center, which agree with each other.

What a Social Set Is on Later and on Planoly, and What Costs Extra

Both tools sell the same unit under the same name. A social set is one profile on each supported network, grouped as one brand. On Later that means eight profiles: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat. On Planoly it is also eight: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and X, although X only gets reminders. Planoly's app and help center use the word workspace for the same thing, and each workspace holds one channel per network.

The limit that separates the two is posts. Later counts posts per profile per month, counts them when you schedule them, and counts saved drafts and Instagram Stories too. Later's post count guide says the count resets on the 1st of each month at 12:00 AM UTC. Starter gives each profile 30, Growth 180, and only Scale is unlimited. Every paid Planoly plan has unlimited posts, so the plans differ only in how many brands and people they hold.

Add ons start on the middle plan with both vendors. Later sells an extra social set for $15 a month and an extra user for $5 on Growth and Scale, or $11.25 and $3.75 on yearly billing. Planoly sells an extra set for $10 and an extra user for $5 on Growth, and for $8 and $3 on Pro, and it lists the same add on prices under both billing switches. Neither Starter plan can add a set or a seat. Planoly's paid plan guide names one more add on for Growth and Pro, a Content Marketplace subscription that opens editable Canva templates.

AI credits are a Later concept only. One hundred extra credits cost $5 a month. Later's pages disagree on who can buy them: the pricing page says extra credits are not available on Starter, while Later's credits guide offers them on current paid plans. Plans bought inside Later's iOS app cannot take any add on, according to the plan reference.

Is Later Free? Is Planoly Free? What Each Site Says Today

Both free plans still exist, and both vendors have moved them out of sight. Later's pricing page shows three paid plans, each with a 14 day trial, and no free column. The free plan lives in the help center. Later's plan guide lists Free beside Starter, Growth and Scale and describes it as a plan for creators who schedule a limited number of posts. The plan reference gives the numbers: 12 posts per profile a month, 1 social set, 1 user, no Instagram carousels or Stories, no Facebook Reels, no AI credits and no platform analytics. The visual planner and a Link in Bio page with Later branding are included, and the calendar shows only 2 weeks back and 2 weeks ahead.

Planoly's pages describe its free plan in two ways. The pricing page FAQ says the free plan is available in the Planoly mobile app and includes 10 uploads a month. Planoly's free plan guide, updated on September 4, 2026, says any account without a paid subscription is on it: 1 workspace, 1 user and 10 posts a month for each workspace. Planoly does not sell it, and it does not appear in the plan picker. You are on it before you subscribe and you return to it when a subscription ends.

The two count differently. Later allows 12 posts on each profile, so a free set with Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest connected has 36 posts a month across the three. Planoly allows 10 posts for the whole workspace, and a placeholder or a duplicated draft uses one of them. Both counters reset on the 1st of the month, UTC.

What the free plans leave out also differs. Planoly's free plan keeps grid planning, scheduling and reminders, and locks the media library, the AI caption writer, stock media, Canva, analytics, best time to post and comments. Later's free plan keeps the media library with small file limits (5 MB a photo, 25 MB a video) and locks carousels, Stories, first comments, hashtag suggestions and best time to post. For a free grid planner with more room, Later's is the larger of the two. For a paid plan without a post cap, Planoly's is the cheaper.

Stronger on networks: Later, by one real channel. It auto publishes to eight networks, Snapchat among them, where Planoly auto posts to seven and reminds you for X. Planoly is the better choice if you post full length YouTube videos or Facebook Stories. Neither covers Bluesky or Telegram.

Which Post Types Auto Publish and Which Need a Phone Reminder

A scheduler can only publish what the network's interface for outside tools accepts. For everything else both tools fall back on a push notification: your phone buzzes at the scheduled time and you finish the post in the network's own app. Later calls this notification publishing and offers it for Instagram and TikTok only. Planoly calls it a reminder and offers it on any channel.

On Planoly Stories, the current Instagram guide does not limit auto posting by account type beyond a professional account, while an older Planoly help article that is still online says Stories auto post for Business accounts only. Planoly also notes that the caption field on a Story is a note for you and is never sent to Instagram. Stronger on post types: about even. Planoly reaches Facebook Stories and takes video Pins from the phone. Later schedules a Story with several frames to publish by itself.

Instagram Grid Planner and Visual Calendar: Planoly vs Later

This is the feature both products were built on. Planoly's pricing page puts it in four words: "we invented grid planning". Later's version is the Visual Instagram Planner, called Preview in its mobile apps.

Stronger on grid planning: Planoly, for anyone who designs the feed before the photos exist. Placeholders, the Stories and Reels tabs and the Swap button are built for that. Later is stronger on timing, with best time to post for three networks, and on hashtags. One limit applies to both: a personal Instagram profile shows less in either grid, so switch to a business or creator account first. If you only need the image sizes, our social media image sizes reference lists them.

Link in Bio: Later Link in Bio vs Planoly Creator Store

The two bio pages solve different problems. Later's Link in Bio is a clickable copy of your feed that sends people to pages you already have. Planoly's Creator Store is a small shop of its own. Older guides call Planoly's tools Linkit and Sellit. Those names now survive only as tutorial categories on Planoly's support page, and the product is Creator Store.

Stronger on link in bio: it depends on what you sell. Planoly wins for creators who sell their own guides, courses or bookings and have no shop yet. Later wins for a shop that already has product pages and wants each post to lead to one. Later also says its page works for Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat profiles, and that a TikTok bio link needs a business account with more than 1,000 followers.

AI Caption Writers and Idea Generators Compared

Both tools use AI for words only. Neither designs the image. Later has a Caption Writer and an Ideas tool that draw on one pool of credits: 5 a month on Starter, 50 on Growth, 100 on Scale and none on Free. Later's credits guide charges 1 credit for a caption and 1 credit for three ideas, and the pool resets on the 1st of each month. The plan reference adds that the Caption Writer generates in English only and that Ideas is a beta feature on desktop.

Planoly has the same two tools and no credit count. The AI Caption Writer takes a short brief and an audience, returns three options, and lets you shorten, lengthen or rephrase the one you pick. You choose a voice from Basic, Professional, Witty, Casual, Bold or one you describe yourself. The Idea Generator returns three ideas at a time, each with a topic, a concept and a hook, and turns any of them into a grid placeholder. It works on the web only and allows ten regenerations in a session. Both need a paid plan, and a trial counts.

Planoly has also added a connector for outside assistants. Its AI assistant page describes linking Planoly to Claude or ChatGPT so that a chat can draft posts, schedule them and pull Instagram analytics, and it labels the feature an early alpha that is not enabled for every account. Later's pages describe no equivalent.

Stronger on AI: Planoly for volume, since five captions a month on Later Starter run out in a week of posting. Later's Caption Writer has one edge on paper: Later's AI tools page says it learns your brand's tone from your past posts.

Analytics, Inbox, Approvals and Team Features

This is where Later's higher plans pull ahead, and where Planoly's flat feature set helps a solo user. Later details come from its plan reference. Planoly details come from its analytics guide, inbox guide and team guide.

Later's own pages disagree on two Starter details. Its pricing table marks automatic hashtag suggestions and the shareable Instagram Performance Report as included on Starter, while the plan reference puts both on Growth and up. Check your own account before you rely on either. Stronger on analytics, approvals and a multi network inbox: Later, from the Growth plan. Stronger for a solo user who wants an Instagram inbox and analytics without paying for a second tier: Planoly.

UGC, Creator Campaigns and Later's Influencer Marketing Platform

Later has tools for collecting other people's content, and they are split by plan. The plan reference lists searching Instagram by profile and by hashtag on paid plans, collecting posts you are mentioned in from Growth, and a contributor link that lets outsiders submit media from Growth. Planoly covers part of this in one screen. Planoly's Discover guide describes searching Instagram posts by hashtag and looking up business accounts by username, then pulling those posts into drafts with a credit to the creator. Instagram limits hashtag searches to 30 a week in both tools.

Influencer marketing is where the two companies stop being comparable. Later Social, the scheduler on this page, is one of several Later products. Later's about page gives the history: a company named Splashscore was founded in 2014 and became Mavrck in 2015, Mavrck acquired Later in 2022, the two united under the Later name in 2024, and Later acquired the affiliate network Mavely in 2025. The same page lists four lines of business: influencer marketing, social media management, social listening and creator commerce.

For a brand, that means Later's influencer marketing platform is a separate purchase with creator discovery, rate guidance and campaign reporting, and no public price on the page. For a creator, it means the scheduler doubles as a doorway to paid work. Later's creator page describes affiliate links and brand campaigns that are free to join, and the plan reference says you can apply to brand campaigns from every Later Social plan, Free included, with a media kit on paid plans.

Planoly lists no influencer marketplace and no brand campaign network. Its answer to earning money is the Creator Store: you sell your own products to your own audience. Stronger here: Later for brands that hire creators and creators who want brand deals. Planoly for creators who would sooner sell their own work.

Pinterest Scheduling on Later and Planoly

Both vendors describe themselves as Pinterest partners. Planoly's Pinterest page uses the words official Pinterest Partner, and Later's Pin guide says it is a Pinterest Marketing Partner. The name Pin Planner, which older comparisons use for Planoly, does not appear on Planoly's current pages. Pinterest is one channel inside the same planner.

Stronger on mobile: Planoly, on these listings. Its Android app was updated the same week we checked, and Later's Android listing showed an update date nearly two years old. Later's help center also lists Snapchat and YouTube Shorts as desktop only and leaves Threads out of the Android app. If you plan from an Android phone, try both trials on that phone before you pay.

Who Owns Later and Planoly, and How Many People Use Them

Planoly's about page says it launched in 2016 as the first visual Instagram planner, and counts 8 million creators, entrepreneurs and brands among its users. Its press list on the same page names the acquisition of a product called Snipfeed. Planoly's terms of use cover the Snipfeed site as well, and name the company behind both as Planogram, LLC, based in Austin, Texas.

Later is part of a larger group. Its about page describes the merger with Mavrck and the purchase of Mavely set out above, and presents the scheduler, now called Later Social, as one product beside influencer marketing and creator commerce. Later's own Planoly comparison says over 7 million people use Later.

A caution about that last page: it is marked as last updated in April 2025, and it still states that Planoly cannot auto publish TikTok videos or post to Facebook and LinkedIn. Planoly's current help center documents auto posting to all three. Vendor comparison pages age quickly, which is why this one gives a date for everything. Neither company publishes revenue or paying customer numbers on the pages we read, so none are given here.

Is Planoly Worth It in 2026? When the Price Pays Off

Is Planoly worth it is the question people type more than any other about the tool, and the answer turns on three numbers: how often you post, whether you sell from your bio link, and whether the free plan already covers you.

Posting volume first. Planoly Starter costs $16 a month billed monthly with no post cap, so a profile that posts every day pays roughly 53 cents a post across a 30 day month, and less on yearly billing. Later Starter costs more and stops at 30 posts on each profile, Stories and drafts included. If you post daily with Stories on top, Planoly is the cheaper way to schedule all of it.

Selling is the second number. The Creator Store comes with every core plan at no extra cost, per Planoly's help center FAQ, and Planoly's pricing page describes selling services, downloads and bookings from it with zero transaction fees. A creator who sells one template a month through the bio link has already covered the plan.

The free plan is the third. Ten posts a month for the whole workspace, with grid planning and scheduling, is enough for someone who posts twice a week to Instagram only. Below that volume a paid plan buys the media library, AI captions and analytics, not more posting.

Planoly is not worth it if you need approvals or client sign off, competitor or hashtag analytics, Snapchat, or posts that publish by themselves on X, since none of those are in its documentation. It is also the wrong purchase if the real problem is that nothing gets made. A planner arranges posts you already have. For an app, Spreadcast makes them, as the section on it below explains.

The 14 day trial is the honest test. A trial counts as an active subscription in Planoly, so every paid feature works, and you can change plans during it. Connect your real accounts, schedule a week of posts and check that they publish before the first charge.

Is Planoly Safe and Legit?

Yes, Planoly is a real company with a long record. It launched in 2016, it is run by Planogram, LLC in Austin, Texas, and the section above covers its ownership and user numbers. The more useful safety questions are how it reaches your accounts and what it keeps.

Planoly connects through each network's own sign in. Planoly's guide to connecting a channel has you choose Link Account and follow the network's sign in steps, or choose a reminder only channel that never touches your account at all. You do not hand Planoly your Instagram password. To cut access later, Unlink Account turns a channel back into a reminder only one, per Planoly's workspace guide.

On data, Planoly's privacy policy says the content and engagement data it receives from linked networks is used only to provide the service and is not shared with third parties, and it links to each network's security settings so you can revoke access there. The same policy says the website uses advertising cookies and pixels, and offers a Deny choice that keeps only the necessary cookies.

The one real trap is billing. Planoly's account deletion guide warns that a subscription bought through the App Store must be cancelled in your Apple account first. If Apple cannot be reached, deletion can go through anyway, and Apple keeps charging an account that no longer exists. Deleting Planoly removes your workspaces and scheduled posts and leaves everything already published on your social accounts.

Later works the same way on the connection side. Later's Instagram scheduling guide describes connecting a business or creator profile as authorizing Later to schedule on your behalf, again without sharing a password.

What Each Tool Does Not Do, and What Changed in the Last Year

Limits and changes from each vendor's own documentation. Ratings from review sites are left out, because we cite only pages we could open and check ourselves.

  • What Later Does Not Do

No X since August 2025, and Later's platform list names Bluesky, Mastodon and Google business listings among the services it does not support. No Facebook Stories or groups, no long YouTube videos, no LinkedIn PDF posts. Starter has one user and no way to add a second brand. The post count includes drafts and Stories, so 30 goes faster than it sounds.

  • What Planoly Does Not Do

No auto posting to X, and no Snapchat. The inbox and the automations cover Instagram only. There is no approval workflow, no competitor benchmarking and no hashtag analytics in the help center. Deleting a post or a media entry is permanent with no trash folder, and Planoly's cancellation guide says a subscription cannot be paused.

  • How Later Changed

Later removed X on August 28, 2025. Plans started before July 1, 2025 are now legacy plans, the old Advanced tier is gone, and Scale replaced it. Social Inbox replaced the older Conversations tool. The pricing page marks Reels audio, best time to post for Facebook and TikTok, and Meta Ads analytics as new, and Later's Google Play listing showed November 8, 2024 as its last update.

  • How Planoly Changed

Planoly merged its separate Instagram planner and multi channel planner into one Social Planner, which is why some accounts have two workspaces. Its help center was rewritten between August and October 2026. The Instagram inbox and comment automations are rolling out, Facebook and LinkedIn analytics are in beta, and Hashtag Manager is now Keywords & Captions.

  • Where the Sites Contradict Themselves

Planoly's homepage showed a 60 upload cap on Starter and a $444 yearly price for Pro, and its pricing page shows neither. Planoly's page for X talks about auto posting to X, and its help center says X is reminder only. Later's pricing table and plan reference disagree on two Starter features. We followed the help centers in each case, because they carry dates and the marketing pages do not.

Who Each Tool Suits: Creators, Small Shops, Managers and Agencies

  • Choose Later If

You manage social accounts for a living and someone else reads your reports. Later Growth at $50 a month gives you approvals, outside review links, an inbox for three networks and a year of analytics. Choose it too if Snapchat is on your list, if you want best time to post on TikTok and Facebook, or if you are a creator who wants to apply for brand campaigns from the same account.

  • Choose Planoly If

You are a creator or a small team and the grid is your shop window. Planoly Starter at $16 a month has no post cap, placeholders for the posts you have not shot yet, an Instagram inbox and a storefront behind your bio link. Choose it too if you run five or six brands and Later Scale at $110 a month is more reporting than your clients ask for.

  • Creators

Planoly, unless brand deals are the plan. Daily posting with Stories passes 30 posts a month quickly, and Later counts Stories. A creator who earns from affiliate links and sponsored posts gets more from Later's campaign network.

  • Small Shops

A shop with its own site should lean to Later for the clickable feed, where each post carries up to 5 links to product pages. A maker with no site yet can open a Creator Store on Planoly and sell from the first week. Both tag Instagram Shop products: Planoly on every paid plan, Later from Growth.

  • Social Media Managers

Later, from Growth. The approval workflow and review links that expire after 7 days are built for clients who are not in the tool. Planoly's Plan Report shows a client the plan but takes no sign off.

  • Agencies

Count seats and reports. Six people on six brands cost $55 a month on Planoly Pro and $120 on Later Scale with two added users ($110 plus 2 times $5). If competitor benchmarking and custom analytics are in your contracts, Later Scale is the plan that has them.

A Third Option If You Have an App: Spreadcast

Later and Planoly have one thing in common that no plan changes. You make each post, and then you arrange it. The grid, the calendar and the placeholders all wait for a photo, a video or a design from you. For a creator or a shop, that is the right order, because the content is the business.

An app team is in a different spot. The news is already written down in public: a new version with release notes, a fresh 5 star review, a rating milestone. What is missing is the hour to turn it into a post. Spreadcast does that step. You paste your App Store link once at the start page, and it checks the public listing every day. When something happens, Spreadcast designs a 1080 by 1350 post from your icon, screenshots and colors, writes a caption for each network and publishes it to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video posts, after one tap of approval or on full autopilot.

The free plan comes first: it drafts every post for 1 app, ready to download, with a small Spreadcast mark. Pro is $29 a month flat, with design, captions and publishing to 8 networks included. Of those eight, Later and Planoly each reach six, with no Bluesky and no Telegram. On price, Pro is $4 more than Later Starter billed monthly ($29 minus $25) and $13 more than Planoly Starter ($29 minus $16). The $25 and the $16 buy a planner for posts you make yourself. The $29 includes the posts.

For several apps the sum changes. Spreadcast Studio is $79 a month for 5 apps and 3 seats, and each app keeps its own brand. Five brands on Later cost $95 a month on Growth with three extra sets ($50 plus 3 times $15), which is $16 more than Studio. Planoly Pro at $55 is $24 less than Studio, for six empty calendars and six seats.

Here is what Spreadcast is and is not. It has no grid planner and no link in bio page. It makes still image posts, so it does not schedule Reels, Stories or TikTok videos. It has no inbox and it does not post to X. It reads App Store listings, and Google Play is next on the list and not available yet. Stay with Later or Planoly if you are a creator, run a shop, plan a grid by eye or post video. Many app teams will want both kinds of tool: a planner for founder photos and clips, and Spreadcast for the update, review and milestone posts that would otherwise never get made. The guide on how to promote an app on Instagram covers the rest of that plan, and the Instagram post generator and Pinterest Pin generator pages show how the posts are built.

What One Brand or One App Costs a Month

Monthly billing, as of October 2026. The last column is the part a price list does not show.

Spreadcast Pro$29 flat, with design, captions and publishing included11: Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram and Discord, plus YouTube for video postsSpreadcast designs it, writes a caption for each network and publishes it for you

Later vs Planoly vs Buffer, Plann, Metricool and Tailwind

The other names that show up in the same search, each in a few lines. All of them schedule posts you have already made. Prices are from each vendor's pricing page in October 2026.

  • Buffer

Buffer's pricing page has the most useful free plan here: 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Paid, it charges $6 a channel billed monthly, so three channels cost $18 (3 times $6) against $16 for a full Planoly set and $25 for a Later set. Buffer also posts to X and Bluesky. It has a grid preview and a simple link page, and less of a visual planning workflow. See our Buffer comparison, the best Buffer alternatives and Buffer vs Hootsuite.

  • Plann

Plann is the third grid first planner, and people often search it against Planoly. Plann's pricing page lists a plan for 1 brand and 1 user from $12.50 a month paid annually, a plan for 2 brands and 2 users at $25, and a free plan that schedules to Instagram only. It leans on ready made strategy and caption content. Compare it if a guided content plan matters more to you than a storefront.

  • Metricool

Metricool's pricing page charges by brand: a free plan with 1 brand and 20 scheduled posts a month, then Starter from $25 a month billed monthly for up to 5 brands. Five brands cost $55 on Planoly Pro and $95 on Later Growth with extra sets, so Metricool is the cheapest of the three for several brands, with reports as its main strength. Our Metricool comparison has the detail.

  • Tailwind for Pinterest

As of October 2026 Tailwind's pricing page sells Pinterest plans only, priced for each Pinterest account: Pin scheduling at $29.99 a month, or $17.99 a month billed annually. It goes deeper on Pinterest than either planner here and does nothing for Instagram.

Planoly vs Meta Business Suite and Planoly vs Preview

Two more matchups people search against Planoly: Meta's own free tool, and Preview, another phone first grid planner. Facts come from Meta's guide to Business Suite, Preview's pricing page and Planoly's pages cited above, read on October 17, 2026.

How to Use Planoly for Instagram, Step by Step

How does Planoly work in practice? This is the path from a new account to a scheduled Instagram post, from Planoly's first post guide and its grid and mobile app guides as they read on October 17, 2026.

  1. Step 1

    Link Your Instagram Account

Every network in a new workspace starts as a reminder only channel. Open Account, then Manage workspaces, select the Instagram bubble and choose Link Account to allow auto posting. Instagram needs a professional account for that. Leave it as reminder only if you would rather finish each post in the Instagram app.

  2. Step 2

    Create the Post

Open the Calendar and select Create Post, then Click to add your channels. Linked channels sit under My Linked Channels and reminder only ones under More Channels. Add your media and write the caption. Each channel has its own tab if you want a different caption there.

  3. Step 3

Choose Auto Post or Reminder for Each Channel

Does Planoly post for you? Yes, on channels set to Auto post. Planoly's posting guide lists Instagram posts, Reels and Stories among them. A Reminder sends a push notification and an email at the scheduled time to every active member of the workspace, and you publish by hand. X is always a reminder.

  4. Step 4

    Pick the Time and Schedule

Select Pick a time, then Schedule all for one time on every channel or Customize per channel for separate times. Schedule at least 10 minutes ahead so Planoly has time to prepare the post. A gold issues button in the footer lists anything still missing.

  5. Step 5

    Arrange the Grid

Switch to the Instagram grid view. Planoly's grid guide explains that undated drafts and placeholders can be dragged into any order, while dated and scheduled posts sit by their date, so you move those by changing the date. Select two undated drafts to swap them. Deleting a post is permanent.

  6. Step 6

    Work From Your Phone

In the mobile app the + button creates a post, a placeholder or a media upload, and the Posts tab switches between Grid, List and Card views. Planoly's mobile app guide notes that a plan bought through Apple is managed in your App Store account, and one bought on the web stays managed on Planoly's site.

How to Switch From Later to Planoly

Run the two side by side for a couple of weeks. Both have a 14 day trial, and nothing moves across by itself.

  1. Step 1

    Start the Planoly Trial First

Open a Planoly trial while your Later plan is still running, so no scheduled post is lost in the gap. A trial counts as a paid plan in Planoly, so every feature is open while you test.

  2. Step 2

    Download Your Media From Later

Later's download guide gives two routes. On desktop you save one file at a time at medium resolution. In the iOS app you can select many files and save them at full resolution. The Android app saves one at a time. If you still have the originals, use those.

  3. Step 3

    Export What Will Not Move

Scheduled posts, saved captions and analytics stay in Later. Export Instagram analytics as a CSV file while the paid plan is active, export the email addresses your Link in Bio page collected, and copy saved captions by hand into Planoly's Keywords & Captions.

  4. Step 4

    Connect Your Channels in Planoly

Instagram needs a professional account. Planoly's Instagram guide explains that signing in at Instagram is enough to publish, and that tags, music and analytics need the extra link through a Facebook Page. Add X as a reminder channel if you want it. Snapchat has no place in Planoly, so keep posting there by hand.

  5. Step 5

    Rebuild the Bio Link

Set up a Creator Store page, add your links and any products, then change the link on your Instagram and TikTok profiles on the day you switch. Later's linked posts do not transfer.

  6. Step 6

Cancel Later Where You Signed Up

On desktop, go to Settings, then Subscription, then Cancel Plan. A plan bought in the iOS app is cancelled there. Later's cancellation guide says the plan runs to the end of the billing cycle, then the account drops to the free plan, posts above the free allowance do not publish, and analytics beyond the free level go at once.

How to Switch From Planoly to Later

The move in this direction is mostly about limits. Check them before you pay.

  1. Step 1

    Count Your Posts per Profile

Later Starter allows 30 scheduled posts on each profile a month, and Stories and drafts count. If your busiest profile passes 30, you need Growth at $50 a month, and the saving you expected may be gone.

  2. Step 2

List What Later Will Not Publish

X reminders, Facebook Stories and full length YouTube videos all end with Planoly. Decide whether you post those by hand or keep another tool for them.

  3. Step 3

Start a Later Trial and Connect One Social Set

Connect a business or creator Instagram profile so Auto Publish and analytics work, then turn on best time to post and let it collect data for a few days before you judge it.

  4. Step 4

    Move Your Media by Hand

We found no guide to exporting a media library in bulk in Planoly's help center, so work from your original files or from Canva, Dropbox or Google Drive, which both tools can import from.

  5. Step 5

Decide What Happens to Your Creator Store

Later's Link in Bio page describes links to your own shop and no checkout of its own, so products, customers and memberships have nowhere to go in Later. Planoly's store guide says cancelling Planoly ends your access to the store and does not delete it. If the store earns money, keep the Planoly plan for it and use Later for scheduling, or move the products to another shop first.

  6. Step 6

    Cancel Planoly

Go to Account, then Billing, then Cancel Plan. The plan runs to the end of the paid period and the account then drops to the free plan with 1 workspace and 10 posts a month. Planoly says nothing is deleted. A plan bought through the iOS app is cancelled in your Apple subscription settings.

How We Compared Later and Planoly

Everything here was read on the two vendors' own sites on October 13 and 14, 2026: both pricing pages with each billing switch clicked, both plan comparison tables, about 40 articles in Planoly's help center and about 20 in Later's, and the product pages for link in bio, AI and influencer marketing. Later's help center refuses automated requests, so those articles were opened in a browser and read there. Store ratings and update dates come from the United States App Store and Google Play listings on October 14.

We did not run paid accounts on either tool for this page, so nothing here is a hands on speed or reliability test. Statements about what a feature does are the vendor's own description of it. Where a vendor's pages disagree, we say so and name both pages.

Three things could not be verified and are left out: ratings from review sites, which we could not load and check; how many paying customers either company has; and the price of Later's influencer marketing platform, which is not public. Prices and limits change often with both vendors. Check the pricing pages linked above before you buy, and read the Later comparison and the Later alternatives roundup for the wider field.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Later or Planoly better?

Planoly is better for one person or a small team that plans a grid, posts often and wants to sell from the bio link: it starts at $16 a month with no post cap. Later is better for social media managers who need longer analytics, approvals and an inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, which start on Growth at $50 a month. If you have an app and no posts to plan, Spreadcast designs and publishes them for you.

Is Planoly free?

Yes, in a limited way. Planoly's free plan guide gives an account without a subscription 1 workspace, 1 user and 10 posts a month, with grid planning and scheduling but without the media library, AI or analytics. The pricing page describes the free plan as part of the mobile app. Every paid plan has a 14 day free trial.

Is Later free?

Later has a free plan that its pricing page does not show. Later's plan guide still lists it, and the plan reference sets it at 12 posts per profile a month with no carousels, Stories, AI credits or analytics. The three paid plans each come with a 14 day trial.

Is Planoly cheaper than Later?

Yes, at every tier. Billed monthly, Planoly costs $16, $28 and $55 a month against Later's $25, $50 and $110. Billed yearly, Planoly is $14, $24 and $47 a month and Later is $18.75, $37.50 and $82.50. Later's higher plans include analytics history, approvals and a multi network inbox that Planoly does not list.

Is Planoly worth it?

For a creator who posts most days and cares how the grid looks, yes: $16 a month buys unlimited posts, placeholders, an Instagram inbox and a storefront. It is a weaker fit if you need approvals, hashtag or competitor analytics, Snapchat or true auto posting to X. Use the 14 day trial to check auto posting on your own accounts.

Can Later or Planoly post to X (Twitter)?

Later cannot: its help center says support for X ended on August 28, 2025. Planoly keeps X as a reminder only channel, which means it notifies you at the scheduled time and you publish the post yourself. Spreadcast does not post to X either.

Later vs Buffer vs Planoly: which should I pick?

Pick Buffer for the best free plan and for X or Bluesky: 3 channels free, then $6 a channel billed monthly. Pick Planoly for grid planning and selling from the bio link at $16 a month. Pick Later for reporting, approvals and Snapchat. Our Buffer comparison has more on the first.

Why is Planoly not auto posting?

Planoly's help center gives three common causes: the channel connection expired, the channel is set to reminder, or a file broke one of the network's rules. Planoly's posting guide explains the two methods. X never auto posts, and Instagram needs a business or creator account.

Prices, plans and features change. This comparison describes each product as its own site described it on the date shown under Sources. Check the vendor's site before you decide. Product names are trademarks of their owners.
